You should do a part two with children's spells and abilities, and maybe buy a House in Magic Town. Did you know that there is magic wine and a magic cake that you can make or that you can enchant other things besides gnomes? There are also some things in Makin' Magic that you can only use if you have other expansions (like the dog to human spell if you have Unleashed). P.S. Buy the mushroom chair!

I didnt know it was the last expansion! I do wonder that too. Like I mentioned in the video, that beanstalk thing took forever. Off camera I had me and 'hi', my 2nd sim, spamming teleport for 8 real hours just to get up there. It's super difficult to do but such an awesome hidden thing in the game! I agree! The fun, quirkiness, and aesthetic of Sims 1 is unmatched! I feel like 2 did a decent job at trying to be quirky and fun but Sims 1 takes it by a mile!
Loved the video! How I miss this series. You didn't mention the pet dragons. You get the dragon eggs in Magic Town. Wait for it to hatch. If you get a purple dragon they actually leave a magic ingredient you use in spells as well. Kids also do magic as well. And if you make baking goods you can make stuff with magic ingredients 😊.
The fact you got the teleport crystal first is insane 😮 I got it last after having thought the crystals are just useless bs, never realizing i could at some point teleport like the NPCs like Mara. I kept teleporting thereafter even if i wanted to go just one square away 😛

Have you tried the duel? It has awesome animations.... I had written down all the winning combinations... the colored bubbles on each side represent which spells each duelist can use, so I always paused to plan them out Edit: some ingredients can only be collected by kids and having a pet dragon is worth a video on its own ❤

I hadn't played The Sims 1 since like 2004 until i recently revisited it. There's so much more depth and content to the game than i remember and the amount of new stuff i'm coming across is pretty crazy, just as much depth as the later games and i've played them all. Even with nostalgia aside i think this is the best Sims personally.

Me too, here from reddit! I think the reason making magic wasn’t peoples favourite or knowing how it works is it was the last expansion plus sims 2 had come out shortly after, or younger players had aged out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a huge sims fan, and I did buy makin magic back in the day and installed it, but unlike superstar, I hardly played it. I was a teen now and spending less time on the sims (would definitely come back to it over the years). So I literally knew none of this! I’m just glad my brother got into the game (he made a list of all the magic dueling - and I had no idea what he was doing!) because I basically never got into the magic stuff and my disc copy was basically just to complete my collection. Now with the complete collection I downloaded, I am only now in 2024 finally exploring my magic sim and what she can do, and the magical items etc. I was floored about how much I do not know about! The vendors having little tasks, how there are spells AND charms. Then I watch your video and there’s just so much more! The gnomes!!! Like wtf, I never would have thought to do that, I had never seen that before, the Easter egg I have heard of. What a feat from the sims 1 dev team, and I’m sure many like us overlooked at the time.
Makin' Magic was THE one expansion pack I studied thoroughly back in the day.... THOROUGHLY. Everything about it I love. Magical plants/crystals grow faster in Magic Town residential---like two sim days faster than regular neighborhoods. Also, when sims speak when castings spells there will always misfire---literally. Raise your dragons a certain way, and they will have different tempermants. And they love eating tulips. Also, MM was the reason why I never got back into playing the Sims until Sim 4 became free, because I thought it was stupid they never made the Gnomes come to life since S1. They're my favorite, and should be an occult option in S4.

I’ve known about the beanstalk easter egg since back in the day, but I’ve never had a beanstalk grow tall enough to access it in the near 20 years since the expansion’s release. I think I may have, at one point, swapped the beanstalk lot file for one of my residential lots just so that I could finally see the easter egg for myself (and then swap back), but that is as close as I’ve ever gotten to experiencing it. Perhaps it’s finally time to pursue it once more for realzies.
You should try it it out just to experience it for real! Be warned though, it is NOT quick and easy! but my lot was LOADED with magical objects, my 'room' meter was at max any time I went outside!
Love your videos - have you ever considered doing a multi-part series focused around a specific theme or challenge? I know I enjoy getting invested in longer-term stuff like that. Just an idea!

what a cool video! This is my favorite Sims expansion, discovered it when I was 8, gives me so much nostalgia. But you know, for some weird reason I never got any crystals on my lot although I used to spend hours and hours casting spells and all of that. That might be because in my country at that time they only sold pirate CD copies of the game... jealous that everyone gets the crystals and I don't! haha
Thank you! I know I didnt mention it in the video, I meant to, this is my new favorite expansion! It is THAT good! I do wonder if those pirated versions allowed for crystals to grow too! Here is something I learned, to put things in perspective: I looked this up online after filming this video, but a person has to cast 15 spells in order to grow a new beanstalk, tree sapling, plant, or colored crystal. It is 100% random what is grown, and the odds become even more slim when stuff starts to grow because then you have a chance at growing the thing you grew by 1, rather than growing a crystal or etc. Beanstalks I think can grow 10 times before theyre climbable, I think. At one point, I have over 10 beanstalks. This took forever for me to do. One thing I didnt make super clear in the video, but I had me and my pet 'Hi' that turned human literally spam casting 'teleport' around our lot for 8 hours. 8 REAL hours just to climb the beanstalk! It took 2 sims to do that!! So maybe you did cast a ton of spells, but 15 need to be cast for just 1 growth of 1 thing to occur. You may have cast over a hundred spells (which is a lot) and only got unlucky and had a beanstalk grow a few times and a sapling or two appear

I never played making magic but it looked fun. I miss all the goofy stuff in the old games. Sims 3 supernatural is pretty fun. You can learn spells/potions and there are a bunch of different supernatural beings you can play as.
I miss the goofy stuff too! That's where ALL of that Sims charm was at! And what made these games special! I'll have to look into Sims 3 supernatural. That sounds like that might be a fun one to cover. :)
yeah you know how to get to that can of beans? the damn beanstalk lol sometimes you'll find a giant will wright up there. i think thats how you get the beans though besides the bean seller cart. well it doesn't just sell beans it sells a few charm ingredients but yeah. ive been playing sims since it first came out when i was 11 and makin magic was prob my fav expansion. that and vacation.
