A stable lamp is lighted Whose glow shall wake the sky;
The stars shall bend their voices, And every stone shall cry.
And every stone shall cry, And straw like gold will shine;
A barn shall harbor heaven, A stall become a shrine.
This child through David's city Shall ride in triumph by; The palm shall strew its branches, And every stone shall cry.
And every stone shall cry, Though heavy, dull, and dumb,
And lie within the roadway to pave his kingdom come.
Yet he shall be forsaken, And yielded up to die;
The sky shall groan and darken, And every stone shall cry.
And every stone shall cry, For stony hearts of men: God's blood upon the spearhead, God's love refused again.
But now, as at the ending, The low is lifted high;
The stars shall bend their voices, And every stone shall cry.
And every stone shall cry, In praises of the Child
By whose descent among us The worlds are reconciled.
-Richard Wilbur
The tempo places us in awe and reverence of the holiness of Jesus 's birth. The harmony of beautiful voices, and the growing foundation of the pipe organ brings crescendo of joyful tidings. Thank you.
Absolutely beautiful hymn
Unique words!
I heard this hymn sung by the choir in my Episcopal church this morning. I was struck still by the haunting melody and the poetic words. Then I found out the words were written by Richard Wilbur, former poet laureate and my freshman poetry professor many years ago. Listen...it is hauntingly beautiful.
A beautiful song beautifully sung. It is hauntingly devotional which any good hymn should be. Very nice cinematography and orchestration played by skilled musicians.
What a beautiful setting for the sounds of the season. The Georgia Boy Choir sounds so wonderful with this arrangement of A Stable Lamp is Lighted.
A wonderful anthem, with a perfect matching of words and music.
A beautiful, deeply felt performance.
Wow. Great lyrics, singing, and instrumentation all in one. And the last verse brings joy to every believer's heart.
Well sung,a beautiful rendition.
So nice to see a representation of diversity in the choir. A very slow hymn (maybe a little too slow) but nonetheless, sung nicely by the young men. Beautiful sanctuary and pipe organ in this mainline Protestant church.
I love seeing the boys of all ages and all ethnicities. The Georgia Boy Choir strives to open it's doors to boys of all backgrounds, that's one of the great attributes of the choir that I love so much.
That's beautiful, and it is what it should be. I'm a member of a diverse church community that strives to serve all God's people; barring none due to human constructs. It never fails to amaze me how many congregations consist of one ethnic/racial group. I've uploaded many videos from my church services. I invite you to take a look. Peace.
