Who can remember the ending of the 1st movie? When Gru originally only adopted Margo, Edith, & Agnes to get the shrink ray, but then he became genuinely attached to them. I adored the ending when Gru reads them a bedtime story he wrote himself, inspired by a book about kittens. In his story, he is a unicorn, & he incorporated them as the kittens who melted his heart. Then he unexpectedly went to kiss them all good night, then Margo (the one with glasses) actually hugged Gru & said “I love you”. 🥲 the music in the background really does help.

@@masedaace5473 I loved the first movie, but because of Gru's character arc not because of the minions at all. Actually the movie wouldn't have lost much without the minions. When 100% of the marketing of the second movie only showed the minions, with Gru being nowhere to be seen, I completely lost interest in the franchise. It turns out there was actually a nice cinematic trailer that showed that it was going to be a spy thriller with an emphasis on comedy... I assume that trailer was shown as a movie preview in theaters because I never saw it on TV, it wasn't until years later I saw that trailer on RUclips, and by that point the Minions movie was coming out so it's pretty clear that as soon as the second movie was started, they pretty much only focused on the minions in the marketing.

Despicable Me 4 needs to be set a few years (around between 4-7 years) after the third film, with the kids growing up and focusing on Gru going through Empty Nest Syndrome.
I also hope in the upcoming film, we get a evolved minion as the antagonist, who's independent, self-motivated and speaking human languages. It also creates a parallel between him and Gru.

A cool fact about Scarlet: One of Scarlet's paint collections is Andy Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans". There are 32 of these paintings. Each of them features a different flavor. The one Scarlet has in her collection is the Tomato Soup, which debuted in 1897 by the Campbell Soup Company. The company is still making this soup. Warhol first exhibited these 32 paintings in 1962. The first _Despicable Me_ is definitely the best film in Illumination's library. (Aside from _The Super Mario Bros. Movie,_ that is.) With plenty of genuine heart to balance out the humor. The second film didn't have as much heart, but was still pretty good. The first _Minions_ was funny for the first five minutes, then just became cringe whenever Scarlet Overkill wasn't on screen, _Despicable Me 3_ was okay, but nowhere near as good as the first two, and _Rise of Gru_ is definitely better than the first _Minions,_ and honestly a guilty pleasure of mine. Overall, this franchise did a great job at putting Illumination on the map, but definitely contributed to its infamous reputation later on. And I have no clue where _Despicable Me 4_ currently in development could possibly go from here.

I actually legitimately enjoyed the first movie. I thought the humor could be really clever at times and it had me bursting out laughing at some parts too. Like the first time you see Vectors hideout and the pyramid is painted to look like the sky with a cloud on it. But I also think that the “heart” wasn’t half assed in that movie, like it feels in its sequels.

Another fact from Rise of Gru: Gru goes to an ice cream shop and skips the line by spraying all the customers with his "cheese ray," yelling "Cheese ray! Cheese ray! Cheese ray!" This is a reference to the first Despicable Me film, in which he freezes all customers at a coffee shop with his freeze ray, yelling "Freeze ray! Freeze ray! Freeze ray!" Minions: The Rise of Gru is a prequel to Despicable Me, and so the freeze ray is perhaps a result of improvements made on the cheese ray; perhaps Gru realized freezing people was more effective than covering them in liquid cheese

Another fact from the 2nd Despicable Me:When Gru goes back to Macho's house to rescue Lucy, he goes in handcuffs with two minions painted purple. The scene is reminiscent of R2D2 and C3PO going to Jaba's palace because of the shot of the door opening, with large teeth on the bottom of the door to prevent it from being battered in. It is shot from the same angle and is thus a tribute to Return of the Jedi in that brief shot.

I feel like these movies are successful because they blend in a little adult humor into the films, and it's well balanced with the mostly kid humor as well. It never tries to go too far in the PG-13 direction, which, for a kid flick, is good. But, it doesn't resort to pandering too much, and they are very colorful and bright. Seems like a very successful formula.

On the shelf behind him, the labels on the bottles read, "POP (then in much smaller letters) soda", and the word "POP" is arranged to make the cheeky joke of creating the word "POOP". One can assume this must be intentional, as the word "pop", which is necessary for the joke, is used pretty exclusively in a small part of the upper Midwest, or pretty much all of Europe.

Why is it the Minions from Despicable Me are so popular/iconic yet the Pizza Planet Aliens from Toy Story aren't? I've never been a fan of the Minions at all, but even the 1st time I saw Despicable Me I enjoyed everything in the film except the Minions. Part of the reason why they were annoying was the fact that they only spoke in gibberish & the occasional word, but I realized after a while that they are blatant ripoffs of the Aliens from Toy Story. Think about it: The Aliens are 3 eyed green aliens with oval heads in blue jumpsuits that often speak in unison & only say a few things. The Minions are 1 eyed yellow round creatures in blue overalls that often speak in unison & say even fewer things. But the most annoying thing about the Minions to me is that (much like a lot of side comic relief characters in animated kids films) they are far too overused & take away from the seriousness of scenes while the Aliens are sparingly used to make a quick joke & lighten the mood (or at 1 point save the day) then move on. Finally, while there are some who argue that the Minions are far more useful as sidekicks helpers to the main cast than the Aliens, l the Minions (as shown from their spin off film) cause a lot of problems for the people they work for, meanwhile the Aliens (as we saw from the Buzz Lightyear animated tv show) are actually scientists & engineers that are key to Star Command rather then a hindrance to Buzz & the other Space Rangers. Sorry I went on a rant in this comment, but I really can't stand the Minions, so it bothers me how "iconic" they became in popular culture when they are so annoying as side characters especially when compared to the Pizza Planet Aliens.
