At the beauty store they recommended me a 10% glycolic acid toner for clearer and more blemish free skin, although I told them I have never used a toner or exfoliant before. The first time I used it it stung like hell for a few seconds. Only then I researched it and discovered that it is usually not recommended for sensitive skins or skins that are not experienced with exfoliating acids. I am still using it (max 2 times a week, occasionally stepping down to 1 time) in the PM with a moisturizer afterwards. My skin can tolerate it better now and it has made my skin softer and clearer, but I still have to use it with a lot of caution.

Sir, I have sensitive oily, blemish prone skin and glycolic acid has made my skin so beautiful and healthy. Even my dermatologist says I should keep doing what I’m doing. She said I’ve caught on more than most people have if I’m using it.
I have a lot of black heads due to oiliness, and it helps break that stuff down. I’ve been using it for over a year. I use the ordinary glycolic toner(5%) at night once or twice a week. and the key is to use moisturizer immediately after washing it off the next morning.

@@itsruckaswife7036 :) Slugging is a K-beauty TREND of generously applying a petroleum-based product, vaseline as the final step in your routine, to help lock and seal in your skincare products overnight, and then washing it off with a cleanser the next day. It’s good to remember it’s not a moisturizer or moisturizing, and not really the best for oily skin. You are locking in any issues your skin has.
Really Slugging is not a permanent solution but works better for those with short-term skin dryness or damage. The only Glycolic I’ve been able to tolerate is Good Molecules Glycolic Toner - that stuff is awesome! It’s the lowest % of Glycolic I’ve seen in any product - at 3.5%. Beautylish lists the exact ingredients & %’s. Pixi, TO, PC & especially Alpha glycolics wrecked my skin, leaving it burning & red & raw. Not the Good Molecules one. It stings very slightly for a second or 2, but results are great! I never use it more than 2 or 3X a week. Lactic or SA is nowhere near as effective!

Our skin changes as we age so products need to be changed out and in too! I have been doing acid peels for about 10 years now. They really help with my milia that I get around my mouth and down my chin but as I age the milia have become more abundant. I do TCA peels in the winter starting in late October (unless we’re having a hot/sunny spell and then I wait for that to be over). In between my TCA peel (which does have downtime) I will use a STRONG lactic acid peel (slight redness after but fine the next day). In total I try to do 4-5 TCA peels a season. Sometimes life gets in the way and I’ll only get 2-3. My milia gets much worse so I push my lactic acid peel into June and try to get a once a month lactic acid peel during the summer. If I do I really conquer my milia and the Ordinary toner every other day is super helpful. Since someone recommended using the toner on my body I’ve started doing that. Again I’m usually using every other day. No dryness or irritation. It does seem to help my ingrown hairs on my legs.
I’ve started to get more milia around my eyes and I think it was you that recommended the inky list eye cream with retinol. I just started using it so I’ll keep you posted. I’m also using it where I have milia around my mouth/chin. Aging is a challenge but good skincare can make a HUGE difference!

I understood the first time I used it, it is not meant for everyday use. You want to gently slough off the very top layer of the skin. Too frequent, the healthy skin get damaged and thin, causing that sensitivity to sunlight. I only use it once or twice a month and then allow the skin to heal and push the top layer to the surface, and then repeat. People have to remember it is an acid, and acid is meant to eat away at something or can cook it. Glycolic acid usually falls between 3-4 on the PH scale. Too high or low PH can seriously damage the skin, so try to slow or minimize it's use.

The Ordinary's Mandelic acid is wonderful, also the Wishtrend Mandelic 5% skin prep water and the Allies of Skin Mandelic Acid Pigmentation Corrector. I hope more people give it a chance and see if their skin improves over sticking to glycolic acid.

My skin doesn't like mandelic acid, it feels odd after a peel, amost lax when exposed to it, and not in a good way. With salicylic, glycolic and lactic it clears up and improves. They can easily be overdone. I did high strength peels 10 years ago, did for years. It was often a salicylic/lactic blend or a glycolic/lacitc blend. Mandelic was newly introduced to the skin care marked then. I remember the esthetician insisted the peels should only give a milder redness that went a way within in a few hours. I used it first once a month and then gradually built up to once a week. For any postive result it is important that the skin always is on top of the healing and regeneration process, the goal is for it to always be happy and comfortable. It isn't always easy, the skin can react to lots of changes in the environment around us. It is interesting watching your videos. Years a go they always said glycolic and lactic peels helped with hydration and salicylic could be more drying. We do get a lot of conflicting info in general regarding skin care. This video was a reminder to always revise the stuff I use, more than I tend to do. I tend to follow the advice about keeping skin care relatively simple and not too many changes or actives at once.

Actually quite shocked when you said that you were using such high concentrations of glycolic acid I have trusted a lot of what you say and it comes as a great surprise to me that you would treat your skin so violently! My best experiences of glycolic acid was actually Pixi’s Glow Toner which is 5% and leaves my skin glowing and beautiful! But I took your advice and bought Face Theory’s Glycoseal solution and I cannot handle- it I have tried several times and every time I run to the sink and wash my face because it just burns and that’s only 8.5% so I do not know how on earth you handled the percentages you were using! But I’m veryImpressed with the fact that you have turned around and said that you think you were wrong and that there are other acids out there that are gentler and better for our skin. Bravo! 👍🏻🙌💎

It’s done an awesome job on some really stubborn blackheads, but I need to ease off, which I have and I I over did it with twice a day. I think maybe very lightly one a day or 2-3 week, like someone else commented. I went crazy on the folds of my nose and got a little irritation, but like you said nothing terrible. You do have to balance the dryness. Such a big bottle too.

My favorite facial exfoliation products are the Overnight Exfoliating Treatment serum from Good Molecules. It's a blend of Glycolic, Lactic and Salicylic acids. I also like the Good Molecules Glycolic Acid Liquid at 3.5%. Good Molecules uses much lower percentages of Glycolic Acid and they work best for my face. The blends of AHAs work best for me too I think. Paula's Choice has excellent AHA and BHA facial and body exfoliation products but they are more expensive so I buy most of them only on sale except for the 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid. It's a holy grail for me. I have found Cos De Baha also has a good 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid I've used too.
But I do find the higher percentage Glycolic Acid products like the 7% toner from The Ordinary works great on my feet, knees and elbows followed by a heavy foot cream or moisturizer occasionally at night. Glycolic is great on my body for KP bumps/chicken skin, etc. too. Salicylic Acid is also great for ingrown hairs and shaving rash. I also use some higher percentage Glycolic lotions and BHA body washes from Alpha and Paula's Choice on my body followed by moisturizer at night once a week or as needed. I don't use any Glycolic Acid product every day. I don't need to use chemical exfoliation every day. That's too often for me. I want to try Geek and Gorgeous but Good Molecules is something I can pick up at Ulta or Ulta at Target in store. They are both only 2 miles away. Paula's Choice is available in store at Sephora 2 blocks away. I don't mind ordering online if it's easy to qualify for free shipping when I order. Geek and Gorgeous has such a high threshold for free shipping with their affordable prices. You have to buy alot every time you order. That's the only reason I haven't yet tried Geek and Gorgeous. I can also get Cos De Baha, Paula's Choice and Alpha with free shipping from Amazon. I hate paying for shipping, especially when the shipping costs are higher.
I don't understand why anyone would get upset about you changing your mind about an ingredient or a product. Our skin changes and the products that work best for us changes too over time. It's just a fact of life that most people come to understand when they use skin care products long enough. It would be ridiculous for anyone to act like it's not ok to change your mind about an ingredient or a product. We all can become sensitive to anything at anytime. Anyone that doesn't think it's ok to change your mind about what skincare works best for you, simply doesn't have a good understanding of these facts in my opinion. Sending you lots of love and light 💕

I used glycolic (20%) for many, many years and absolutely loved the results on my skin. I worked up slowly to 20%, by first starting with 5%, then 10%, followed by 15% until I was ready to use 20%. The results on my skin were amazing! No hyperpigmentation, blackheads, acne etc. . . . just glowing, youthful skin. Unfortunately, the product was discontinued and I have been unable to find a comparable glycolic acid product to replace it. My skin went downhill after that and has never been the same since. This concerns me as I don't want to risk damaging the Meibomian glands as these contain your tear film. I have pretty tolerant skin which handles Glycolic pretty well, I only use it about once per week on my face and it does it's job. Pixi has a lower strength version at 5% but I really don't like it, it's more expensive than the ordinary for less product at lower strength and the fragrance is pretty strong.
Glycolic is great for rough skin on the feet which is where I use it the most. I find with the high strength retinols and shaving, I really don't need to exfoliate that much. My face can already look a bit highlighted due to the tretinoin. Have a nice day Rob.

Hi Rob my sensitive skin has never liked glycolic acid, unless it's in a very low percentage tbh. The ordinary toner was not something I enjoyed using. Prior to starting retinoids I used and liked the lactic acid from the ordinary, used every 2nd night. I was also able to tolerate the 30% peel for around 5 mins once a week at that time. I now use retinoids and azelaic acid, so I rarely use an AHA - I get a lot of cell turnover from the other ingredients and don't need it. Once a week I use a BHA in the t zone and an AHA (usually mandelic acid or PHA) on the perimeter of the face, missing out both the retinoid and AA that day. I find this helps with any congestion caused by all the rich creams I use for my very dry skin. I also use urea in my skincare, which has an exfoliating effect. There is only so much exfoliation my skin will tolerate, but I have sensitive, rosacea and eczema prone skin. Each of us through trial and error can find the level of exfoliation our own skin needs/wants. I use a lot less than other people may do, but sensitive skin has to be treated gently. Slowly and carefully works best for my skin. If my skin isn't happy then I miss out some ingredients until it settles down again. Paying attention to what it's trying to tell me is vitally important in preventing a rosacea flare for me. I don't find any of the AHA's or BHA's especially hydrating, but the glycolic is definitely the most drying for me. Best wishes.
