You two are the only sailing channel that I can honestly say I have watched sail all over the world and still like to watch. I love your relationship with each other, your banter, how you deal with the hardships and challenges. His rants ( which have been few recently) , and her wonderful smiles are both a joy to see. In short, you two are a joy and I thank you for letting us come along on your adventures. Peace and Merry Christmas.
You asked for feedback on other cat designs with excellent ventilation, and our 15m custom design in 2015 had specific design criteria for tropical cruising to remote areas and enough self sufficiency to stay out for prolonged periods. We didn't exactly predict a pandemic ( well actually we did, but that's another story....) but you never know when self sufficiency may come in handy. She has 6 large forward facing/top opening hopper windows, 4 right across the saloon and 2 into the cockpit under the hardtop, plus a large flow through system down each hull into the aft cabins and over the queen beds. A large outward opening hatch in the forward section under the tramps is hinged on the aft edge so it catches the wind and rams it down the hull and there are aft opening hatches in the aft cabins to pull the air through, using the venturi effect. Other examples of self sufficiency features are rainwater gutter all around the hardtop and cabintop the are plumbed to the tanks, and a slide out tiered solar array of 4.3kW on the hardtop that drive the boat at 5 knots with the 20 kW electric motor directly.
I hope the 1370 lives up to it's numerical superiority over the 1260. 1370 - 1260 = 110% More Better! While the Australia segment has been a wonderful vacation I admit to much enthusiasm for the next segment of your journey. :)
I don't think there could have been a better use of your time in the final planning and begin construction of the 1370 than living on the 1260's. Those small changes you decided to make are the pieces you are fitting that will make the 1370 your own, and will make a difference down the road. Looking forward to the build!
I can't wait to see where you both turn up next! This was such a nice series of episodes. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous & joyful New Year!

Congratulations on your next adventure! I am looking forward to seeing the evolution of the build of your 1370. Safe travels. Merry Christmas to you both.
It is going to wonderful to see you sailors in your new boat. I love the detail, and thoughtfulness that went into your new design. One thing that would be good that no one is doing is what do you do when you run aground. Another cruiser challenged me on my answer so I did a test on my theory. When you put a pvc pipe on a vacuum cleaner, and plung it into the water then see how deep it will go, and still blow bubbles that depth on water column in inches can be converted to PSI My rigid vacuum cleaner can push 50 inches That converts to 1.80 psi.. You can do the math so if you had an air bag that was 10ft x 10ft and = 14,400 square inches x 1.8 = 25,920 pounds this bag could lift. 3 plastic cylinders 6ft diameter x 40ft would easily lift your boat. Slowly
Another great season of sailing from you both. Thanks for showing us the world and the insightful reviews on boating aspects. Really looking forward to seeing Ruby Rose 2 in the New Year. Have a great Christmas.
Great adventures in Australia, wonderful travels in such a beautiful country. Blessings for a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. 🙏🎄🎄🎄🥰
You guys are awesome. I have now retired in Bali having sold my marina business in Australia (that I built up over near on a 30 year period) so I know my way around a boat or two. Can I say your attention to detail and especially Nick's Tech Talks are bang on buddy... please keep them going they are so helpful for the beginners out there. I use to run once a month "Tech Talks" for my customers, so after hours we would put on a Sausage Sizzle and a few cold beers and invite customers into the workshop after hours and each month we'd tackle another subject (maintaining batteries to changing fuel filters at sea)... they loved it. Keep up the good work guys and all the very best with RR2 I hope she turns out exactly what you're after. Take care and safe travels. Cheers Don.

Sad to see the time in Oz come to a end, but looking forward to your next adventure. Assuming it was a calculated choice spending time aboard a couple Seawind 1260's. But it has to have been beneficial "feeling them out" for ideas and thoughts, when planning, customizing, and tweaking Ruby Rose 2.

Two non-sequiter questions for RR and the peanut gallery: 1) How do you avoid, prevent or guard against fuel contamination? 2) Do most catamarans run one or both engines when cruising? Many thanks to any and all who respond. Bill N.
Most cats run 1 engine because the amount of extra speed doesn't add up to the amount of fuel you spend by running two. Most cruisers will in fact rotate between the two engines so each gets about the same number of hours. I am not sure what your question is about fuel contamination is? The fuel system is all sealed and they generally only fill fuel when at a fuel doc. Unless on an ocean crossing where they might have brought extra jerry cans. They will then add fuel in calm seas or turned around backwards.
@@RiverWoods111 Re Fuel contamination..When in the Bahamas 50 years ago, we were warned about contaminated fuel from out-of-the-way sources. Are there filters available for the fuel filler inlets is what I'm asking. Thank you Sallyjane!
@@billniederauer5599 Okay, thank you! I had no idea what you were talking about. Yes, you can get bad fuel from remote places from time to time. The biggest issue I see is what they call fuel bug which is where Alge starts to grow in the fuel I believe from water in the fuel, but I am not sure on that matter. Sorry, I am a bit autistic, so I don't read into sentences to figure out what people are actually saying.
Definitely could do but depends hugely on the design. A catamaran sits on the water, a mono sits in the water so a medium-heavy displacement larger mono particularly with a deep encapsulated keel will cut through swell really well. A smaller lighter mono might still bounce around a bit.
Take a look at RAN sailing in there Halberge ..Scandi monohull in similar conditions through Biscay and the Iberian coast for a comparison. Its as good if not a better place to be.

Thanks for a great season. Can't wait to see the new Ruby Rose II as they complete the build and you get her into the water. Is the plan to take delivery in the USA after the boat show circuit? A suggestion: if you find yourself back in the northern hemisphere and perhaps on the Atlantic coast of the USA headed through the Canal and on to French Poly, consider a diversion to Hawaii and then on to the Pacific Northwest of North America. It isn't tropical (far from it), but the Inside Passage from Seattle, WA through British Columbia to Southeast Alaska is one of the finest cruising grounds on Earth. Bettter yet, have Seawind schedule the new Ruby Rose II into the Seattle Boat Show. Then you won't have to put in the hard time getting up the coast from Panama. And you can always go down the West Coast to Mexico and off to the South Pacific in the usual sequence from here.
