Hey Joe wish you a great time in Taiwan. Next time you should travel with a companion and it would be more fun to enjoy the Taiwan food together 😉You have taken a lot of time to introduce all the Taiwanese food in details ! Yes all the food you eat like pepper buns, guo bao, scallion pancake, beef noodle soup, shen jian bao and soup dumplings are all very common food that Taiwan people eat pretty often. If you still in Taiwan, I would recommend you to try different styles of hot pot in Taiwan since it is almost winter time now and its actually a hot pot season in Taiwan now. There are many different styles of soup base of hot pot with your own choice of adding different meat and vegetable ingredients to the soup base. Commons one there is the Mala style ( spicy) hot pot , Pickled Cabbage Pork meat slice hot Pot ( soup is sour flavour like hot and sour soup), Shabu Shabu or Sukiyai ( Japanese style hot pot), Chinese herbs soup base hot pot, White Pepper Sour cabbage soup based hot pot, Mutton ( lamb meat) hot pot with Chinese herb soup base, and Ginger Duck hot pot ( Traditional Taiwan style). In terms of sauce you gotta try the Shacha Sauce ( it is the very common hot pot sauce in Taiwan) and mix with soy sauce and you can add garlic or Chinese onions into the sauce. Enjoy !
Enjoyed this video, didn't realize there is such a banging Gua Bao down in Wanhua near the snake alley, that will be getting scranned this weekend. I've subscribed, glad you liked Taiwan, and good to eventually see other Brits realize Taiwan exists and is a mega destination, gets overlooked (rightly for some people I guess) by it's more famous neigbours, Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong, plus nearly all of South East Asia. You really did a good job of giving an overview of the cuisine here.
Awesome video Joe. Every time I see one of your videos pop up my urge to quit my job and travel again starts to get stronger. Taiwan is high up there on the list for me!
You are so much more articulate, knowledgeable about food, and have much better eating etiquette than Mark W! I will be exploring your other videos tonight. I appreciate you, and wish you much sucesss with your food blogging!
This is such a simple , well thought out and informative video . I saw about 20 but this one was so grounded and none of the influencer high pitched voice . Just a dude who loves good food and appreciates them and seems very knowledgeable. Good work !!
Hi Joe! I enjoyed your video very much, it is fun to see tourist experiencing food that are very familiar to us taiwanese people. I would like to point out that the number 10 is not wheelcake or 車輪餅 as you think. Wheelcake is a smaller round snack originated from Japan. However, the snack you're eating at huayin street is called 麥仔煎(Mai Zai Jian), 麵粉煎(Mian Fen Jian) or 免煎嗲(Mian Jian Die), etc. Based on which part of Taiwan they're from, taiwanese people have tons of name for this snack, lol. According to my research, I guess, the closest translation I can find will be "Turnover Pancake", which is also a kind of snack that can be found in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia. Hope that helps😊
I had the cracked pepper bun last night. There was a small line of people at 5pm. By the time i left an hour later the line had tripled lol very popular
It‘s awesome when you were eating the cranberry-pineapple cake, you said it doesnt matter what it is but “when it’s so good, just eat it”. 😂。Yup, that‘s Taiwanese food for you. It’s so good, just eat it and enjoy it! Hope you had a good trip in Taiwan
If you try that pepper bun for the first time, well, quite spicy. All the foods were Taiwanese street foods. Different than the Western-style snacks. Glad you like them, but U should try more formal eateries for another kind of yummy food. 🤭😋
Although they are all things I have eaten before, when I saw your video, I felt like buying them. Especially the flavor of Custard Sauce, which I have never tried before. I want to try it, although the taste is still imaginable❤ And the food you picked is all representative of Taiwanese food, which is great!
Scallions, spring onions, green onions, shallots: the American version is good; the British too; I’d avoid calling those “shallots” as they sometimes do in Australia.
I can easily expand your list to at least 100 must try Taiwanese food. Boba, breakfast rice ball (Taiwan breakfast another category all to itself), cold noodle, stinky tofu, pork blood rice cake, hot pot, Taiwanese sasusage, oil rice,…etc
you'd be surprised that the beef soup is the one with 5 spice, while the herbal soup doesnt. herbal soup likely has 十全 ("ten complete" literally) spices though.
So, Yuan Fang Guabao having checked on Google Maps, some reviewers state it offers other fillings. However, I don’t see there. Does this place sell a chicken version?
Do you know of any Chicken Pepper Buns sold in Taiwan? As I understand historically / culturally, Chinese dishes have an affinity with Pork. However, for those who are visiting this amazing country, if it caters for the above query. As I’ve Google high and low if anybody does sell a chicken version of the pepper bun. I’m visiting soon, hence my question.
You are really a food master!👍 only one thing I can suggest the Soup Dumpling need Explore in your mouth not in the 🥄 spoon. The taste is totally different.
thank you!! I absolutely love it, I cannot wait to come back
Love Taiwanese food😊
Me too!!
Very impressed you sampled all this variety in Taiwan!
The food was too good to miss :)

That would make sense wouldn’t it

Watching your video makes me homesick🥲🥲🥲(And hungry as well)
I am really admire your appreciation for such authentic Taiwanese food. Now I know how to cook Pork Liver to make it tender and tasty.

It was my first ever trip to Taiwan and first time eating Taiwanese food 😂😅

Wow, thks for sharing the delicious meals + snacks 👌

Very nice introduction of the food hmmmm yummy 👍🤤🤤🤤
you went to the most famous places in taipei. The dumpling place is the BEST in Taipei. Cheap too

it is good, right? Yeah, the smart move is to get there early and beat the crowds
Not a lot of foreigners like the 藥燉排骨 . I am glad you like it. I think the sweetness is from Crystal Sugar.

oh it is really delicious! Love things like that
Great video. Made me miss home too.
You got the spirit of the beef noodles, well done! 👍
Thank you 😋 I can’t wait to come back and eat more
Great introduction. I,m missing home
I think u are doing really good job on introducing the foods. Feels like u are the local 😂

Where’s Taiwanese omelet?! And mango slushy?? And big sausage wrap little sausage 😋
29:00 reminds me of that place down the street from my hotel FU HONG BEEF NOODLES its open 24 hours a day

lol they always grant you exclusive access behind the kitchen.
Scallions, spring onions, green onions, shallots: the American version is good; the British too; I’d avoid calling those “shallots” as they sometimes do in Australia.

That skin of green dumpling is made by
spinach😊,not seaweed.

Traditional Taiwan’s food are more delicious. You should try them.
I’ll be coming back in early 2025 to try more!!
Joe☺

The kidney ginger soup is much better than the liver soup.
