    Hey guys and welcome to todays video which is dedicated to my favourite exfoliating acid - Lactic Acid. I would love to know what your experience has been with lactic acid so please leave me a comment below.. Sending you so so much love xxxxx

      Great video as always! I would love to try TO's lactic acid but was wondering how it compares to their glycolic acid in regards to mature skin? I use the latter once a week along with Paula's Choice 2% BHA on a different night. Not sure if lactic is affective for someone in their early 50s 🤔 xx

    I have loved using lactic acid for many years. However, as my skin matured, I seemed to need more exfoliation because my natural skin's exfoliation was slowing down dramatically. This showed up as texture, especially on my forehead. I switched to an acid blend (Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment- lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acids.) Since my skin is so used to using acids, I can use this product almost every night. The texture disappeared, and I feel like I have more control of it. But, I did try glycolic acid when I was younger, and it was much too strong, and the lactic acid was a winner for me!❤️❤️

      happy Sunday Patti - I hope you and the family are having a wonderful weekend... I know what you mean about needing to dial up the strength as I have been doing that recently and I think acid blends are a wonderful option.. I regret using just glycolic acid and wish there was more choice when I started exfoliating... Thank you so much for sharing and sending you lots of love xxxxx

      @@jillianmaloney3544 kinda like how I feel. But I like my Glycolic acid toner and I think it’s done a lot for me. But I’ve stopped using it on daily basis now and maybe every other day instead. But I’ll definitely get me one of The Ordinary’s lactic acid and maybe a the mandelic acid too. I’m also more and more curious about the PHA.

    Age: 20s (Twenty Six)
    Skin Type: Combination
    Skin Sensitivity: Resilient
    I adore lactic acid for both my face and body. It’s so much better than glycolic acid for my skin in terms on brightening, depigmentating, hydrating & softening/smoothing the texture. I also get no irritation or sensitivity from it.
    My go-to product for my face is The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid 10%- right now I use it once/twice per week. Since it has a larger molecule size than GA I also use the TO’s lactic acid 5% once/twice a week to get my LA fix more often.
    My go-to product for my body is AmLactin’s 12% Daily lotion. It softened my skin and helped evened out my sun damage so much; even my outer arms match the inside of my arms more than before! I also can get away just using a mild/intimate spray deodorant on my armpits now because I also apply the lotion under my arms.

    I’m not sure why but I literally just started using latic acid in my routine a few days ago. I bought TO latic acid and, bc it was on sale, Sephora’s Clear Skin line has a latic acid/licorice root toner (it was like $6 or something). I’m literally kicking myself in the butt bc man oh man my skin LOVES it! I’ve not even opened TO one yet but for such a cheap price I’m SUPER excited at just how much clearer and softer my skin looks in only 3 days just from using Sephora’s toner. plus the 1 cystic and 2 smaller bumps I had have shrunk over 75% in less than 24 hrs. I’m in love! Great video Rob and hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! ❤️

    Well your skin looks absolutely flawless! I'm a big fan of lactic acid as my skin tolerates it so well, unlike glycolic. I only do a chemical exfoliation 1x per week now, and it helps with texture and brightness. I'm finding that the simpler I keep it, the less likely any irritation.

  • @zy510
    @zy510 3 года назад +1

    My experience with glycolic acid is that it did brighten my skin but it made my dry skin drier----which is ironic because I was told that it helps with dry skin! I stopped acids altogether because I began using tretinoin and now my skin is accustomed to tret so I'm looking to start using chemical exfoliants again. I'm seriously considering lactic acid because I prefer something gentler since I'm already using strong actives. Last thing I want is a bad reaction!

    Recently repurchased the lactic acid - it's still very nice! I also use glycolic in moderation. But if I could only have one type, it would be 2% BHA. Both anti-aging and anti- acne.

    • @rosemary5005
      @rosemary5005 3 года назад +1

      That’s how I feel too. I owe a lot to salicylic acid when it comes to my skin and how it looks now. I was very insecure about my skin in my teen years - most of the anti acne treatments were full of bensoylperoxide and it was all about drying out the skin. The Proactiv+ (the one with more salicylic acid ala Proactiv 2.0) was my savior. First of all, I learned about having a skincare routine and secondly I “got to know” salicylic acid. So I now knew what I was looking for in a product. I can’t imagine that at 35+ I had the skin better than if ever even dared to dream of. And I think most of that is thanks to salicylic acid.
      Now I’ve started using retinol and alpha arbutin etc. But BHA is what saved me. 🌸💗🦋

    I've been using The Ordinary 10% Lactic Acid for about a week and I'm not sure if I experienced purging or a break out but my skin freaked out! I have dry skin and I get congested pores but I don't break out or get pimples almost ever. I was using it for fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and dull skin but WOW....I had pimples EVERYWHERE and my chin was covered in white heads. A week later it has calmed down and I'm still trying to get my skin back to normal. Again, not sure if it's the lactic acid, but my skin never did this before trying it.

    I started using lactic acid this year and not only noticed an improvement in my skin but when i wasn’t using it i could tell right away, it’s now a firm part of my routine. Glycolic and salicylic still have their place for me, especially glycolic with peels as it’s literally vanished my eczema that i lived with for 30+ years.

    Hi Rob prior to my rosacea worsening and also prior to retinoids, I used the 10% lactic acid from TO with really good results. However once I incorporated retinoids, I found lactic acid was too strong for me and instead use a 5% mandelic acid now. I get plenty of cell turnover from my retinoid and azelaic acid, on my rosacea and eczema prone skin on a daily basis. Once a week I use the mandelic acid on the perimeter of the face and a BHA on the t zone - this helps keep my pores clear, as I use a lot of rich textures on my very dry skin. I think it's a good AHA and will work for a lot of people, but like everything it's not for everyone. I do however like it on the body and use Ammeliorate FF lotion once or twice a week under a richer body cream. Best wishes.

    Years ago, my Derm suggested I use Amlactin lotion. It's been so long, I forget what my problem was. But I've continued to use this lotion, year after year on my body. It contains 12% lactic acid which is not too strong for my body skin. Recently, Dr Dray said it could be used on the face. I tried it on my face with no adverse effects. But I have to say, I've been using Sunday Riley Good Genes for a long time so I've conditioned my face skin to tolerate the 12% strength. I used to use 25% glycolic once a week but find now, it is too strong and damages my moisture barrier. I will stick with Good Genes on my face and Amlactin on my body.

    I have a love-hate relationship with any AHAs. They sting my skin for the first few minutes after application. They don't cause any breakouts (except Glycolic Acid), but the stinging sensation is uncomfortable. Weirdly, my skin can handle a 0.05% Tretinoin and a 0.1% Adapalene without any irritation at all. My skin also doesn't experience any stinging sensation using a 2% Salicylic Acid product. I'm currently using a combination of 10% Lactic Acid and Tretinoin to combat my stubborn hyperpigmentation and for acne maintenance. I haven't seen any results yet from using Lactic Acid, as i've only used it for a while.

    What about using Lactic along with Vit. C? I tried doing it for a while & was tolerating OK, until suddenly I developed severe irritation, so I won’t be doing that again!

    Glycolic acid stings my face and mandelic acid didn’t seem to do much. Dr V recommends 5% lactic acid for skin of colour but I could only find the 10% in the ordinary brand. I’m hooked!! I wonder how I would find the 5% after getting used this though. twice week is enough for me because I also use 2% BHA most mornings for acne.

    I get confused about how to use everything... so like retinol, should that be every day? but then how/when do I used acids like lactic, or BHA? And what about serums? 😭 so confusing! Only sunscreen I understand - during the day and every day! 😂

    Hi. Great video. Thanks. Your vid is a couple of years old but I'm new to Lactic acid. I've been using AmLactin at 12%. I was using it twice a day on my arms as I had very "thin" skin as a result of 20 years in the Navy with hardly a day at sea with my arms covered (much sun damage). I found it took only the slightest scratch to break the skin and cause profuse capilliary bleeding, and haematoma that took weeks to go away.. I did some research and Lactic acid appears to help build skin layers by exfoliation. I have found that after 3 months, my skin does not react as badly as I described, but it is noticibly reddened. I only use it on my forearms. Would you recommend dropping back to perhaps once a week? I haven't tried it anywhere else, but after watching your vid, I might try on my face that I have been told only my Mother could love!! Ha ha ha..thanks again.

    I tried lactic acid 10% 2 years ago for a few weeks and then stopped, because I didn't notice any difference (I finished it on my body, treating KP).
    Now I am using the mandelic acid 10% (also from TO) for about 2 months and I love it. 0,5 retinol 5 times a week and mandelic acid 2 times a week and my skin is glowing and not irritated. I have combination skin and it can be sensitive sometimes.

    My skin is dry, and lactic acid feels like the most hydrating of all the exfoliants I've used. I've only used the Ordinary one and I never needed to look anywhere else.
    I do feel like Salycilic acid (and Glycolic) gives a bit better exfoliation effect, but lactic acid makes my skin really glowy and doesn't strip it.

    Thanks Rob! 🌸💦🌸💦 I started out with less strong than even lactic but worked my way up slowly. TO 10% is a great budget staple for me now,,due to your channel actually! I’m ok using a very weak glycolic in something like toner combined with other things but generally stay away from bc I burned my face with it ☹️ (didn’t know much about it or swatch it which is my fault!)

    Wait wait hold on. When you say your skin is "glowing to the Gods", what exactly do you mean? Is it that weird-ass "dewy" look people are so fond of these days for some reason?
    I guess I'm not sure I'm convinced with this whole gentle exfoliation thing hahah. I do my 20% glycolic peel once every weekend and then I don't have to worry about it for an entire week - if I used something weaker, I'd have to waste time and money for the same results. Seems kind of inconvenient, especially if you're like me and dislike doing your skincare in general and it just adds one more step...
