    • @ThinkYourHealth
      @ThinkYourHealth  3 года назад +1

      Both are diuretics. Lasix and HCTZ work on different parts of the kidney for their effect.HCTZ is a better blood pressure medication. Lasix is primarily used to remove excess fluid. If you are interested here is a video I did on Lasix: ruclips.net/video/zhpi-3WigDM/видео.html

    My dr just prescribed this for me. I have never been on bp medicine. Im so disappointed in myself. I've lost 57lbs so far. I'm going to try to lose even more. Both my parents have high bp and my grandma died at 67 from congestive heart failure. My dr told me it is hereditary for me to have high bp. I'm going to get a gym membership and start watching what I eat even more. I'm 31. Thanks for this video!

    Are CTD and Hctz same medicine? Those who consume too much salt while eating or have habit of adding exta salt while eating can they take this medicine to reduce sodium level?
    Why hctz is adviced when a person with BP is already on BP medicine? Is not there risk of sudden drop in BP?

      Both CTD and HCTZ are diuretics.CTD (Chlorthalidone is the ingredient) is an older, but potent diuretic.Usually, two or sometimes more BP meds. are used to better control someone's blood pressure, but as you correctly pointed out there is the higher risk of side effects. That is why the most important things individuals should do are dietary changes, monitoring salt intake, regular exercise.

      Usually it would be with higher doses than 25mg, the one listed in uptodate.com ( a peer reviewed websites for health care providers) is: "Cardiovascular: Hypersensitivity angiitis, hypotension (including orthostatic)" HCTZ can effect your electrolytes as pointed out in the video these are :reversible hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, hypercalcemia, and hyponatremia .These conditions may increase the risk of arrhythmias.

      Here I am directly quoting from uptodate.com which a evidence-based clinical decision support resource for health care providers:
      " Hydrochlorothiazide crosses the placenta (Beerman 1980).
      Maternal use may cause fetal or neonatal jaundice, thrombocytopenia, or other adverse events observed in adults.
      Use of thiazide diuretics to treat edema during normal pregnancies is not appropriate; use may be considered when edema is due to pathologic causes (as in the nonpregnant patient); monitor.
      Chronic maternal hypertension is associated with adverse events in the fetus/infant. The risk of birth defects, low birth weight, premature delivery, stillbirth, and neonatal death may be increased with chronic hypertension in pregnancy. Actual risks may be related to duration and severity of maternal hypertension. Diuretics are considered second-line therapy for treating chronic hypertension in pregnancy (ACOG 203 2019).
      The treatment of edema associated with chronic heart failure during pregnancy is similar to that of nonpregnant patients. Use of thiazide diuretics may be considered but use with caution due to the potential reduction in placental blood flow. Patients diagnosed after delivery can be treated according to heart failure guidelines (ESC [Bauersachs 2016]; ESC [Regitz-Zagrosek 2018])."

    This medication is hard on the body and makes you feel like crap, it depletes all of your electrolytes not just sodium. It can cause your mental health to decline. It can cause higher blood sugars. Taking this medication I could not lose weight because of the high blood sugars. It makes you crave sugar at an alarming rate because your body isn’t holding on to electrolytes so your kidneys want the sugar to try and hold on to some electrolytes, thus causing weight gain. Also I would always get random kidney pains and spasms in that region. This medication made me sun light sensitive and itchy. I was getting sciatica and chronic back pain from it, the electrolytes help stimulate your nerves and nervous system thus being low in them can cause so many issues. Electrolyte deficiency can cause chronic cortisol elevation. I had extremely low libido and could not hold an erection, also it exacerbated my ADHD to where I couldn’t concentrate on the slightest thing for more than a few minutes, low electrolytes can cause neurotransmitter disruption thus making my ADHD worse. It caused my hands and feet to always get numb, this is associated with lack of nerve stimulation and or damage to the nerves. Lastly this medication increased my heart rate I was always tachycardic my heart rate just after a simple walk would be 110-130 my resting heart rate would always be high 90s-100. This medication is so harsh, and I had no clue it was this medication causing me so many health problems, my Dr never explained any of this to me. What I did was up my magnesium via supplement with magnesium glycinate and ate potassium rich foods, and my BP normalized within a week, and all these side effects subsided in about 3 weeks. I’ll never take a diuretic again.

      My NP put me on HCTZ 12.5 MG about a month ago and I finally had enough of feeling like garbage and stopped taking it yesterday. But I’m still not feeling well.
      I experienced so many side effects including No energy, couldn’t sleep/rest, loss of appetite, low libido, stomach issues, my legs felt heavy and numb sometimes, anxiety and panic attacks out of nowhere, slight lower back pain and side pains sometimes…. My NP never explained any of this to me. And I was eating Bananas and drinking electrolytes daily when I read up on others having these side effects but it still didn’t help.

      @@speedracerjeff Yes, this med is terrible. Electrolytes are so important and this medication doesn’t just zap sodium it zaps all your electrolytes that’s why you feel so terrible! Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium all play a crucial role in just about every bodily function. I took myself off of it after my side effects ruining my life. So I started by taking a high quality magnesium glycinate, I take it first thing in the morning and at night. Mag is really good a relaxing blood vessels and opening up blood vessels. And I eat at least 2-4 high potassium produce fruit or veg a day, bananas, avocados, sweet potato etc..

      @@speedracerjeff All of my side effects fully subsided in about 3 weeks or so and my sciatic back pain took the longest to go, that took a little over a month, and I had terrible sleep as well! I would wake up 3-4 times a night. Now I sleep through the night most nights. And I’m not always waking up to go pee which is a relief! My bp without the hydro when I was first diagnosed was always 160/90 the hydro kept me at 120-130/80, without the hydro and just the high quality Mag and potassium rich food I’m even better at 110-120/70 and 80. Best part is without all of those terrible side effects! Any other questions just let me know sorry for getting back to you so late!

      @@ItsTheJourney24 thanks so much for getting back to me. It feels good to talk to others like yourself that went through these bad side effects due to hydro. I was only on it for a month but the last 2 weeks of that month were the worst I’ve felt in years. I just had more lab work done and the results came in today. All my electrolytes and potassium were at normal levels as of yesterday. It’s probably cause I’ve been consuming a ton of food and drinks with potassium the past week. But I still feel fatigue, it comes and goes. Every day I’m feeling a little more energetic. I stopped taking Hydro on Saturday and last night I finally got some decent sleep for the first time in weeks. I can’t imagine what you went through and how you powered through all those symptoms for so long! 1 month was bad enough for me. I’m trying my best to eat real healthy now and exercise more and lose some weight and try not to take anymore blood pressure meds. My NP wanted to put me on Losartan I think next, but I read that can have the same side effects that I had on Lisinopril which included a bad dry cough, so I stopped taking that one too. I guess all these meds have such bad side effects. Thanks for the info and replies, and overall support!
