Megan McKinney that’s literally how it works people always assume I’m straight so every time someone asks if you’re spending time with your boyfriend or if you have a husband etc you’re always put in a position to come out again and again and again.

This is so insanely accurate. You are never fully out to everyone, I have to come out to people everyday because I don’t “look” gay. Until the world stops assuming sexual preferences, we’ll keep having to come out again and again.

Eventually they figure it out when you have a partner. I wouldnt stress it. Nobody really needs to know unless your trying to get with them anyway. Its silly to go around telling everyone. People who do that are annoying really. Like they are seeking attention for their sexuality. Doesnt even seem sincere half the time. Also gay people need to stop putting stereo types on gay people. They do it way more than straight people ever did. That's part of the problem with "you don't look gay". There is no specific way of dressing or hairstyle or anything that gay people keep claiming there is with each other.

Family: do you have a boyfriend?
Me: (is bi. Prefers girls though)
      Me: no
Family: you’re right you’re too young. (My 18th birthday when they said that)
Me: (knows people who are 18 or younger who date)
Why can’t they be open minded and think “maybe Abby likes girls” rather than just assuming I like boys. I do like boys but I Love girls. I’m bi with a preference for girls. I couldn’t come out to them because I had my parents with me and they didn't accept me as bi at the time. Only my auntie was supportive at the time but she wasn’t at the event at the time. Months later I had a psychiatrist appointment and she asked if I had a boyfriend or girlfriend. My brain thought “wow is she actually being inclusive? Cool” Then in said no and she asked what I prefers. At the time I said “I like both but gender isn’t important to me. As long as they’re kind and have a really, really, Really good personality then that’s what’s important.” She was supportive. My mum was in the room at the time and surprisingly she didn’t try to stop me from talking about my love for girls. Normally at home she says “no you’re not nice you don’t like girls” but now I think the reason she finally supports me after many years is because she had a chance to listen to me and let me explain. She heard what I said and she didn’t interrupt me this time. My explanation changed mum’s mind on LGBTQ+ and her mind on me. I love how my psychiatrist was supportive instead of just assuming I might be straight. I didn’t have the courage to talk about that stuff to a doctor before. It was nice. I didn’t say much about me being bi to get but at least that was a good start. Why can’t more people be like my doctor? Being inclusive and supportive instead of assuming people are straight. We need more people like my doctor. Next person up for education is my brother. He thinks bi is exactly 50/50. It’s not though. If being bi was a percentage and gay and straight then I would be about 60 or 65% lesbian. I have no hope on trying to explain this stuff to him. Also when I was younger my parents forced me out. They saw some messages I had with an online friend. They asked about it. I had literally nothing else to do but to answer their question. So I told them the truth. And they got mad at me. That was when I was 15. I’m nearly 19 now. So it’s taken an extremely long time to try and get some slight support. My online friends support me. My best friends support me. My auntie supports me. My favourite teachers who are super nice support me. Now I need to try and figure out how to come out to my brother and my older relatives. That’s the next challenge. Ok so I’m bi or maybe pan. With a slight preference for girls. Sorry if that’s confusing. And I needed a psychiatrist because of my ASD + ADHD + Anxiety Also sorry for the extremely long comment.

We just started our RUclips channel because our 5 year old asked why we don’t see more of our families on tv. We love watching other positive lgbtq channels. We truly believe in everything It Gets Better promotes. When I came out at age 19, I didn’t have a vision for what my life would look like. I didn’t know if I had the courage to be my true self. I always wanted a family and I wanted it with a wife. Im starting to realize so many of those dreams coming true and I wish I could tell my younger self to keep focused because it does get better! Thank you for this film! Coming out can be terrifying, but it truly does get better. Your message is powerful and necessary.

This is so relatable and true for those of us apart of the LGBTQ+ community. I hope this continues to be a source of laughter to those who can relate and informative for others! Cinematography was spot on, and what an amazing cast, and script! This is a great short film.

this was such a great film, I loved it! the "leave room for jesus" tho 😂
what I personally do is I always subtly come out to the new people I meet whenever I can. I'm a girl so for example I can slide in a "if I had a girlfriend, I-" in a conversation about dating.

I love this so much! As a straight person, I had no idea that this is really what people in LGBTQ+ go through on a daily basis. It too presumptuous of us to assume everyone is gay without taking others’ sexual orientation and feelings into consideration. Thank you so much for sharing and opening up my eyes. ❤️
