    Hello, I'm putting together an art travel case, so this video is very helpful. If you want to have some tape without the bulky roll, you could wrap some around a plastic gift card and it would be flat. I've seen people do this with Washi tape.

      Yep, I have a super cheap flat brush that I use for brushing off graphite or eraser dust from my watercolor paper. I had my husband cut off the majority of the handle, so that it would fit into my travel case. I just used a bit of fine sandpaper to smooth the cut end, and it’s perfect!

      @@AlisaLaporteArt There's also silicon collapsing cups in the camping section. I have a couple that are about 8-9 ounces each, and fold down to about .75" high, and are about 3.75" square. A bit big for my "tuck in the purse/bag" kit, but good for more extended traveling.

    With regards to the Washi tape....I use masking tape and cut lengths and tape any plastic or metal surface I have...ie..back of paint set, back plastic palette,...wherever...that way I've always got tape and uts not taking up space...also...as for a small water vessel...look at dollar tree for a sauce cup...usually holds about an ounce of water...

    If you are in LA, I found a collapsible cup at Daiso (the Japanese store) for about $2 or so.
    Very Convienient and they come with a little lid that could possibly be used for mixing paint. It sits about 1/2 an inch tall when fully collapsed. and its bout
    Also, for your liner brush, You could take a file and trim off and in or inch and a half from the end of the brush. If its specifically your travel brush then it won't matter that its a little shorter. I def want to get that Escoda travel set.
    And I love the Micron markers. I use a .5, .3, and .2 (very nice for fine lines). I probably use the .2 the most.

    For my water cups I alternate from a single $2 shop silicone cupcake holder which squashes flat to a couple of old school film canisters. An excellent video, with clear explanations and very useful tips and suggestions.
    I've recently put together my "on the move" kit and I see that we have very similar contents. 😀 I'm using a Mountain waist pack (fanny pack/bum bag/riñonera), as I often move around by bicycle, so it's easy to carry and has enough zip pockets and space.
    My Faber-Castell Fineliner isn't waterproof, so I've since taken it out of the kit I also take one fountain pen with Carbon Ink, which I like to use for line work and some shading/cross-hatching etc.
    Good idea for the short handle flat hake brush, I might look for one of those. I've been thinking of getting a couple of Escoda travel brushes too, as they are a good quality brush.

    • @AlisaLaporteArt
      @AlisaLaporteArt  3 года назад +1

      That's a great idea Mark, to put it into a fanny pack, I will have to look into that as I move around a lot as well, or if my kids are with me I need my hands free. What is the name of the graphite ink you are using? I'm interested in that.

    • @markdonovan1540
      @markdonovan1540 3 года назад +1

      @@AlisaLaporteArt I've just ordered the Platinum Carbon Ink (sorry, not "Graphite" ink - I've since amended the previous comment). The watercolour compatible fountain pen ink I'm using at the moment is Sketch Ink by Rohrer & Klingner. It comes in various colours too.
      Regarding the fanny pack, the only disadvantage is not being able to open it up and lay it flat, but I usually just take out what I need and work on a table or bench etc. I keep the pens, pencils and water brushes (mine are Tombow) in a mini-pencil case (from IKEA) that is in the bag. My paint set is an old Van Gogh 15 pan plastic pallete, filled with my own choice of tube paints - it fits in the bag, but it's a bit bulky and heavy, so I'm looking for a small tin like the Altoids one you have.

    • @AlisaLaporteArt
      @AlisaLaporteArt  3 года назад +1

      Mark, I appreciate the info for the Carbon ink pen, I will have to give it a go! I like the idea of having different colors as well.
      I think both kind of packs have their advantages and disadvantages, but if we find something that works for us and allows us to continue painting that's what counts. The Altoids tin works great, I have even made my own pans before using sculpey dough to put the paints in. I have loved my Escoda travel brushes so much, I think you would enjoy them too! I have been updating my travel bag since this video, I think It's time I updated it! Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing more from you and hope to see some of your work too!

      @@AlisaLaporteArt thank you for the feedback and ideas. I've never shared my work on social media, just with friends so far. I'm a newbie at this, with no art background to speak of. Still, I love it and I've gone a bit crazy with art supplies over the last year, so just now I'm settling into a groove a bit more. I play around with landscape paintings and some flowers, by mainly using RUclips tutorials and demos, but also some reference photos from the Internet or photos I take myself. Occassionally, I do weird stuff that some how pops out of my imagination. I got into sketching more recently, so I'm trying to do that more and improve my observation and drawings skills. I have moments of intense painting activity and then nothing for a couple of weeks. Anyway, I enjoy learning and making a mess too!

    • @AlisaLaporteArt
      @AlisaLaporteArt  3 года назад +1

      @@markdonovan1540 I think it's great that you have started and enjoy the art process, that's what it's all about. Keep painting, and drawing it will help you move forward in your work. I love that you said you have been spending more time sketching and observing, I believe it's when we take the time to observe not only our surroundings but our drawings as well that we truly improve. We need to take notice of both the good and bad in our own work, to know what to do in the future and how to change the mistakes we made. I have moments where I just want to create but not necessarily create something specific, but get out my feelings on paper or canvas. Thank you so much for talking with me and sharing the start of your art journey, I look forward to seeing you grow in your art!
