    Generic name: Triamterene.
    Brand names: Dyrenium.
    Available as a tablet.
    How to use it?
    - Tablet: Just swallow it with half a glass of water.
You may take the medicine at any time of the day. It is best to choose a fixed time, then you are less likely to forget a dose.
    When to use it?
Triamterene is a diuretic, also known as a water pill. Triamterene helps you get rid of salts and water. The result is an increased production of urine, which will make you pee more often.
Through this effect, Triamterene is used to treat fluid retention, also called edema, in people with congestive heart failure or a severely impaired kidney function. Furthermore, Triamterene can also be used to treat high blood pressure.
When taking triamterene it will be effective within 2-4 hours.
    What is the correct dosage?
The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you.
    - However, when using it to treat edema, most doctors will start with an initial dose of 150-200 mg/day in 2 doses. Which if necessary can be increased up to a max. dos of 300 mg/day.
    - When using it to treat high blood pressure, most doctors will prescribe a dose of 50 mg 1x/day. The usually maintenance dose will be 25-100 mg/day.
    What are the side-effects?
    - Gastrointestinal complaints (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea). Muscle spasms, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, rash, blood cell disorders, formation of kidney stones, renal- and kidney failure, acute gout attack and electrolyte disturbances.
    Safety:
    - You may feel a little dizzy when using this medicine. If you do experience dizziness, do not participate in traffic.
    - Furthermore, in moderation it can also be combined with alcohol. Although, combining triamterene with alcohol could increase certain side effects. Therefore always be careful.
    - Next, Triamterene could have interactions with other drugs you are using. Therefore always discuss this with your personal doctor.
    - Lastly, Triamterene could be dangerous for pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding. Therefore always discuss this with your personal doctor.

I've been taking Trimterene 75/HCTZ 50 for years..Somewhat recently have edema in my legs. Possibly better alternatives? Also, side affects if I start adding Apple Civer Vinegar to my diet. This is the only drug I take... for high blood pressure.. I'm 83 years old/young
