Su-Metal's so-called death stare is actually the burning gaze of Alexander the Great, which seems to peer into your very soul. Queen Su has a couple other things in common with the mighty Macedonian conqueror. First, there is her self-avowed desire to conquer the world, albeit in her case through music. Then there is the story about a much earlier performance at Saitama Super Arena in 2008. Back then Su was the youngest member of a pop/idol trio called Keren Girl's. Having never played such a large venue before. the two older girls were naturally a bit nervous about it. Su on the other hand was so confident that she decided to take a nap before the show, and slept so soundly someone had to go wake her. The first time I read this story it actually gave me a chill because there is an eerily similar story told about Alexander before the Battle of Gaugamela. It was then that I realized what is so special about Su-Metal. She possesses that intangible something that is the spark of greatness. That might help to explain how such a young girl can exert so total command over her vast legions of fans.

I’ve been privileged to see Babymetal live in concert seven times and it’s an experience every time. They’re amazing. If you like the way they interact with the audience in this one, you should definitely watch the Road of Resistance live in Japan video. It’s the finale song for most of their shows and it’s huge. Listen for the “we are...... Babymetal” call and response at the end and the “see youuuu” as they leave the stage.

  • @MacTaipan
    @MacTaipan 4 года назад +17

Glad you came back to them and liked it! Pausing is perfectly fine, I‘d actually recommend to pause a bit more often to be on the safe side. I also think it‘s preferable to pause for your comments than talk over the video.
As you have probably realized by now, this was not in 1997. The show is called „Legend 1997“, because that was Su-metal‘s (the main singer) birth year. The show took place one day after her 16th birthday in 2013.
Even after years of listening to them, I‘m still impressed by the perfection in pretty much all aspects of their performances. The instrumental parts, the vocals, the choreography and dancing, the crowd interaction, the stage presence, the energy - there‘s really not much room for improvement. And the girls‘ smiles and overall positivity are the icing on the cake. It‘s just a complete package of fun.
I‘m torn between two recommendations to give, so I‘ll just write down both:
    - „Rondo of Nightmare“ for a deeper look into both the instrumental and Su’s vocal skills: ruclips.net/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/видео.html
    - „Pa Pa Ya“ for a newer song with similarly great live energy: ruclips.net/video/oO7Y8NsnkRg/видео.html

GREAT REACTION! The girls and band go HARD on EVERY song, minus the 1 or 2 ballads that they usually perform, and their concerts are about 1.5 hours long. Su-metal, the lead singer, can jump around and dance choreography without messing up a single note. BTW, this concert celebrates Su-metal's 16th birthday back in 2013. The concert is called "Legend 1997" where 1997 is the year she was born. I hope you two react to more BABYMETAL songs. Each song is different and fun to watch.

  • @outwest1014
    @outwest1014 4 года назад +52

This is from the Legend of 1997 concert, the legend is Su-Metal and 1997 is her birth year. The song is about a 15yo girl going to her first metal concert, not about Su as when they recorded and made the official MV Su was 14 and Yui and Moa were 12. Su has one of the greatest and scariest Death Stares. Keep in mind they go at this pace pretty much an entire concert.

  • @road-runner
    @road-runner 4 года назад +14

    Great reaction, thanks!
The concert was "Legend 1997 SU-METAL seitan sai" so it was SU-METAL (the lead singer) 16th birthday celebration at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba on December 21st, 2013.
And you are absolutely right: they keep the same level of energy during the whole concert, so it's amazing! As you can see they master on crowd control and audience's behavior is mostly the result of Yui and Moa's (backing vocals and dance) work while Su owns the stage and the whole venue. She's the boss and she makes sure you notice it :)
The crowd is another great point here: they were super hyped for all what they were getting so they totally deserved what they got a little later as a closing number hehe...
We will back to that later... in the mean time I'd like to suggest you this one: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
    Until next time!

You want to see just how good the band is (called the Kami band).. watch Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of Gods Intro. They are some of the finest musicans in Japan. And yes SU-METAL has a legendary death stare. As for the audience - I have stood in the pit and jumped, screamed, swung my towel and sung my heart out. Their fans as insanely passionate and enthusiastic - yet also seriously the nicest and kindest fans I ever met. I can tell you BABYMETAL ALWAYS give 100% when they perform - they never coast, never have an off night, never just turn up. They work hard from the first to the last second to give the very best performance they can.

Great reaction, we know exactly how you FEEL, which btw is a core BABYMETAL philosophy: "Don't think. FEEL."
Queen Su-metal is famous galaxy wide for her death stare. Conversely, offstage she's been described as bookish, goofy, & kinda nerdy (obviously a disguise).
    Subscribed! More BABYMETAL please!!

Great reaction. This has been a setlist staple for so long for good reason. It was this video and the official music video for "Karate" that got me completely hooked in the first place. Gimme Chocolate made me say "oh that was fun" and not think much else about it. This song though, and especially this performance of it, you can't look at this and think they aren't serious about the metal part. I've never really been much of a concert goer at all, but just watching this video was enough for me to say "I have to go to a Babymetal show ASAP"

Nice video! The best thing about babymetal performances are the insane crowd interaction that some people say "cult-like" HAHAHAHA. The energy of the band and the crowd altogether creates a perfect concert.
Headbanger is a song about a girl going on her first ever metal concert 15th birthday. The other two girls had their own solo in the second verse in their birthdays too. Yui performed the second verse of this on her 15th birthday in their performance in Paris. Moa performed this on her 15th and 20th birthday. Imo, this song is one of the best tracks from their first album along with Megistune and Road of Resistance (all are great though, it's hard to choose top 3).
Their songs sound different from each other. If there is a similar sounding song, it would just be a two or three songs because they're exploring and breaking boundaries of music! You won't expect how they perfectly mix different genres in one song.
As you have mentioned, the band who played here are the legit band backing babymetal. They are the Kami Band. Kami is the Japanese term for Gods or Spirits. The members who played here are Mikio Fujioka (R.I.P) (the guitarist at the left side of the screen), Leda Cygnus (the guitarist at the right side of the screen), BOH (the bald 6 string bassist), and Hideki Aoyama (the monster drummer).
Since that it seems like you love the crowd interaction, I guess you would love to see how amazing the production in their performance is. I suggest you to react to their song "BabyMetal Death" Live Legend 1997. When you react to this video, please read the description as it contains the translation for the beginning speech introduction. This is from the same concert as this and Gimme Choco. This was from Su's (the lead singer) 16th birthday. This was performed in 2013, it was just uploaded later.
Catch you at the foxhole! Kitsunes up!

I was glancing through your videos and noticed you had only covered Gimme Chocolate before this one. They have so much more to give - fellow reactors tend to see Gimme Chocolate first, which puts off some and they never react again - so I'm extremely glad you have covered Headbanger. As Muso's I heartily recommend checking out 'Rondo of Nightmare, including the 'Mischief of Gods' intro by the Kami Band which greatly showcases their talents as musicians. Rondo of Nightmare follows, which is a solo number for Su while Yui and Moa take a well earned rest - other Su Metal solos you should cover are - 'Amore' , 'Akatsuki' and 'No Rain no Rainbow'. Other songs I thoroughly recommend are 'Syncopation' ,'The One' - there are so many more but for now maybe a couple of songs from the latest album - if 'Papaya' doesn't make you happy, I don't know what will, and maybe 'Shanti Shanti Shanti' which has a wonderful Indian touch to it. Great reaction as always - hope to see some more Babymetal soon!

Think this was pretty much on or after Su-metal's birthday.
Think there's either a clip or after one of the live versions from this concert where they bring out a cake for her.
I'm not sure what songs you've already reacted to but here is some of my personal favorites as a fellow South African: Pretty much all of them are the live show or live compilation versions
    - Megitsune
    - Yava + Kami band Solo
    - Headbanger @ Budokan Black Night 2014
    - Catch me if you can
    - Rondo of Nightmare live @ Budokan Black Night (it's not in the title but it includes the Mischiefs of Metal Gods intro)
    - Pa Pa Ya Ft. F.Hero
    - Road of Resistance Live is also very good
    - not a full song; but Moa-metal took over the solo for Headbanger for her birthday in 2019

There is a whole universe of Babymetal music/performances that will continually "blow your mind"! As someone else mentioned in the comments, Su just turned 16 years old here and Yui and Moa were only 14 years old during this performance! What you have repeatedly pointed out with Su's stare is Su's amazing stage presence. You need to check out Babymetal "Road of Resistance, Live in Japan" where the drummer (Hideki) was a monster and the level of stage presence and confidence by the three girls is unmatched. Talk about the ability to control a huge crowd (>37,000), Su is the master (and she was only 17 yr old then)! MORE BABYMETAL !!

Ok, so first off welcome back to BABYMETAL! Second, you've seen them with live video but the studio track over it ("Gimme Chocolate") with a fake band, now you've seen completely live with their band, called the Kami Band, indoors. You should definitely check out an outdoor festival performance, as well as a couple of their music videos. Here's a couple suggestions:
    Outdoor Festivals:
"Ijime, Dame, Zettai" Live at Sonisphere 2014 - This is the holy grail of their performances. Why? It was their first large festival show outside of Asia and it is what introduced them to the world. I won't go into details until you get to the video, but it was huge!
"Karate" Live at Download 2016 - I personally think you should see the music video first, but I can't deny how good a performance this was.
"Distortion" Live at Download 2018 - This is an excellent song and performance, but it is rough for some fans because it is in the middle of their "year of hell" as some call it. They had lost one of their guitarists, Mikio Fujioka, when he died tragically after falling from an observation tower while stargazing. Also, this was they year that Yui wasn't there due to health issues, which would eventually lead to her leaving the band altogether.
    Music Videos:
"Karate" - This is a great song and the video is a piece of art with a great message.
"Megitsune" - First, it is pronounced "May-git-soo-nay". This is also a great song, often ranking #1 on fan polls for their favorite song by BABYMETAL
""Doki Doki Morning" - You have to have their first song ever somewhere on the list! I would recommend you see this AFTER you watch a video like "Pa Pa Ya" or "BxMxC" to see the contrast at how young they were when they started. Speaking of...
"BxMxC" - This is just "BMC" with the x's acting as placeholders. The music video is their newest one that dropped back in October to kick off their 10th anniversary celebration. It was a surprise to everyone when it came out! It's so good, and once again shows the diversity in their music catalogue and the abilities of Su (Su-Metal, the lead singer).

Mr. O's Classes : Hi! How have you been ? I am still buying food from the shop run by Mikio's family. BTW, as you know BABYMETAL is going to hold 6 concerts next week and in February. Although Band Maid cancelled their concert (for their first time at Budokan), Wagakki Band did on January 3 & 4 and other concerts have still been held including yesterday (Jan. 15) in Budokan. Hence as long as no emergency occurs, the 1st concert on Jan.19 will take place as scheduled and so will 2nd one on the following day. I could manage to get 4 tickets for the shows including 1st & 2nd. I am excited.

@@flugelhornoldman1362 I have been excellent! How about yourself? I won't lie, I am a little upset they are pushing on with the shows, especially with the heavy restrictions I've heard about for them. Is Su seriously going to raise her microphone for the "ki-e-ro" part of Headbanger to silence?! Obviously, I'm coming from an American standpoint where that type of restriction seems very far-fetched, so I don't know if it is considered reasonable over there or not.
I'm very happy for you that you were able to get tickets, though! I cannot wait to be able to see shows again. My goals are to see them play near me and then to see them in Japan.
I have been meaning to contact Mikio's family again. I still never received a reply, but the holidays over here were very busy and I'm a teacher (if my name didn't give it away), so finding the time and thinking about it during said time are difficult to match up. I really do need to, I still want to donate to them.
Glad things are going well for you, my friend. BTW, I am potentially starting a Channel here with a coworker soon, and of course I will be showing her BABYMETAL while she shows me BTS since I've never listened to them. Should be fun if/when we get going on it!

@@mr.osclasses5054 I understand your concern. But according to the recent analysis, events at the big venues have never been epicenters or creating clusters of infection here in Japan. So many concerts and martial arts events (boxing & MMA) have been taking place while all of such events were shut down in the previous emergency called in April last year. The government guideline is very strict and Amuse's requirements to the audiences are stricter. We, the audiences, should be careful not to spoil the events and to protect ourselves and more importantly protect the band. And don't worry. I explained Charles's thoughtfulness to Mikio's family and I received a reply from Mikio's widow with her gratitude.

@@flugelhornoldman1362 I was in class when I saw this. I almost stopped class to read it, hahaha! This is awesome. How was it to be there? I saw a video of the ending and it was heartbreaking to not hear the crowd shouting "BABYMETAL!" with Moa after Su did the "We are..." part. I'm glad people complied (I'm sure there were a few outliers who maybe didn't) with the rules and I hope everyone stayed safe.
The inclusion of "Starlight" on setlist now 100% confirms that it is a Mikio tribute since they made sure to have it in there on his birthday. Speaking of, did they say anything or have a video for him at all before, during, or at the end of the show? Lastly, were the Kami's wearing the masks we all dislike, or were they in their normal outfits and face paint?

Please read the description/translation that usually comes with the video... It will make more sense as you watch the video.....i have the bluray of this concert...And it's a blast....If you watch it from beginning to end, its basically telling the story through the music, how Babymetal goes from a Jpop/metal group to a full on metal band..... and yes the real band comes in mid way through the show, incidently playing with Black Babymetal, the cutest hardcore duo you will ever see.

For those wanting to know a bit of a backstory on Mikio Fujioka. Mikio Fujioka was an amazing artist & musician. My thoughts go out to Babymetal, Mr. Mikio Fujioka & his family.
Mr. Fujioka was a guitar prodigy from an early age. He graduated from the prestigious musician’s Institute of Osaka. At 19 he won the GIT Masters 2000.
Fujioka later went on to lecture at a music College. Before joining Babymetal in 2003. Fujioka also authored many textbooks on guitar.
Shorty after Mikio's death Yui left due to a continuing illness. So things back in 2018 weren't great really. But they came back even stronger than before.
Su-Metal at this point really has come into her own. Not many female Japanese bands have ever made it this far. So pretty amazing they're celebrating their 10th anniversary this year!! :b

Legend 1997 Apocalypse is a concert celebrating Su-Metal aka Suzuka Nakamoto 16th Birthday 🎉(Seitansai) which took place in Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture.
    Headbanger (Babymetal song)
"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" (ヘドバンギャー!!, Hedobangyā!!) is a single by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. Released in Japan on July 4, 2012 in promotion for the album Sakura Gakuin 2012 Nendo: My Generation, the single serves as the third single from the debut album Babymetal. It is also the band's first solo audio release to be released commercially.
    Single: Babymetal
Album: Babymetal and Sakura Gakuin 2012 Nendo: My Generation
    Language: Japanese
    Released: July 4, 2012
    Genre: Power metal
    Length: 14:44
    Label: Juonbu
    Songwriter: Edometal, Nakametal, Narasaki
    Producer: Kobametal
    Narametal: (arrangement)
    Babymetal singles chronology:-
"Babymetal / Kiba of Akiba": (2012)
    "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!": (2012)
    "Ijime, Dame, Zettai": (2013)
    Background and release:-
Unlike previous tracks released by the band, which had her vocal recorded in segments within the songs, Nakamoto had her lines recorded in a single take several times. She had been told to sing and find a story within the music. By the time she had comprehended the story behind the lyrics, she grew capable of singing the entire song naturally. When Mizuno and Kikuchi listened to her shouting "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" for the first time, they felt as if they had seen another cool side of her, surprised by the vocal power. Additionally, the single introduced the members to the whispering style of singing, with the A-side's "Kiero!" (Disappear!) and the B-side's "Uki Uki Midnight". Kobametal was inspired to use it to contrast traditional death growls.
"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" was announced as a single on April 27, 2012, with a release date set for July 7, 2012. The single was released in two versions: a standard edition, available via CD and digital formats, and a physical limited Hedo-ban ("Head edition"), which contains a CD and a "neck corset" (actually a cervical collar) for headbanging training.[5] Both editions of the single feature the songs "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" and "Uki Uki ★ Midnight" (ウ・キ・ウ・キ★ミッドナイト, "Exhilarating Midnight"), along with instrumental versions (labeled as "Air Vocal ver."). The standard version contains an enhanced CD with a bonus music video of "Babymetal Death", which can only be played on a computer. The artwork of the standard edition depicts a lyric in the song, specifically when the girl is headbanging with the corset, with the crimson-colored moon in the background, as well as the band name appearing at the top. The limited edition artwork depicts a temple scripture of the "Corset of Legend" with the song title spelled out in the middle.
Before the physical international release of the song, its title was written ambiguously as either "Head Bangya!!" or "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!", the latter of which is officially used in the international re-release of Babymetal and all future releases. The music video uploaded to the band's RUclips channel initially had the former name, though it was switched to the latter in 2015; the version uploaded by Toy's Factory consistently retained the official title.
    S
    Tekina Remix:-
During the live performances Legend "D" Su-metal Seitansai at Akasaka Blitz on December 20, 2012, and Legend "1997" Su-metal Seitansai at Makuhari Messe on December 21, 2012, a remix titled "Night of 15 mix." was performed, containing more elements of electronic music. The former took place on Suzuka Nakamoto's actual fifteenth birthday, while the latter was the opening song for the concert. Remixed by DJ'Tekina//Something, the song was later released as part of Social Reform promotional editions of the single "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", and later appeared on DJ'Tekina//Something's remix album Kawa-EDM (2016), re-subtitled as "Tekina Remix".

Off hand, the only other singer I can recall that used a mic' with a half-stand was Freddie Mercury - fitting company.

5:04 - That is Su Metal's Death Stare. She uses it to entice in new souls. Try their song, Catch Me If You Can, the best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek, live at Budokan with a solo from each of the four band members to open the song and then amazing choreo and vocals in a heavyAF song - ruclips.net/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/видео.html

Su-Metal hits somewhere in my soul. Her singing. Her presence. The contrast with her, Yui, and Moa creates such a perfect unit. Add in the incredible Kami band and they crush you EVERY. TIME.

Shanti Shanti Shanti would be an awesome one for you guys to react to.. it's one of their more recent tracks with a new member.. they fused their style with an Indian flare and it's incredible

1997 I not when the concert was performed but the year Su-Metal was born. Her birthday is 12/20/1997. She just celebrated her 23rd birthday

I mentioned this in another reaction video for the same song: That's one thing about Su-metal: in addition to being able to sing extremely well, she has that "I'm so cute" look that can instantly turn into "I will cut your fucking heart out with a rusty knife" look - the definition of "Kawaii metal". But now, since you've entered the foxhole, I suggest going back to their very first official video "Doki Doki Morning". After that, there is just a crapload of songs you really should react to by them. Their latest and greatest is "BxMxC". In short: you ain't seen nothin' yet! SEE YOU!!!
