tbh i like both couples, but for me in this scene specifically, it feels more romantic with aerith. i love cloud hugging tifa but cloud reaching out to aerith and his hand phasing through her is just so desparate and romantic. it's kind of reminiscent of yuna running through tidus at the end of ff10 as he's disappearing.
I totally got that vibe too, like she wants to spare cloud from the fate that Yuna suffered even though he is already starting to fall for her...

Even I like Tifa with Cloud as romantic way ,I prefer Aerith's scene.
I've say it once, I'll say it twice.
Tifa is Cloud's first crush/love and even if he cares for her depply he is falling for Aerith at the time of the game.
He seems more comfortable with Tifa, yes, but it's because he has known her for more time. Meanwhile with Aerith he tries to act cool and he gets more nervous when she gets too close. When she is kidnapped, he insist into going and rescue her.
He loves them both but in diferent ways. Love is complicated LOL
He is definitely very comfortable around Aerith. Cloud was talking and teasing her the whole way from the Church to the slums. His conversations with Tifa were nowhere near as comfortable as they were with Aerith. Tifa is obviously Cloud's first love, but he tries to act cool around Tifa and is more comfortable with Aerith.
Cloud has never fallen in love with Aerith, neither in the original nor in the remake. Can I find out where he somehow confesses his feelings to her? Even in the resolution scene, he tells her that her words were one-sided. He tries to play cool with everyone (Tifa, Aerith, Jessie), because his personality has now been deformed under the influence of Jenova cells, which have added a lot of Zack's memories and his patterns of hero behavior. But his heroism does not mean falling in love with Aerith. To go rescue her, in the 12th mission we find the underground Shinra complex, and there Cloud finds the test subjects closed in the pipes, this becomes part of the motivation to help Aerith, as he remembers himself in a similar situation. Cloud is an important friend, but he has never fallen in love with her anywhere, and everywhere he calls her a friend.

The scene with Aerith is heart-wrenching. Putting all the stuff the character would have wanted to say post- the end... Ahhhh this remake is brilliant for those who have played the original. A 10/10 even with a couple cringey moments.

Just look at the difference of the reactions. Cloud was nearly made himself to hug Tifa but when Aerith put her hand back he actually tried to grab it as cobra idk. And the chemistry is obvious.

This scene shows that he loves her , and shows that Aerith knows about what will happen to her , so she TRIES to push Cloud away from her so that he doesn't go crazy later .
@@ricki399 Because it was a different Aerith. Didn't you notice the Lifestream in the sky ? At the end of this scene , Lifestream could be seen taking her back . A very touching scene that just hits the emotions incredibly hard.

Ultimania plus proved the exact opposite. The devs said that Cloud's real self always wanted to be a hero for Tifa, and was happy to be able to hug her. He was just nervous because he had the mental maturity of a 16 year old due spending the last 5 years in a test tube.
The devs also said that Cloud went to grab Aerith's hand out of reflex because he saw her dissappearing. Not because she stopped touching him.
The reason Cloud goes crazy in the OG has nothing to do with Aerith. Even after she died, he was fine. It wasn't until Sephiroth convinced him that he was a clone that he had his mental breakdown, and even then he was the most sorry towards Tifa. Anyways,.Aerith said that even if Cloud thinks he loves her, it's not real. It's because she's from the future and knows who that he really loves Tifa.

The thing is Cloud and Tifa were never childhood friends just neighbors so why Cloti fans say they are meant for each other? It’s fine if you ship them, but don’t lie, The original game confirmed they weren’t Close, Tifa only started thinking about him when he left the village
Yes. It's a misconception that they are childhood friends. They are more like acquaintances that grew up near each other. Tifa was a popular girl and she have her own group of kids she hangs out with while Cloud was an outcast and a loner.
If you bought the original disc of the game it has a book that contain the characters introduction and weapons, vehicles and world introduction it was clearly state that tifa is cloud childhood friend. Imagine following someone let assume they are neighbor to the mountain if you are not friends how creepy is that. And i dont know with western culture but here in asia a girl in her teens won't go meet with you alone at night unless you are at bare minimum friends if not more.

But there is a blank years in between 9- 10 until they reach there teenage year(the promise during the meteor shower night). Asking a favor is something you only do to a friend a close one in fact in japanese culture. And considering the dialogue of the original, cloud have a crush if not in love with tifa during that time. And according to the original and CC considering the effort that tifa did like trying to look to every news paper just to know any information about cloud the feelings is mutual.

Huh? It makes more sense if Aerith knows that Cloud is in love with her and that she doesn’t him be hurt. Furthermore, Cloud’s reaction can be said to deny her request, because he can’t stop loving her.
Between the two possibilities you and I mentioned. Cloud loving Aerith makes more sense, because if Aerith knows he doesn’t really love her, then why would she stop his ‘love’?

You have to remember that cloud is basically zacks ghost early in the adventure. Cloud is not truly in love with her. He took Zacks personality and became someone who he didn't know he was.. Google it.

Imo, Zack’s personality didn’t go to Cloud at all, Cloud only receives Zack’s memories of what he craves for a long time, that is being a really strong Soldier to protect Tifa and Zack’s legacy in combat.

The part where Aerith said Cloud's feelings for her aren't real implies that Cloud inherited Zach's memories and love for Aerith through the Jenova Cell abilities
I think she just knows that Cloud is not himself, and that that makes any potential feelings invalid since the real Cloud loves Tifa.
The Aerith scene comes across as a scene between two potential lovers, while the Tifa scene comes across as two friends interacting. Cloud and Aerith have far more chemistry in my opinion. I'm not saying Cloud doesn't like Tifa, but I think he likes Aerith more.
Their chemistry makes sense since Nomura first created Cloud and Aerith when designing the main characters of FF7. Even their name was chosen to contrast with each other, Aerith (Earth) and Cloud (Sky). Tifa wasn't created until much later after Barret and Red XIII to support Cloud's backstory I think.

I think Tifa and Cloud makes more sense. Cloud is the only remnant of family or friends Tifa has left, sure avalanche are “family” but it’s not the same as Cloud and I think cloud is the only thing keeping her together. She just wants to wait until she can have time to say how she feels. And I think it’s pretty much the same way for Cloud.

I'm fine with Cloud and Tifa as a pairing but Cloud and Aerith outshines them in every way possible.
The hurt in his face when Aerith told him not to fall in love with her, the fact that he asked if he had a say in it. Also Hollow is very clearly about Cloud's feelings about losing Aerith(I would be lost drifting along, floating up high time after time and there you'd be shining brightly, heal every wound and make me whole.)
I'm probably wrong but what if the remake is about Cloud going to a parallel/alternate time line to try to save Aerith? Again some lyrics in the theme song might hint at this

Hard disagree, don't know what scene you watched but I never saw pain on Clouds face during Aeriths resolution, it was a far cry from his expressions when Tifa stood against him, he mostly looked annoyed when Aerith told him not to fall in love, but that's not that relevant.
What is relevant is that Hollow is simply NOT about Aerith, this has been pretty well established.

And the death scene of Aerith, although important to some, and quite popular outside the fandom, inside the story is not the "heart of the story" and has never been such (As the red wedding is not key to the GoT story, although it is one of the most famous scenes outside). Even the authors of the game itself clearly said what for them (Nomura and Kiatse) this is a lifestream scene. And I think this is the culmination and the most important part of the story, as it makes a full disclosure of the essence of the story.
Cloud loses something important, but Aerith is alive, and this is how Nomura said his thoughts. He lost Zack, he thought he had lost Tifa. So they are much more suitable for this role than Aerith, which for his consciousness and thoughts has always been alive.
'this time I will never let you go' - He once thought that he had lost Tifa, and this time he will not lose her.
'with every smile you hide something more' - Tifa is constantly smiling, but the Nibelheim incident is hidden behind her smile. His secret, which will be revealed later.
'when beaten down, when broken up, you would appear and reach out to me, HEAL every wound and make me whole' - Tifa is the only one who does this 2 times in the history of FF7. The first time at the train station, when he is in a limp state, returns to normal when he sees her, and later in the Middle, where she literally nurses him, and later helps him accept himself. Aerith has never done this in the history of FF7. She is not an exclusive healer in the game, everyone who has matter can become a healer in the gameplay. So her support skills don't talk about the essence of the story.
'This time for sure I'll see the truth hidden inside your tears' - Again, the scene of her doubts and secrets about the Nibelheim events.
Suddenly y'all decided to unexpectedly forget who is the character that died and Cloud could've done something to change that if he knew all those secrets - The key phrase is "if he knew" But he doesn't know it, and Aerith is alive. He, according to Ultimania, regards her as a con artist, and is suspicious of her when meeting. So for Cloud's thoughts, she wasn't dead once. And therefore Hollow, which is about Cloud's thoughts, cannot be about Aerith.

I believe that clouds relationship with Aerith will lead to him loving and appreciating Tifa more. Aerith broke down his metaphorical emotional walls, but Tifa goes in his head and literally corrects all his demons.
I think he can love them both... 🤷🏼♀️ the connection with Aerith is so obvious. He was more comfortable and talkative around her, but we all know there’s another reason they were so attracted to each other.. As for Tifa, she is more like the one he is meant for but he is too closed off and confused at this time to truly love her. He needs to first know, love, and lose Aerith to ever really love Tifa. That’s how I see it ☺️ I’ve never chosen one girl over the other because I think they are both great and important to Cloud, but I think in this part of the story Aerith is the main love interest (as she should be)
I'm sorry but we don't all know the reason why they were attracted to each other, since Cloud isn't or haven't Zack's memories. This is a misunderstanding that everyone in this fandom have, it's kinda cringe, Aerith admided that she wanna the real Cloud, means she's not interested into the Zack similitudes anymore, and in the remake it's even more obvious, Cloud is like socially awkward, and Aerith hepls him with that.

Just the opposite. He is most comfortable with Tifa. With Aerith, he is often annoyed. so there is nothing obvious about his attitude towards Aerith. She's a friend to him, and nothing more.

This is repeatedly shown by the accompanying official materials. So his behavior at the beginning is the essence of this influence.
"Aerith admitted that she wants the real Cloud" she didn't say that, she says she wants to find the real Cloud, but she doesn't have time to find him, because she dies before he becomes himself. Secondly, she never said that she loved him more than Zack. These are the fantasies of some idiots who consider Maiden as a canonical source, while this novella is not represented in the list of canonical compilation materials, which includes all the rest of the novellas, from the screenwriter FF7 - Nojima.
The remake shows that she is making her payment (which Cloud did not agree to), and he does not even remember what she promised right away. Also, this payment almost completely repeats her date with Zack, which was not an accident, but a deliberate re-living of the date, since it is Zack that is important to her. The fact that she is trying to change his social qualities is not exclusive, the whole Avalanche did it before her. And they were all successful in this. He changed before her. With Typha, he was immediately more adequate and she is the most important for him in this story.
So tcho Cloud does not behave like that especially with Aerith, I would even note that she often annoys him, which is evident from his behavior. Typhus, on the contrary, most often positively motivates him, and changes him.
First time playing any ff was this maybe could’ve played some when I was younger can’t remember. So soon as I started playing I heard about cloud and Tifa so iam like ok this is his love interest. (We’re going to peruse) Ok but when aerith arrives everything changes idk just felt more real for my character. He opens up so much with her and doesn’t deny or try to hide his feelings for her. So I chose her just fit better to me.

Why people see Tifa as a love interest at all? i don't understand. They are just friends, not even close. Cloud might see Tifa as a childhood crush, but nothing more and never will be more.
I don't care who Cloud ends ups with but leave my tifa baby alone. She's too good for him anyway. I wish second male lead would appear that would rescue tifa that marked her as a childhood friend on the side. Aerith can take Cloud and Zack because tifa deserves better. She's a badass girl that do the saving and not the other way around.
Also, I love the way the remake captured the spirit of the original and can't wait for VII-2 and 3, but the new features of being able to spend more one-on-one time with the gals (Tifa, Aerith, Jessie) makes this feel like a Harem Manga instead of an epic quest to save the planet. LOL

I hope all are realising that square is doing that on purpose to keep the shippers invested in the story? I'm a claerith myself since forever, but after playing the remake, researching etc I can tell that there never will be a resolution unless square makes it absolutely obvious. After reading the comments, there have to be an actual confession in game for that. no pairing was ever confirmed and all we got are hints which can be interpreted any way.
I think the best way to deal with this for square would be to keep it that way with the choices, if Aerith really survives this time. if they make romance a choosable side story, everybody would be happy as they can make their preferable ship happen or let cloud be single.
Cloti has been repeatedly confirmed. More than 17 phrases about the shared feelings between Cloud and Tifa, which they confessed to each other. The main scriptwriter of the story considers Tifa and Cloud in the context of family-love-marriage. Clerith is nothing more than an invention of the players, which does not have any confirmation on the part of Cloud. And it has just contradictions in the form of feelings for another.
@@rnkkhv were is the proof? I played both games several times, trying different routes and I can't confirm that any of the ships are canon. There are hints on either side and it's up to the player which route you choose. You can even choose the single life which still fits. Square will never confirm either ship or they will loose a big group of their fans, so going with the "It's up to the Player" Strategy is the best they could do.
There is no Interview, no ultimania and no hint in either games which confirms any ship. If you ignore both girls it's a friendship at best.

I dont know... I kind of just get this "always happy" or "nothing's wrong" vibe from her. That's kind of what makes this breakdown here sadder. It's almost as if she is bottling up her sadness, even when smiling, and then it sort of just explodes here.
Tifa "smiles" all the time to hide the fact she's hurt. Her scene will Cloud here pretty much broke the facade.

I think its Zacks memories and some of Clouds feelings he started to fall for Aerith, but anyone who says that Cloud doesn't like Tifa or didn't have feelings for Tifa I think your wrong, those 2 are a natural couple they have fantastic chemistry BECAUSE there bestfriends it because they grow up together they know each other so well I know the creators original was to pair Cloud and Aerith, but I'd pick Tifa for her undying loyalty and always wanting to be there for Cloud
Ive seen comments like this about Cloud liking Aerith do to having Zacks “memories.” This isn’t true at all. Cloud doesn’t have his memories and Zacks ghost isn’t living inside of him. Tho Cloud has a long list of mental deterioration, when it comes to Zack, Cloud simply erased him from his mind and replaced any instance he had with him. Anything that Zack did that didn’t involve Cloud, didn’t affect Clouds personality and feelings. That includes Aerith because he never met her before. Making the argument of Cloud only caring for Aerith due to Zack defeats the purpose of Cloud and Aeriths relationship. Aerith is seeing Cloud for who he really is and Cloud is opening up to Aerith
You are wrong, it doesn’t have anything to do with Zack at this point because she was only initially attracted to him because of Zack’s similarities but after a while she liked Cloud for the differences she saw.
Also Cloud doesn’t have Zack’s memories, spirit or anything like that, it’s all a misunderstanding (mainly brought by shippers) Cloud personality issue it will be explained late game but it’s more simpler that inherited memories or soul.

I'm not saying that Zack is talking to cloud In his head but i think because of Zack's memories AND Clouds OWN feelings he began to fall for Aerith. Not to say he doesn't have Feelings for Tifa because he has a crush on her since they were children.
@@tyke2829 It’s mostly the shippers that say that kind of stuff, in Og Cloud himself explains it clearly, he created a fake persona of what he thought a soldier should be (he used Zack as a base) he put himself in Zack shoes during the Nibelheim incident and narrated what he saw Zack accomplish as his own but he never had Zack’s memories, he just was pretending to be a soldier and in a way the protagonist of the Nibelheim incident that’s why every time someone ask him something he doesn’t know or can’t explain his head hurts because he doesn’t have the answer or the memories because it all was a lie he used to cope with his trauma.
My guess would be they say that because they either ship Cloud with Tifa and Aerith with Zack so thinking Cloud had Zack memories makes everything about Cloud and Aerith invalid reinforcing their ship, that’s just my observation though since I have seen this for years and it’s always the shippers say that.
Like this is a no-brainer! It’s Cloud and Aerith- always has been since the very first game! It’s ridiculous how people still consider Tifa as the main love interest when Nomura created this series as a tragic love story between Cloud (the boy of the sky) and Aerith (the girl of the earth). All the promotional posters of the past showcased the two, and Japan is heavily invested in the two; Tifa is just that one childhood friend! If anything, fan pressure later down the years forced the company to make this scenario vague due to irrational outrage if the new fans didn’t get what they wanted!

Both scenes are good, but Cloud was never in love with Aerith. He only shared mutual feelings with Tifa. That's why Aerith says that it's not real. It's only his fake persona, while real Cloud always cared only for Tifa.
It's very touching because they both have lost their homes and parents because of a sociopath. Cloud hugs Tifa so hard that it's hurt because he's hurt. He shares the same pain.
It's crazy with these scenes since Aerith and Cloud has these.. How could I describe it? But Tifa's and Cloud's scenes are a lot more powerful and meaningful and REAL. Even their conversations is on another level and the connection and Cloud keeps Tifa close to him physically and show his feelings in his own way.
Cloud is chit chat and light with Aerith because he reflects with her persona, but with Tifa he opens up about serious matters and his true self comes up. But at the same time, he's flirty with Tifa and light. They did go out with matching outfits, flirting in the bar, jealousy (from both) and all. Cloud even crossdressed for her sake.
They definitely did justice to their relationship.
I just read the Ultimania a few comments above and nomura saif cloud wanted to imitate Barrett in this scene because he saw how Barrett was comforting Tifa earlier :D

@Rheya Ruiz The chemistry he has with Aerith isnt even real, thats one of the huge plot points of the original. She loves Zack and can feel him in Cloud. Clouds personality also changes massively after his mind is repaired.

Zack and Aerith. Tifa and cloud. I liked zack more, he was a cool character and had a great story, shame it’s not highly thought of in the ff universe. But zack and aerith in that game had good chemistry.
Zack and Aerith were good for each other, I'll admit but this story had its seeds implanted on Cloud (Sky) and Aerith (Earth). Zack and Tifa were merely instruments to emphasize the growing love Cloud and Aerith have for each other.

She seems more like a sister based off this scene and pretty much the entire game. Cloud and Aeriths interactions throughout the game come across much more like lovers.

I don't think the game clearly hints at a couple of Cloud and Aerith. Aerith even being in Lifestream rejected Zack, told him that she preferred Cloud. She said she loved Cloud a lot more . And most importantly, she said he was a ladies ' man) The love of Cloud and Aerith even from this scene just shows, I think Cloud would have tried to kiss her if the hand was real and he would have grabbed . I think now that fate has changed .Her hints in this scene that she will die and you can not fall in love may not be relevant .Although relevant , but if you listen to the song about Cloud's feelings for Aerith in the credits , you can hear that he will never let her go again, I hope this is a prophecy
It's nice that in the scene with Tifa, he transcends the feeling of friendship, and this is a romantic hug for him, where he is the one who can save Tifa, and be her hero, as he always wanted. And in the case of Aerith, this is a one-sided premonition of Aerith from the future, and Cloud thinks that it's all one-sided.
MY god, I did not know that you could get Aerith (or Barret). The Aerith scene does not really make sense though :/

@@olivia869 Well, if she knows she gonna die yea but the fact that she does know, make it rather wonky. She does not really have that kind of precognition (yet in the OG) and she also accepts that Cloud is going after her, despite what she says. Regardless the OG does not have romantic scenes so we will not likely get to choose a waifu and this scene is only one of 3 so it is not going to be canon unless they have the balls to make a choice-driven game that carries over from the last. The scene makes more sense if we have the fan theories out there being true but all in all, it is a cute scene.
@@vincentgraymore The Ultimania says it about Aerith's fate, so either she knows it or she feels it. Might be the latter. The remake has made her more powerful, like she knew Sephirot, Marlene and Barret before they were even mentioned. The Ultimania also says that all 3 scenes are non-contradictory. So you getting all 3 scenes works fine. Basically, continuing forward they can take all 3 scenes as canon.
@@PollenAinne Cool, when did Ultimania said this? I have heard a little from ultimania but not about this. Well, it seems to be about her fate but she also tells cloud to go for it, so it is a sad scene in double meaning if she is supposed to know this. Also, Cloud has already shed a tear for her even if he didn't really get it. It is a minor thing to have these scenes canon but it would be a little out of the blue to mention them later on because maybe people only played once. I would assume they would never remember/refer anything said during these because of that. Meaning that I will also assume that Cloud or Aerith will not refer to her saying this, hence it is a little strange to have it in the game in regards to future installments. It is also strange to have the scene to refer to her death because that is not something players "are supposed to know".
So people should be confused as to what/when in time she refers to. If we also add in now that fate is changed/destroyed it makes much less sense but that is something that can be just something she didn't know (or she knows it past destroying Fate). All in all, Aerith should not act like this because she is not supposed to be more powerful but that is up to a remake being different I guess.
If you are unbiased , you would notice that all the three optional scenes point toward Cloti.
The one with Aerith...she tells him that she's not the one for him and what he feels is not real but due to Zack's influence.
The one with Barrett.....Cloud gets jealous when he finds out some guy tried to give Tifa flowers...AND feels very relieved to hear her reply.
The one with Tifa....well it's with Tifa.
Almost like the scenes were put together to hint the audience still struggling to figure out about Cloti. Sad that Clerith fans don't seem to want to listen to what Aerith says, though.

As Clerith fan, we viewed this scene in another way.
Maybe this is not Aerith in this Remake Timeline, it could be Aerith in the OG Timeline. She didn’t want him too suffer and fell guilty over her death which happens in the future. So she said “ Whatever happens, you can fall in love with me”, as you can see her gestures and emotions ( she looks so hurtful).
And Cloud’s face seems like his heart ripped a half after hearing those sentences.
But he still reached out and tried to grab her hands but then realized it’s just an illusion. He didn’t give up and said that “ I’m coming to get you”.
Everyone has their different views to see, you can’t change it. Just like Cloti fans and Clerith fans never get along well so much.
Anyway, as Clerith shipper, I respect your view and just want to let you know my view in this too!

@@elemoi9986 I do like the scene between Cloud and Aerith and I also admit that they both definitely have feelings for each other at this point. But we also know that Cloud's personality is heavily influenced by Zack's.
What's heartbreaking is that Cloud has to feel these emotions which are not entirely his only for them to be snatched away later in the story.
Believe me when I say that I didn't even know of Tifa's role in the story before. I shipped Clerith too. But when I saw the entire storyline I realised that it wasn't meant to be. It WAS Tifa though...she was there for him and watching over him throughout the game..right from the start (which is only being confirmed in the Remake).
Their relationship however at this point is ambiguous as it is part of the twist which will be revealed much later in the story. (Cloud's confession in the lifestream really took me by surprise. I never would've guessed he harboured feelings for Tifa)
That's when we as players realise that Clerith was never meant to be. It was Cloti all along.

The Tifa scene literally mentions Aerith in between because of how insecure Tifa is about her, on the Aerith scene things are only between Cloud and Aerith, but yeah, everyone is biased unless we shove Tifa in a conversation that's about Aerith's fate as a Cetra confirmed by the devs, sure

Nah it makes sense. Especially because i think Aerith has visions of the future. She and the games cutscenes constantly indicate she knows what the original games destiny/fate is and that she knows so much more than she is letting on. Things like cloud falling in love with her, or her death being imminent (you can't fall in love with me) as the old game is still Canon with the way they worked the story in this one. I think sephiroth and jenova became a part of the planet at the edge of creation in the og game, hence how he survived and kadaj and the rest of sephoroths remnants + geostigma came to be in advent children. Sephiroth is somehow tugging at the strings of fate because of the power he gained in the crater, imbuing himself with the life stream. Even though his physical form was killed he clearly transcended in a way that allowed him to try changing destiny by altering a timeline. I think Aerith is aware of all this, Cetra powers at work, lifestream showing her.
Also the visions Cloud has makes sense canonically too. Think about the original game when Aerith appeared to Cloud as a dream apparition in the forest outside the city of the ancients just before her death. She's a half-blooded Cetra and has all kinds of weird powers.
I think Tifas bond over shared trauma is unhealthy in comparison to the healthy variation aeriths bond has. Old lore ships them both but aerith just gets assassinated so tifa gets the mantle. If im going to theorize on fictional characters, I personally think Cloud genuinely loved Aerith more and when she died he had noone else as close as a romantic option other than Tifa. Tifa knows this i think but they still love eachother. Its a love triangle trope, where only tragedy brings about a resolution.
The og game noone really wins, humanity goes extinct, sephiroth dies and doesn't get to ride the cosmos using the planet as a vessel. Everyone loses, even if cloud and the gang win temporarily. I think Aerith is trying to pull the strings of fate in her own way, which is what the ending to the Remake was about. Its clear sephiroth is able to alter fate but only wants to do so slightly. Where he doesnt lose in the crater. Either way we are only 1/3rd into the new timeline's story and will see what becomes of the love triangle in this iteration.
Aerith is an incredible character. In only 3 dats she had more influence on Cloud than Tifa in 7 years
True but people grow stronger connections in trying times. A week can be different when you are saving each other and other lives and fulfilling an important purpose. Plus it’s Cloud’s very first time ever opening up and learning to love

He just met Aerith hours ago and spent the majority of that time being annoyed with her.

if he had truly been annoyed with her he wouldn't have agreed to her proposition, would not have told the flowers off, would have ditched her in the playground, wouldn't have struggled to say goodbye, wouldn't have offered to accompany her home again, and he wouldn't be so resolute in saving her (this scene is his resolution scene... no aerith's).
i definitely think he'd felt something for her. that's why he'd looked so hurt when aerith told him not to fall in love with her and that "it wasn't real". coupled with aerith's "i'm searching for the real you..." cloud's resolution scene is indeed setting something up.
