    Dang it! That Rav4 looks a little neglected for under 50k miles. I chang
    e the oil in my 2021Rav4 every 5k miles. I also use Mobil 1 oil and filters. So far no problems at all and it rides like brand new at 66k miles. Good video tutorial.

      The neglected look is because I live on a dirt road and hash winter climates. The RAV4 in this video has since been turned in on lease, and we loved it so much that we decided to get a brand new RAV4 identical to it, but one trim level up XLE.
      I took a good look at the top of the pistons through the spark plug holes at the 40,000 mile mark on the ‘21 RAV4 before turning it in, I would recommend changing the oil more often than Toyota recommends (go with 3-5k miles not their 10k). I’d also recommend running only 87 octane because that’s what Toyotas are tuned for from the factory, but this octane can also lead to a bit of carbon buildup, so I’d recommend either seafoam, Lucas, or marvel mystery oil treatments along the way to keep things clean internally.

    I'm a tool freak. Love the tools. Maybe not necessary, but can in many situations save the day or make life easier. Personally wouldn't recommend 12 pt. sockets or wrenches when initially breaking loose. Six pt to break loose. Appreciate the video. Thanks

      I do agree, 6 point is better but a drain plug shouldn’t cause a struggle (in a perfect world). I think the only 12 point I may have shown was the magnetic socket which is actually for “spark plugs” but I use it other applications when magnets help.
      Cheers, thanks for watching 👍

    The taller filter might be difficult to install/remove due to the placement of the oil filter (sideways close to the engine).

      Good thought there. Toyota didn’t give a whole lot of space around the oil filter. Amazes me sometimes that auto manufactures crowd that area.

    I have a Rav4, I normally drive it about 6k miles per year. Should I replace the oil every 12 months or 6 months ?

    • @TorqueAndTwisted
      @TorqueAndTwisted  3 месяца назад +2

      6 months. The reason is oxidation, even if you drove 1 mile every year the oil would need changed every 6 months

    Never walk away from a loose drain plug,have your wrench ready. People get distracted and forget to tighten the plug!

      I had a buddy who’s car burned to the ground about 3 miles after an oil change because the quick lube forgot to put drain plug back in…

    Waste of good oil to prefill a horizonally mounted filter,dry start is a myth. But you do you!

      I don’t see how there’s waste if putting oil in the filter? I’m putting the same amount of total oil requires in the car either way.

      @TorqueAndTwisted There's a video by Lake Speed Jr. On RUclips that shows that prefilling the oil filter actually prevents wear. He actually shows what it does to an engine. So I will continue to prefill my filter

    Mobil1 is much cheaper, if you buy a 5 qt jug.

      Yes, sometimes it is…depends on what store and what sale. 0W-16 isn’t easy to find so I buy it however they got it at the time

    friend, don't put that mobil 1 oil in it, put the original toyota oil in it, it's the best

    • @TorqueAndTwisted

      The Toyota oil doesn’t test as well and in my personal experience with this car, it runs better with Mobil 1 versus the Toyota oil.

    • @poitevienphilip

      @@TorqueAndTwisted The test is verified with the original Toyota oil, the gasoline saving is great and with Mobil 1 it is not the same. I did my test with a hybrid Toyota.

      You do you. Me do me. My '21 Rav4 (gas only version) gets better mpg and runs quieter with Mobil 1 vs Toyota oil.

      Toyota original oil is by Mobil One 😊

    No thanks to the Mobil oil. One of the things that will void my warranty. And give them an excuse not to repair any problems. You ruined your engine by not using the oil that is prescribed for this car. Is what they would tell me. The first thing I asked when I bought the car. What will void my warranty..

    • @TorqueAndTwisted
      @TorqueAndTwisted  4 месяца назад +1

      I’m sorry, but your opinion is completely false based on facts
      Do you know who makes Toyota oil? … Mobil
      Have I ruined any Engine putting Mobil oil in it? No.
      Does Mobil oil automatically void warranty? No.
      Does Mobil make good oil? Yes. Do they likely make a really good oil for your car? Yes.
      If you’re basing this all off of what a dealership employee told you, I’d suggest you go at least talk to a service manager. They know the most about “right to repair” laws and what will void your warranty. I’m doubting using the proper rated oil from any reputable brand is a warranty voiding situation unless you’re in some type of exotic car that requires exotic fluids.
