      The shallowness of his description of Kim Jong Un would rule him out as a CIA agent. That said, the CIA would probably be interested in what he learnt during his trip. Even if they didn't contact him directly, I'd wager that his electronic communications would be monitored to collect any information he might tell friends/family about his experiences.

      marya_ If you think Kim Jong Un is straight up mental, you should brush up on your history of American/Korean relations. The way he is running his country is, in fact, very logical. Check Noam Chomsky on this topic, for example. John Oliver also did a good piece on this. It's no good burning the diplomatic bridge here! Most countries in the world scoff at human rights, on a sidenote... Are they all loons? Not at all - being a "living god" at the helm of a nation is just as much a figment of human imagination as "human rights". Where you were reared is all that makes the difference in which fiction you prefer.
      I believe Rodman when he quotes Jong Un as saying: "I don't want a war". We should focus on that. He's not crazy, but he's hanging onto his power by a thread. So he's being ruthless, and international smack talk is part of the routine. Let's not forget, in the 50's we bombed the Koreans literally back to the stone age. And revelled in it on the 5 o'clock news. We might have forgotten; they have not.

  • @zodek11
    @zodek11 7 лет назад +535

    I think Dennis is actually doing the correct thing here, the only reason he is close to Kim is because he is one of the few american people who isn't gonna try to "convince" him or talk about all the human rights and stuff like that, pretty sure if that were the case they wouldnt be close. Is better to establish "bonds" with this crazy man rather that no having any bond at all, because maybe somehow he will actually have some empathy for america if he has american "friends".

    • @ladynoluck
      @ladynoluck 7 лет назад +19

      Daryl Davis, a black musician here in the US, does the same thing with KKK members (200 have left the KKK because of him), but he does question their beliefs directly. There's no correction of beliefs with Dennis, and who knows? Maybe friendship will be enough. Or maybe friendship is only enough to spare Dennis, not the entire US...

    • @rojay1214
      @rojay1214 7 лет назад +17

      Once he changes into a diplomatic role he risks losing any trust or friendship he has. It's better having a normal human that's able to speak with Kim about how we all aren't trying to kill them-as most North Koreans believe.

    • @kailianglf2
      @kailianglf2 7 лет назад +1

      @LNL13 there is a distinction between Rodman in NK and a black musician on KKK turf. Rodman's life, along with chances of peaceful resolution is potentially forfeit with one false step. the black musician probably isn't in any real danger of getting hosed, hounded, hung or shot.

    • @michaelcaplin8969
      @michaelcaplin8969 3 года назад +2

      He wasn't dragged into it, and he was never innocent. He had blood on his hands even as a small child, having his carers and nannies killed for not entertaining him enough. Kenji Fujimoto once dared to try and help Kim Jong-Un with a kite when Kim was a child, while the terrified nannies were crying and begging him to not go over to him, because they knew that if Kenji didn't get the kite to fly well, Kim wouldn't let him live. Luckily, the kite flew, and they remained friends to this day. But others weren't so lucky, especially those who appeared frightened in his presence. Other than that, I agree. It is a family business, and it's not easy to change it, even for the dictator. He would lose his power and luxury lifestyle in three weeks if he let go of his tight control of the population.

      That's the thing. North Korea usually tricks outsiders by only showing them the capital Pyongyang which is the wealthiest city in the country. Pyongyang's residents are mostly consisted of party officials and their family living way better thant the average condition of North Koreans. Some foreigners seeing this are misled to thinking "Hey, this isn't so bad after all. Maybe western media were portraying it the wrong way." However, where you get out of Pyongyang and go to countryside, you will probably meet a medieval time capsule.

    So beautiful that someone like Rodman ends up in this position. Sports and entertainment create bridges where there were none. Ppl Pre-judge others based on hearsay and politics. Like Ali said about Vietnam, “they never called me nigga”.

    This is the first time I've been disappointed in Stephen Colbert. He was patronising, dismissive and missed a great opportunity. Communication is how we change the world, regardless of who we're talking too.

      I feel getting the Nobel Peace Prize for fucking 14 year old girls, basking in the sun in luxury mansions and partying with one of the worst dictators of all time and his harem of little girls isn't really what the price is for...

    Every time I see pictures of them together I can't wrap my head around how bizarre that relationship is... and I'm sure Dennis knows Kim is a lunatic but he knows the Koreans see all his public appearances and Dennis doesn't want to ruin their relationship so he doesn't talk him down

    Wow, how insightful! I bet the family of Otto Warmbier,(*you know! the college student who was accused of stealing poster at a hotel in North Korea, convicted within the week by a bias judge, sent to prison and stayed there without any contact from the outside world for 2 years until he was suddenly released, but in a traumatic coma that lead to his death shortly after arriving back to the US*) would LOVE to hear from this guy about Kim Jong-un who is just misunderstood and the North Korean regime has never committed any horrible acts of inhumane punishments towards prisoners. I bet that would go over splendidly.

    I had a colleague who regularly interacted with the Chicago Bulls... club manager in Chicago.... during the 90s. He said that Jordan and Pippen would walk in first... Jordan, cigar in hand with a brief wave before proceeding onto the VIP room - Pippen head down, not trying to catch anyones eye.... and then Rodman would walk in. He would give props to 8-9 people in the bar, buy everyone a drink, and have conversations with my colleague and people at the bar, aaking abput their lives and what they did for work etc. My colleague, a guy I trust, always swore by Rodman, saying that he had a heart of gold and would literally talk to anybody around him like a normal human being. He said that he just went a bit crazy from the partying and stuff
