Defendant ran up to them. He tells the cops he looked like a guy (like he didn't know what was going on). Said he didn't have a knife & that it was one of the kids knife- not "omg, they pulled a knife on me and attacked me & I stabbed some in self defense" the instant he saw the cops, or tell his friends he was attacked. Pretended not to know anyone was stabbed, and didn't seem concerned one bit when he was told one of the kids died. He threw the knife away. Just kept floating down the river like nothing happened. If that happened to me, I'd be finding my friends asap to tell them what happened, and if they didn't have a phone, I wouldn't leisurely float down the river. If they brought those charges against him, he'd be guilty. Instead they brought "intentional homicide", which is pretty clear to not be the case. There's no way the jury is going to see him as hunting these kids down with the intent to murder someone.
Also, there's a reason there's a minimum drinking age. Alcohol is an amplifier of the immaturity, impulsivity and hubris that basically makes a teenager what they are. People rarely grow out of these things by 21, but they generally have a better handle on it. The more I watch this trial, the more it is obvious to me, these kids were attacking this man like a pack of wolves and he simply defended himself the only way he knew how. This man should be acquitted on all charges! The tape shows the truth.
Ironically, had the kid not recorded this, it would have been the man’s word against this entire group. And he would have easily been convicted. The tape may end up clearing him…

almost everyone has missed something very important but i didnt miss it. in the first 10 seconds of the video, nicolai runs over to a guy sitting on a tube. nicolai reaches his hands into the crotch area of guy sitting on the tube. and then nicolai grabs the leg of a guy sitting on the tube and yanks him hard off the tube. nicolai was the instigator and original bully in the incident. not self defense. nicolai was the aggressor from the start. hes way guilty!

I find this trial a sad state of affairs. First Miu should have never engaged with drunken high teenagers. He should have left. The witnesses all changed their stories after the event. Some of the testimony seems fabricated by prosecution witnesses. Miu was an adult he got himself in a mess then stabbed his way out. He is guilty of manslaughter.
