  • Former NBA basketball star Dennis Rodman is on a mission. After forging an unlikely friendship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, he wants to improve relations between North Korea and the US by staging a historic basketball game between the two countries. But the North Korean team isn’t the only opposition he’ll face...Condemned by the NBA and The Whitehouse, and hounded every step of the way by the press, can Dennis keep it together and make the game happen? Or will it all go up in a mushroom cloud of smoke?

      Seems like he is so unhinged that it would of just thrown him into an even worse drunken rampage and put them at more risk. Its disgusting to watch this knowing how much it could have helped relationships begin to forge. The team was great and the politeness both countries players showed each other seemed genuine... Rodman brought the game together, and then hammered a wedge between the good it could have done, and left a sour taste for the north koreans that had to deal with his drunk arse the whole time. They must have been just floored that a human can be so out of control. I have watched a lot of NK documentaries and while many of them drink, they all remain in control... probably for fear of punishment, but in control of their actions nonetheless. This whole thing was a huge lost opportunity. Glad the players and crowd got something out of it at least. While I despise the NK regime, kim jong un is the better of the dictators at least. He went to school in europe for a bit, so he has seen how people can live free and well. He is still power obsessed and dangerous, but maybe now that they finally have their nukes and so called guaranteed security, kim jong un can begin to loosen the reigns of terror. on his people.. I hope so for their sake.

      @DETSRC313 Год назад +2

      That would be stating the obvious, the fact Rodman finds friendship with a dictator in DPRK is a sign he's been judged his whole life and one person who we'd assume would be judgemental or worse actually wasn't what expectations perceived. Instead he allowed this friendly birthday/international friendship gesture. Which tells me their common ground is being judged by their peers more then the rest of us may realize.

    • @JD-gk7eh
      @JD-gk7eh 9 месяцев назад

      @@DETSRC313 I recommend the 30 for 30 on Dennis Rodman. It's excellent. It's not that he's been judged his whole life. Quite the contrary. He lacked good role models and father figures in his youth and really struggles to make human connections. When he was with the Pistons, he formed a huge bond with his coach Chuck Daly, to the point where he considered quitting the league when Chuck moved on (I also believe he came close to suicide, but that may have been over something else I'm confusing it with--I do know he sat in a car with a loaded shotgun thinking of doing it, that's in the 30 for 30). He is not well formed emotionally, at all, and he has spent a lot of time around fake people who use him--and he knows that. There's a moment in that 30 for 30 where a party Dennis threw is described and someone says "Dennis, you know these people are just here to party and use you right?" And he says "Do you really think I'm so stupid I don't know these people aren't actually my friends?" Sad. He accepts those who will put up with him. I'm very sure that Kim Jong-un is extremely charming and extremely charismatic, way more than anyone Rodman has ever met in his life; Rodman certainly falls for all that and thinks its way more genuine than it is.

      Here's the problem. North Korea sees itself as a dominating country. They are above everybody else. It's all about North Korea. The reason why they need to be excluded is because every time something happens they threaten the United States, and expect us to give them something for it. In other words they're trying to hold us hostage with their threats.
      I don't blame the United States for taking a extremely tough stance on them. But nobody wants to talk about the Royal Court economy that the North Korean country has. There are two economies, the legitimate one and the illegitimate/ illegal one. The illegal one since North Koreans globally around the world working under shell companies for the benefit of the country. Nobody wants to talk about the drugs that are being made in the country in exported out. They are into everything. That's how they're surviving outside the sanctions.

      The people of NK don’t hate the US, but the government and leader proxies are trained to hate USA. They try to get the people on board with this, but they have tightened borders to contain defectors. Many NK people are aware of their situation and are dreaming of living in South Korea or other places with better quality of life. Rodman makes the US look undisciplined even though he is a talented player. They don’t respect behavior like this, but it shows that the democracies are extremely tolerant of self expression. "Everything is so perfect, everything is so 5 or 6 stars over there".... yeah... he doesn't realize that he's in the presence of their god and everyone else gets garbage. Dennis doesn't get it that this guy has every grain of rice that is served to him inspected individually and anyone who says one bad thing about the guy gets executed. This is what they got for leaving a drunk attention needy guy in charge of something that big. At the end, the North Koreans probably told their people that the best US team in the world got whooped by them. Meanwhile, those were a bunch of retired players who don't really practice anymore.

    The only way to move forward is cultural exchange, aye I'm all for it if we all want to get along together especially around basketball. If it worked with China, its gotta work with North Korea. Same with Vietnam too, how did we move forward from that and yet we're holding no grudge against them anymore, idk the world, politics, and media twisting what we view and see, we need to always stay human.

    not going to lie, seeing both teams enjoy themselves its kinda wholesome. i know the nk players prolly are facing death if they do bad or something but they really do look like they are enjoying it. its important to humanize the people of north korea, we are told they are ignorant crazy people ect but they are just humans like us and its no different than calling native americans savages. . dennis knew this and thats what he was trying to get out the whole trip. even though he seems to be nieve to what the state there does, he knows what it means to be misunderstood. and compared to the kim family, he prolly seems even tame to the citizens.
