I love this film! I discovered it after buying it for my Dad who's disabled, after becoming his carer. He'd watch it so many times, and I really got into it. It's really not something I'd normally watch, but we'd watch it together, and it means it so much.
Doris's dancing career was supposedly cut short from an accident when she was younger, but you wouldn't know it here. She's terrif! And Gene Nelson is the "end!" Thanks for sharing.
I love Doris & Gene! Adorable! Great looking! Great singing & dancing! Those great smiles can make anyone fell better if not great. Two happy people with huge happy energy! Thank you for all the movies I can keep enjoying you in!
I always thought it was a shame that Doris Day didn't dance more. She did dozens of movies, but there are only a few proper dance scenes. She was very graceful.
Love this scene, Doris really shows off her singing and dancing especially in this film, absolutly love it! people do not sing or dance like this anymore or ever will again sadly :( Doris Day will always be unique, nobody can match that voice, and Gene Nelson is an awesome dancer!
A lovely sequence from LULLABY OF BROADWAY that proved Doris Day was as good a dancer as she was a singer and actress. A true shame she was never given an Honorary Academy Award for her contributions to the medium of film.
Doris was so multi talented I have enjoyed her music , movies and the Doris Day show since I was a kid. Her older musicals with Gordon MacRae, Gene Nelson. Doris had so many leading men. Most are with her in heaven now.
I became so happy after seeing this scene. First of all for Doris dancing, tapping and acting. She was awesome. And opposite there was Gene Nekson, perfect. And they know how was to dance. Today they do gimnastics and think they are dancing.
Doris Day dances beautifully in this sequence - - she then goes on to sing somebody loves me ... exactly as it should be sung, her acting ability is also seen-
It's s sad that such a lovely woman as Doris Day never had a decent husband. Her first husband beat the crap out of her all the time. The man she was married to the longest and with whom she had her only child, stole most of her money. She deserved so much better.
Wow, I had no idea that this song could be so jolly and cheerful and chipper! I’ve only ever heard slow versions of it, sung by torch singers. Played at a sadder tempo, the lyrics really are sad ones. But in this version they didn’t seem sad at all😂
She was a trained dancer. She studied dance in her youth. She gave it up when for whatever reason I can't quite recall she almost lost her leg she came very close to having it amputated. After that ordeal she pursued singing and became a big band singer and an actress.
Fantastic! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cannot believe how beautiful Doris Day's voice was, and Gene Nelson could sing too! Hard to believe he is Curly from Oklahoma!. What a great performer. I would take him over Astair or Kelly any day. He was better looking than either and could sing better too. I am developing a crush on him I think.
I admire Gene as well a Donald O'Connor. Still, as good as he was singing 'Kansas City'; 'All 'er Nothin', etc., as Will Parker, I am not too sure that his voice in this number was not dubbed by someone else, perhaps even Jack Smith (who plated alongside Doris and Gordon MacRae in 'On Moonlight Bay').
Gene Nelson was Will Parker in Oklahoma, not Curly. He did his own singing in Oklahoma, but in Lullaby of Broadway, his voice was dubbed. He had a perfectly fine singing voice, and I can't figure out why they would ever dub him.
What a woman!! My childhood crush. And it sure would be nice to know, if there are other dimensions, that in a few of them, we were the same age and she was my wife!
Doris Day, born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, passed away at the age of 97 on May 13th, 2019 in Carmel Valley, California... She had five #1 records; "Sentimental Journey", with Les Brown, {for 9 weeks in 1945}, "My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time", with Les Brown, {for 7 weeks in 1945}, "Love Somebody", with Buddy Clark, {for 5 weeks in 1948}, "A Guy Is A Guy" {for 1 week in 1952}, and "Secret Love" {for 4 weeks in 1954}... And just missed having three more #1 records when her "It's Magic" {1948}, "Again" {1949}, and "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" {1956} all peaked at position #2... Ms. Day was referred to in two #1 records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham! {1984} and "We Didn't Start The Fire " by Billy Joel {1989}... And her name was also mentioned in four uncharted records, "La De Da" by Ringo Starr {1999}, 'Dig It" by the Beatles {1970}, "Dirty Epic" by Underworld {1994}, and "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" from the musical 'Grease' {1978}... May she R.I.P.
I never saw this before as a take-off of Groucho and Harpo Marx's shtick in "Duck Soup." It is a funny piece of shtick, no matter who does it. One sometimes wishes present day sitcom writers would repeat these ancient comedy routines in their programs to remind the audience of just how timeless and effective this kind of comedy is. Lucille Ball reprised the shtick with Harpo Marx in one of her programs, and it was still funny.
It was from Lullaby of Broadway, and he danced to "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart". ruclips.net/video/fjtW5fdNNYE/видео.html His singing voice is dubbed by Hal Derwin, but I'll never understand why, as Gene had a very nice singing voice.
Easy to see why Bob Hope kidded Doris- in a good-natured way- about her rear end. She shows it off here, and repeatedly throughout her career, even in television much later. Not that I'm complaining!
Well, DD the All American Girl was no Rita Hayworth or Ginger Rogers, but as always with her it's a nice and friendly scene, with DD as a sorprsingly good dancer.
Most of us look up these clips to enjoy the particular performances and/or performers. Do not understand how it is that some find it necessary to turn our enjoyment into competitions regarding greater or lesser talent. Am not aware that anyone watching clips where Rita or Ms. Grable sing comments their not being able to do so as well as DD or any other professional vocalist.
DD was CERTAINLY light years ahead of Ginger Roger's, she COULD NOT tap dance! When Ginger was tap dancing with Fred, Hermes Pan would fill in the second taps off screen. Ginger would fake the taps.
tamara simple said "....and Gene Nelson could sing too! Hard to believe he is Curly from Oklahoma!.". That's because he wasn't Curly. He was Will Parker.
Somebody loves me, I wonder who I wonder who he can be Somebody needs me, I wish I knew Who can he be worries me To every boy that passes by, I shout 'Hey, maybe' You were meant to be my loving baby Somebody loves me, I wonder who Maybe it's you Oh when this world began, it was heaven's plan There should be a girl for every single man So I'm clutching at straws, just because I may find my man Somebody loves me, I wonder who I wonder who he can be Somebody needs me, I wish I knew Who can he be worries me For every boy who passes by, I shout 'Hey, maybe' You were meant to be my loving baby, maybe Somebody loves me loves me, I wonder who Maybe, baby Oh baby maybe it's you
This is called the era of Quality......and yes, everything was better especially singing and dancing.
Doris Day. Was there nothing she could not do? She was America itself.
I love this film! I discovered it after buying it for my Dad who's disabled, after becoming his carer. He'd watch it so many times, and I really got into it. It's really not something I'd normally watch, but we'd watch it together, and it means it so much.
I did the same thing with my parents when I was their caregiver. Those memories are priceless.

How could their tap dance routine at the beginning not bring a smile to your face?
She could sing, dance, act, and be a beautiful person to boot -- she could do it all!
M.J. Leger yes, the whole deal!
Agreed! Doris 🇺🇲🇬🇧🐶🐵
So Compassionate
Pure Talent
Doris Day ... pure talent and beauty ...
That kind of old movies always make me smile, wonderful!
Love this scene, Doris really shows off her singing and dancing especially in this film, absolutly love it! people do not sing or dance like this anymore or ever will again sadly :( Doris Day will always be unique, nobody can match that voice, and Gene Nelson is an awesome dancer!
Sad really , I so agree !!! We are fortunate that kind people share these film clips on you tube , so that we can go back to once upon a happy time .
May 13, 2019.
You were quite the talented lady, Doris!
It’s your time to rest. Rest in peace, Doris💕💕✝️
This is a great scene. Sheer delight to watch Doris Day and Gene Nelson sing and dance so beautifully.
Boy I could watch Doris sing and dance and perform all day long. She is so naturally beautiful and her voice is so pure and angelic 🥰
Doris Day, a bundle of Talent. Happy 90th.
A lovely sequence from LULLABY OF BROADWAY that proved Doris Day was as good a dancer as she was a singer and actress. A true shame she was never given an Honorary Academy Award for her contributions to the medium of film.
It's even worse that she didn't win Best Actress for "Love Me Or Leave Me" in 1955.
@@lemorab1 she wasn’t even nominated.
Doris was so multi talented I have enjoyed her music , movies and the Doris Day show since I was a kid. Her older musicals with Gordon MacRae, Gene Nelson. Doris had so many leading men. Most are with her in heaven now.
YOU WILL FOREVER BE IN MY HEART YOU BROUGHT SUCH JOY TO US ALL GOD BLESS AND R.I.P
Excellent for a gal who, after nearly losing a leg, gave up dancing in her youth!
Wow! I didn't know the very talented Doris Day could dance like that! I guess you learn 'stuff' in time, even for an oldie (73) such as myself.
SOOOOO TALENTED. DORIS DAY WHAT A LEGEND. X
Era uma artista completa. Grande estrela do cinema!😍😍💕
Such clever choreography! Reminds me of the mirror sequence in Duck Soup. 💃🏼 🦆 🕺🏻
This is just totally enjoyable. Maximum Kool!
I love Miss Day. She is wonderful. God bless her.
Makes me feel like dancing. Bravo
If only they could make them this way again!
We miss you so much Love Doris Day
One of my favorite movies of her!!!!
Can't get this wonderful time ours my head. Live Doris Day
Delightful. Doris could do it all.

Doris Day that was great dancing
Luv this...
I Met Meriam Nelson who was Married to Gene and helped Doris Tap Dance backwards down a Stairwell! In Carmel!
It's s sad that such a lovely woman as Doris Day never had a decent husband. Her first husband beat the crap out of her all the time. The man she was married to the longest and with whom she had her only child, stole most of her money. She deserved so much better.
She's still alive
Only in our hearts.💕
she had her only son with her first husband but her third (i think) legally adopted him. her sons name is Terry
David James she’s dead
She deserves someone better😭😭😭❤️❤️
Wow, I had no idea that this song could be so jolly and cheerful and chipper! I’ve only ever heard slow versions of it, sung by torch singers. Played at a sadder tempo, the lyrics really are sad ones. But in this version they didn’t seem sad at all😂
Her voice is like a buttercup.
Gene Nelson, great dancer .
Doris's outfit would look great today.
Beautiful
Love this scene!
Wunderbar, eine großartige Sängerin ❤
""Didn't know that she could ''tap''l like that what a legend a real triple threat 👏👏👏👏.....✨💖 her ✨✨✨!!!!!!""
She was a trained dancer. She studied dance in her youth. She gave it up when for whatever reason I can't quite recall she almost lost her leg she came very close to having it amputated. After that ordeal she pursued singing and became a big band singer and an actress.

Wow, I didn’t know she tapped dance
What a woman!! My childhood crush. And it sure would be nice to know, if there are other dimensions, that in a few of them, we were the same age and she was my wife!

When people actually had talent
Better than these idiot TikTokers

Cincinnati best dance sing what talent
👍👍👍👍👍👋❤
I miss Gene Nelson's sublime leap onto the piano top - it must be another song but I could swear it was here.
It was "Lullabye of Broadway"
Sorry, this is "Lullabye." Maybe it was "Tea for Two"
Look up the 'You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me' number with Doris in a later sequence.
Not it, no leap on the piano.
"You are not authorized to open this file." is all I get when trying to watch a Doris Day video? Strange. Only on an iPhone, maybe.
The first time I heard music like this I was fighting off super mutants. Now I can't get enough it seems.
😃

How can you compare any of them? Not one is better than the other. They all had their talent and beauty.
tamara simple said "....and Gene Nelson could sing too! Hard to believe he is Curly from Oklahoma!.". That's because he wasn't Curly. He was Will Parker.
Somebody loves me, I wonder who
I wonder who he can be
Somebody needs me, I wish I knew
Who can he be worries me
To every boy that passes by, I shout 'Hey, maybe'
You were meant to be my loving baby
Somebody loves me, I wonder who
Maybe it's you
Oh when this world began, it was heaven's plan
There should be a girl for every single man
So I'm clutching at straws, just because
I may find my man
Somebody loves me, I wonder who
I wonder who he can be
Somebody needs me, I wish I knew
Who can he be worries me
For every boy who passes by, I shout 'Hey, maybe'
You were meant to be my loving baby, maybe
Somebody loves me loves me, I wonder who
Maybe, baby
Oh baby maybe it's you
C’est moi Justin
OMG, Doris’ costume is awful. Too bad, it’s a good number.
Was she pregnant or merely overweight when she appeared in this film?
dallaskenn, no she was not pregnant and she certainly was not overweight.
WHAT?!! How was she in ANY way "overweight" here?!
Jealous much
