    I bought one of these recently because my BMW was sitting and the batteries dead. I watched a couple other videos but they weren’t helpful. I love how you showed exactly what to do and the graphics that went along with it. Excellent video! I did subscribe to your channel I’m a 58-year-old woman and I truly believe I can do this by myself so thank you!

    I just bought this because our car isn’t being driven much as my husband has Parkinson’s. The battery just got changed to a new one and the mechanic suggested we keep a trickle charger on it since the old battery was corroded horribly. He suggested trickle will keep it from doing that. Hoping this helps! Loved your video! The tiny manual was ridiculous! Thank you for helping me out since I’m learning a lot since his Parkinson’s happened! Bless your heart!🙏

    So my 12V regular size car battery (SC400 Lexus V8) died the other day (car sits a lot and battery is 5 years old) and had to jump it. Drove about 20 miles and hooked Noco Genius-1 up. After 48 hours still slow red blink (less than 75%). Is that normal? (battery is 5 years old). Should I give it a few more hours or just get a new battery? I saw on your chart Genius-1 takes up to 60 hours for a car battery, so I guess I should just let it continue?

    Hello, helpful video. One question, can the car battery be left fully connected when the being charged in maintenance mode. I would like to have the terminals permanently fixed and then just pop the hood and plug in the charger.

    • @FullThrottleBHP
      @FullThrottleBHP  9 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for reaching out, glad to hear you found the episode helpful.
      Yes, you can leave the battery fully connected to the vehicle for maintenance charging. The built in quick disconnect wire harness on the Noco genius is a great feature for this. You can use the eyelit connectors to permentantly attach to your battery and then easily connect/disconnect the charger.
      If you have any other questions be sure to let me know, will help anyway I can. Please consider leaving a thumbs up and subscribing as well if you have not already. I greatly appreciate your support.

    Super helpful video! I picked one 6 months ago on sale and will use it this week to maintain my car battery.
    Question: does this have an auto-detect if my dad doesn't know what kind/size battery he has in his car?
    Thanks!

      Sadly they do not have an autodetect for the type of battery. I truly wish they did as it would be a very helpful feature to have. You would have to identify the type of battery and select the proper charge mode manually.
      If your fathers vehicle has the original battery you may be able to google the make and model to identify the type of battery that it would have. This may be an easier option vs trying to get to the battery as some are very tough to locate.
      I hope this helps and if you have any other questions do not hesitate to reach out.

    I went with this over a Schumacher. (I was reading some bad stuff about their "bad battery" feature.) The NOCO needs a MUCH longer cord. And an on/off switch! (For reasons too detailed to list here I can't hook this up to an on/off power strip.) Now I have to purchase the NOCO 10' extension which is back in stock RIGHT AFTER I purchased the GENIUS 1. Because of course it is. LOL. NOTE: Because of "parasitic draw" I hook up a smart charger every time I park my car. (Sometimes it sits for more than a week.) My last BMW battery lasted 13 years. Every brand of smart charger I looked at is designed WITHOUT an on/off switch so you can't unhook them & GO without unplugging them everytime you drive. Safety feature? Or just plain DUMB? I think it's dumb.
    Otherwise, good review of a highly rated charger!

      Hello, thanks for reaching out and your comments. You are 100% right the Noco 1 needs a longer cord... I do not like how the unit it self is the plug. The other models are not set up like this. I am also in the same boat with my C63 AMG. The parasitic draw is heavy and the battery needs maintained when it sits. I now use this noco genius as the dedicated maintainer for it and has been working great since. An on / off would be a nice addition.
      When I use the quick disconnect feature I will only use that to disconnect the battery from the unit and leave the unit plugged in. It will default into standby mode. I am not sure if this the recommended method by Noco or if it should be unplugged from main power every time, but something to consider.

      @@FullThrottleBHP I have the quick disconnect on my Harley on an old Deltran charger & leave it plugged into power all the time. I've been doing it for years without any problem. You're probably okay doing this. However, I once unplugged it from the power to do some cleaning in the garage & left the entire unit hooked up to the battery. I forgot to plug it back in & after 2 days the Deltran totally drained the battery. It was dead & there was no bringing it back up even with a quick charger. I don't know why this happened. So I never leave a charger unplugged without also removing it from the battery.
      Unfortunately my BMW (battery in the trunk) has jumper posts under the hood which won't allow me a permanent hook-up for quick disconnect. The posts are too big. I have to use the clips. I actually need the unit that plugs into the wall. I talked to NOCO support (email) bacause the initial 1 amp charge was so slow (& another issue below). It took days to get a solid green light on a BRAND NEW battery. They recommended I buy the Genius 5. Overkill & too expensive. After the initial charge on the Genius 1 it brings the battery up pretty quickly after I drive the car. So maintenance is working just fine. I have no idea why the intial charge takes so long. But, other people have complained about this same issue. So far, this is a GREAT charger!
      IMPORTANT: It's ESSENTIAL to know the chemistry of your battery & use the proper setting. (Per NOCO support) Fully charging (SOLID GREEN) a lead acid battery on the AGM setting will damage the battery. The first day I had the charger set to AGM & luckily it was still in the RED. Support told me as long as it hadn't fully charged (SOLID GREEN) the battery on that setting it would be okay.
      NOCO email support is pretty awesome. Don't hesitate to use it. They respond in a timely manner & they're very knowledgable.

    Can't believe I went to the trouble of ordering this item online, running a battery test on both of my cars with my OBDII scanner, determining that both batteries were in good condition, then hooked this up to both cars for 48 hours..........nothing but a pulsating red light. Never charged either battery. Company apparently has no QC.

      @@FullThrottleBHP Update: I returned the original charger to Home Depot and ordered a new one online the same day. That charger has been hooked up to my Merc for 3 1/2 days and is still pulsing red. I used my OBDII reader battery check function today and it said my battery was good, but NOCO says that even a near dead battery would take 60 hours and it has been much longer than that. Haven't tried it on my Volvo again because Volvo doesn't give the easy access to the battery terminals like Mercedes. I had tested my battery last time and it passed the test as in good condition (less than 2 years old) Guess maybe HD got an entire batch of defective devices. Have been going back and forth with NOCO support for hours. They claim that the Genius I will not charge a Mercedes battery; only the NOCO 5, so after purchasing two NOCO Is, they say that the NOCO 1 was never made for car batteries and that "parasitic drain" would be taking too much power from the battery anyway to keep up with the charger. I happen to have along multi-decade history in automotive repair and know quite a lot about parasitic drain and have never heard so much baloney. I even told them I was aware of another Mercedes owner who successfully used the NOCO 1 and had no problems. That didn't seem to matter to them. They said it would have to be connected for up to 52 hours.......I told them it has been connected for 96. Made no difference. Ran several battery tests with my OBD II scanner, which reported the battery in good condition, as well as my charging system. They also claimed that I would have to disconnect the battery from the car and charge the battery directly with the NOCO ! for it to have any chance of charging the battery. Was just at Home Depot yesterday.......have to make another trip to return this thing.

      It almost sounds like it is kicking into force mode..
      It should function as shown in the episode. Connect to terminals to battery. Plug into a 120v outlet. All lights should flash then select the charge mode. Then indicator lights should adjust as the battery voltage increases.
      Do you have another battery you could test it on?

It came with a small booklet filled with the smallest print ever, in multiple languages, that described all sorts of legal disclaimers. It did state that to get Instructions, you had to scan a QR code that ultimately still didn't provide instructions. It takes you to their website advertising more products. However, no link anywhere to instructions. Try the Chat function there? Requires you to register your information in order to Chat! No guarantees it will take you to instructions, though.

    Hi, my car battery was dead, right now Pittsburgh is zero below, can I still charge my battery outside my garage door during daytime for 6 hours, after 6 hours, can I disconnected it and start my car, thank you 🙏

    • @FullThrottleBHP
      @FullThrottleBHP  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for reaching out, yes you can still charge the battery below zero. The charger will automatically adjust to the temperature to safely charge your battery. Depending on the size of the battery and voltage level 6 hours may be enough to start the car. But there is many variables. The charger will show you the charge level with the indicator lights which will give you an idea when the battery is fully charge.

    I have a noco 1 in the uk, it stopped working after about 12months so contacted noco to open a warranty claim it’s been extremely frustrating and slow takes several emails to get to each stage of their warranty claim process it’s been a couple of months now trying to get a replacement but I’m not giving up..
    I won’t be buying any noco stuff

      Thank you for reaching out. I am very sorry to hear your experience with noco has not been the best. I have been hearing from multiple people they have been receiving defective units but normally noco is very quick at resolving and having a new unit sent out right away. I personally have not had to deal with the support team or warranty claims so no first hand experience. They have a 3 year warranty so should be no issue getting a new unit for you. I would not give up either. Thank you again for sharing your experience and wish you all the best!

    In Arizona and the deserts of California, it does not get below 104F for three months at a time in Summer. So this charger will not work!

    • @FullThrottleBHP
      @FullThrottleBHP  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for reaching out. One solution would be to remove the battery if you are trying to charge for one time use. If you are trying to maintain the battery between drives then you may have an issue. If your vehicle is inside a garage you would still be okay. The issue isn't this charger. I have yet to find a charger that has an operating temp rating above 104F. As a battery becomes hotter the charging efficiency severely drops and will come to a point it is doing more harm then good.
      As with anything, batteries suffer from extream heat or cold and comes to a point you may need to just replace if you live in a climate with extream temp and your battery requires continuous charging.
      I am glad you pointed this out as some may not consider the factor temperature has and so many do have to deal with extream heat or cold for long periods of time. Hope this helps other viewers as well, and hopefully you found the episode helpful non the less. Thank you again for reaching out and your support.

    Which mode for a car battery?

    • @FullThrottleBHP
      @FullThrottleBHP  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for reaching out. That is a tough question due to the different models of batteries used in todays vehicles. What vehicle do you have? I may be able to look up to see what battery came standard in your vehicle to help identify which charge mode is required to safely charge your battery. Another option is to look at your battery if it is easily accessible. It will state if it is a AGM / Standard etc. Please let me know and I will try to assist further.

      @@crypticreality8484 From my research it appears it should be a standard acid battery. You would want to use the standard 12V mode on the charger to maintain or charge the battery.

    Im so confused, my car battery is 3 months old, but i was in the hospital and didnt start mny car for a month, came home and everythign was completely dead, couldnt even unlock my doors with the fob. Bought this charger and from the moment i hooked it up it seems im getting the slow green pulse which indicates its fully charged.

      I'm sorry to hear you were in the hospital and hope things are going better now. Regarding your vehicle it is not unheard of for the battery to drain down over 3 months especially if it's a new vehicle. Lots of modules, sensors that are constantly using power.
      It is odd you are only getting a green light from the start. Is the battery fully chartered after using the charger? Any signs of a low battery?
      Also did you select the proper charge mode for your style battery? It is possible the mode was incorrect causing a faulty reading /charge to the battery. This is very easy to do.

      This episode is a "Full Unboxing" episode. Lots of people enjoy full unboxing episodes which shows the packaging as recieved and going through the entire process as you seen in this episode..
      It has nothing to do with taking up time. On youtube once someone does become monetized you do not make "advertising revenue" based off the length of a video. Making a video longer for no reason has zero benefit to me or my viewers.
      I do appreciate your feedback and will take into consideration in future episodes. Your support is greatly appreciated as well.

    So I just got one the other day and hooked it up to my battery I done everything that it said to do and it’s been on there for over a day now and it’s showing a solid red light on 12 volts can you explain to me what that means?

    • @WriterandPhotographer

      I had found another video where the guy said that if a battery is really dead, but hasn't been in that condition for a long time, then it is beneficial to jump it from another vehicle, which provides enough energy that the battery charge realizes that charging isn't a lost cause and it will begin charging. In other words, you have to fool the circuitry in the chargers when they don't defect a certain voltage because the battery is that low. I ran into this with one of my cars when I tried to charge it with the Noco the first time. After 9 hours, nothing had changed.
