How fucking cool is Rob for giving these young musicians a moment to remember. Awesome to see the impact Judas Preist has made around the world young and old
One of the fortunate things of following Babymetal's story is to see how many legends of metal are open minded and wholesome towards them even when they were a small, controversial act, some even picked fights for them like DragonForce, Metallica and Rob Zombie, in a way showing they didn't lose track of their roots and look forward for those making something new and fresh like they once did Not just Rob but other big time bands and names as well, like Korn, Lady Gaga and more have come to support them and their act as something for the next generation of metalheads to enjoy, it's a warming sense of community I mean, Slipknot has called them this year as one of the headliners in the LATAM Knotfest Tour for at least three countries, they've been friends since their earliest days in the West just like Rob here
That may be the most legitimate smile I’ve ever seen on Su’s face. You could tell just how much fun she was having and that she understood how fucking massive this moment was to be singing onstage with a legend like Halford.
She was basically fangirling the whole way through it. She knew how big a deal being on stage with Rob Halford is and enjoyed the occasion, like she should have. That's what music is all about. Creating special memories like that and you can be sure that'll stick with the girl for the rest of her life.
I think you may be reading into things a bit too much. I agree she does look like she is having a great time, but, more likely reasons for that is that she is allowed freedom to sing the piece as she wants it to, along with not having to perform dance choreography. She walks around left and right on the stage whimsically. Gets to improvise too. The songs are less extreme and more rythmic groove types which she may also like more than the material she is required to perform in Babymetal. It's often fun to get to perform with someone else and interact on stage; doesn't matter so much who it is. Regarding Lob Halfold, I find it unlikely she is easily impressed or admiring of others in the same genre. She may not even be really into metal personally. BUT, Lob seems like a friendly easy going gentleman, who would be easy to respect and like working with, and that, I think, she does appreciate about being on stage with him. Compared to what she normally has to do, this is like a laid back, improvised-ish jam with friends where you get to do whatever you think is more fun. Fun times. Too much fun to care about how dead boring the audience is.
Mikko Granlund, reading your words and having listened to Su Metal in an interview past, where she expressed her dream of writing her OWN songs and music, rings true. What does that tell about Su Metall!!!!? that she can not create with creativity bubbling in her! That IS the problem of the music industry, make a Faustian deal and you can kiss your soul goodbye, artist become mere puppets on a string for "fistful of glamour", and that has devastating effects on their well being! I believe we've all seen it times and again!! I've observed a few songs of her latest performances and her demeanor has drastically changed as rather dramatically serious, Moa would led out a genuine smile with the occasional eye contact with someone in the audience! You summed it pretty much up with your comment and I can only agree! My sincere wish for these girls is, that they will be able to break loose and pursue who they truly are, as YUI in her statement already expressed, she wants to go as Mizuno YUI! The long time away gives a distance to the attachments and one begins to see things a bit more sober in the accompanying self reflection. It is a time when you get a sense of your own self again, and I can only commend YUI for that! If she really would have wanted to continue there would have been plenty of physical care provided just like for people who do sports, and the *show* would go on! My thinking therefore is, she had a profound realization and I'm glad she's going for it!
I think most of that audience must of been experiencing Babymetal for the first time. There are those that immediately love it, those that immediately hate it (I'd argue a fair percentage of these folks are eventually won over) and those that are still trying to figure it out. There really is nothing else like Babymetal, they're brilliant and ahead of their time.
Su's voice break was incredible at 9:40 was awesome! And kudos to the kami band guitarists for soloing with Moa and Yui to make them feel more less anxious.
Even if the combination of both of their voices doesn't sound the greatest, you can't deny that this is awesome. She clearly was having the time of her life up there with Rob, this is awesome to watch. Great performance by them too with their song.
You're not even wrong, but I always thought that was part of why metal was dope. You don't HAVE to always sound incredible, play flawlessly, or be a perfect performer. Metal is a genre that thrives on imperfection; it's a reflection of that intense, grimy, go-hard spirit that comes from not being the ideal, and loving it.
@@pokemonsushi-chinglao8235 It's possible she can't safely. The fact that Rob can hit a tone that high and hasn't destroyed his vocal chords is amazing. Now, I'm not sure about her being unable, maybe she just prefers the lower tone.

2022, almost eerie watching this. Mikio is still alive, Yui is still with the band, and Babymetal is so new that the announcer can't figure out how to pronounce "Yui" and "Moa." So much has changed... and Babymetal just keeps coming back, better and better, year after year.
The choreography of Babymetal is insane, these girls must be in the best shape ever. The singer barely seems winded while she's singing. And i need 2 tried to get out of the couch.
lol You should watch videos of kpop singers doing pushups on stage while singing flawlessly. xD They and bands like babymetal really train a ton to be able to sing and move like that at the same time.

You can tell that young lady is so jazzed and honored to do that venue. Her demeanor shows so much respect and adoration for Mr. Halford. Classy young lady.
literally almost ANYTHING metal will be better live, not to shit on other artists but metal is usually just raw talent, the instruments, singing (screaming mostly), etc. a good handful of rap and hip-hop artists cant perform live for shit
I'm here again in 2019, listening to this awesome performance again, and only just now realized that Rob (while still singing) told the sound crew to turn him down on Breaking the Law and allowed Su to shine. Truly a fucking legend.
Too cool. Keep it girls, you have a fan here in the USA. Keep expanding and growing. Music is supposed to be fluid. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. This arrangement works!!!!
They likely learned it phonetically. To them if you took the sounds of the English lyrics, and read the Kanji replacements for them, it would be jibberish. Kanji, changed to allow for an English speaking person to sing the right sounds for a Japanese audience. Singer don't know what it means, but the audience does.
Singing-- and music in general-- is a universal language. Ever wondered why artists like Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, and Eric Clapton don't sound very neutral when they sing? People tend to lose their dialect within music because it's all about shaping the mouth to get the right sounds, regardless of language. A good singer can sing anything.
Ain't that hard to do, fam. I can sing a lot of songs in Japanese, German and Russian even though I don't understand them. Even if you don't understand the language, all you gotta do is listen to it enough times to memorize the sounds. That being said, a lot of younger Japanese tend to have a basic understanding of English.
The unsung hero of this broadcast is how scary accurate Moa and Yui are at miming playing guitar. As a guitarist I can clearly see they arent actually playing those solos, but they are doing a good enough job (Moa especially) at it that I had to look twice. I am not entirely convinced they werent playing some of the easy parts, actually. During the main riff and chords, Moa is actually playing it, whether she is in the mix, doubt it, I only hear two guitars, but I can clearly see her hitting the correct notes (open 2nd 3rd on A and 1st 3rd on E, and correct locations for the power chords A5 C5 G5 and later F5 E5 and B5). She is also picking correctly in the right rhythm. She is using a 21 fret mini guitar. Every time she hits B5 or G5 shes halfway up the neck. (she does make an obvious mistake at 11:11, and goes WAYYY too high there. She hits fret 14/15 and the song never goes that high in rhythm, the highest is fret 12 in the G5 power chord, where she was at 11:10). But it is an incredibly easy song. Anyone I have taught guitar, this is one of the earliest ones I teach. They were definitely miming the solos and fills (which is where Moa made her mistake I think, she was trying to mime the fill before the slide), but I think they were actually trying to play the rhythm sections for real, Moa does in fact play guitar. Yui looked fairly accurate as well for the "easy parts" but was definitely miming more than playing. This whole thing start to finish is amazing, really.
When Yui and Moa appeared with the guitars I was really excited! And Su always slaying that vocals! They seem like they're having a really good time on stage

Idc if Babymetal if actually metal or not. The thing is that they actually succeeded in fusing two polarizing genre, metal with its dark undertone and j-pop/j-idol with its cheerful and bright tone, that alone is enough to warrant a respect. I don't even listen to them but my appreciation towards them is off the chart. I'd gladly pay to watch them perform even though I only know few of their song.

The band is phenomenal and the biggest reason they had the momentum they did. They lost a couple of key members right before COVID so their momentum was shattered. They were headed places. Maybe they can do it again
@@Wyl7 The band is a lot of it, yes. But these girls aren't generic and are hard to replace. They have been putting a lot of work into being good leads for a metal band. And when one of the girls left, it took them a while to find a replacement.

Their whole choreographed dances combined with metal is who they are though. So many of people's favorite songs would feel so awkward without that. Start adding in some more freestyle stuff in the future? Sure. But they won't just discard their identity in order to be more like every other "normal" metal group.
orionzeden It's still kind of open to debate but the consensus is that it's mostly all mimed playing. They first met Rob last year at Rock on the Range actually. Regardless of how little they knew about the genre before this whole project began they have certainly learned very much about who's who over the past couple years and continue to grow and learn.
'Karate' is about "don't be scared, fight bravely with your own fears, be ready to change, and never give up". :) BTW, for japanese people, white clothes are like black to us. It symbols their "old" self, their fears, bad habits, etc. :)

They are one of the most unique metal bands out there. I thought they were a joke at first like I assume a lot of people did. But they have really made me change my opinion. Babymetal is legit and they are here to stay. Keep rocking it girls!
Su obivously enjoyed the show with Rob and seriously, who wouldn't ? Judas Priest is a legend, a role model for every young aspiring metal bands. But is it my imagination, or I really saw the newfound joy on Rob's face as well? Rob said as much in an interview right before or after the show. He was really impressed by the girls' energy and passion. Almost every big metal or rock band who meet BM seem to love them. And of course the Kami Band gets mad respect from everyone in the scene.

She absolutely was fangirling, you could tell by her body language and how she couldn't take her eyes off him. It's so cute! :3
@@wowl100 This is exactly what I was thinking.
That girl is loving her life while singing with Rob.

It sounded super organic
When you're a 70 year old man, and you can sing in higher key than a teenage japanese girl. Rob Halford is ageless.
She isn't singing in her highest tone obviously

2022, almost eerie watching this. Mikio is still alive, Yui is still with the band, and Babymetal is so new that the announcer can't figure out how to pronounce "Yui" and "Moa." So much has changed... and Babymetal just keeps coming back, better and better, year after year.

The choreography of Babymetal is insane, these girls must be in the best shape ever. The singer barely seems winded while she's singing. And i need 2 tried to get out of the couch.
The singer's name is Suzuka Nakamoto (a.k.a. Su-Metal), just FYI. Despite being just 18 when this was recorded, she's a seasoned pro.

You should watch videos of kpop singers doing pushups on stage while singing flawlessly. xD
They and bands like babymetal really train a ton to be able to sing and move like that at the same time.

Singing in English as well as her own language (Japanese) is such an amazing thing to do
They likely learned it phonetically.
@@DDS029 actually she knows english stupid fuck.
There are millions of people who know more than one language in the world. It’s impressive, but fairly normal to people outside America😂

It always looks like they're having fun.

When the band started playing painkiller...holy fuck they can really play.
Wait a minute, the girls are playing too?? I think I just pooped my pants
i think i pissed in my truspec urban camo combat uniform pants
I actually like the band more than the girls - they look and play so amazing
I believe all of the band members come from well known and established Heavy Metal outfits in Japan so yeah they got the talent which is nice.
Talented is an understatement. The Kami band comprises of the elite of the Metal musicians in Japan!
I fricking love baby metal. I don’t see how the crowd didn’t see more excited.
its so amazing that Su can dance her ass off and never be off key or sound tired
She's off key all the time you deaf punk.
Ahh, yes. The energy and stamina of youth!! 😁👍
ここまで到達してる日本人中々居ないよね。凄すぎる。
I didn't know till recently, the guitar player on the left side of the stage, Mikio Fujioka had passed away in 2018 age 36. He fell from an observation tower. Only 5'2" but was a monster guitar player. R.I.P.
How can anyone hate this? Babymetal clearly give absolutely no fucks whatsoever about what haters think, and Rob Halford clearly gives the same amount of fucks. This was the best moment of the dire shitshow that was the awards ceremony
cause its no real music, its just a fake band :) a wanking fantasy... they have no origin.... they came out of nowhere and going to nowhere....
The problem is the purists. What they dont know is that the bands dont care they just want to make music with anyone that whats to have a go.
F -André My brain hurts. Every band came out of nowhere plus these girls are talented as hell. And I Don’t even like their music that much!
If they're good enough for Rob Halford, they're good enough for me!
It was originally fabricated true however it was them who wanted to keep pursuing it. They started off as JPop only then they were introduced to Metal. And all of that is legit singing, there was no lip synching in site. This is far from fake
Let me start out by saying....i love Priest, have followed then thru the 80s and beyond....but i have NEVER heard Painkiller played that brutally.....Kami's are a special type of band and evoke a type of awe in the raw talent displayed.I would never wanna be the band that takes the stage after the Kami's \,,/
KAMI Band is basically a death metal band hence the brutality. XD
Well the kami band is made up of metal gods
the good part its that its nor even a joke, it is literally a group of some of the best metal musicians in the japan metal scene
That's a big part of why Babymetal is almost always better live. I had been aware of them for a while now, pretty much since the Headbanger video came out. But it was seeing videos of their performance at Sonisphere that made me a fan. Kami Band is one of the best live bands I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot of top level bands. You put Babymetal in front of that and it's win win.
> but i have NEVER heard Painkiller played that brutally.....
Never heard Death's cover? People say it's the definitive version.
Babymetal & Rob Halford doing Priest tunes together....epic level of awesomeness here.
The band doesn't usually come out but this was an exception, come out out guys, this will never happen again, jamming with Rob on Breaking the Law
