4:25 the irony in talking about irradiated Fallout lakes while showing a picture of an explicitly clean lake that the NCR Army at Camp Golf (whose watch towers are visible, identifying this as Lake Las Vegas) get their water from... I love it, unintentional or not.
When me and my friend realized there was a secret room under the outhouse that seemed to be impossible to get to, we dropped a flashlight down there, and had one of us lower a camera while the other would watch and see if anything was down there. Good times.
deadass this is kinda inspiring, ive been trying my hand at these kinds of videos for awhile and seeing someone actually do well with them gives me a lot more hope, hell maybe we could even work together on something sometime :)
I liked to explore these types of maps when I was a kid. There was another really good one similar to this that i think predates it, that had a place called sandy shades, a vault, and i think the military base from fallout 1. I wish I remembered the name, it would be cool to see you show off that one too
I still remember when this map first came out, It was shortly after I had first gotten into GMod. It holds up extremely well. It was really impressive to see something with that level of polish and visual coherance, there wasn't much to compare it to as far as custom maps go, and where visually interesting full-grid maps were a novelty. This was back in an era where even gm_bigcity would cause many people frame dips. I was never much a multiplayer kinda person but It did see quite a bit of time from me messing around, and It ended up proving useful shortly after in a GMod video. This was well put together! I'd love to see more individual map showcases like this.

Pretty good tour my dude aswell as the editing but I greatly do remember playing on this map alot back when I first got into Gmod and I'm happy to see people remember playing on this map aswell 😄
this video is amazing! great breakdown of the map with detailed info, and the background info is incredibly valuable insight! i played a bit of darkrp several years back and had some fun, though i always felt in over my head, but this brings up some memories haha. the info included about darkrp regarding this map is what rly makes this video unique - only someone who really played this map could give that. very clean piece of documentary on a classic gmod map!
This and Bigwig's bigcity and buttes maps were commonplace on the ACF servers I frequented. For Atomic, one of those servers would have Mad Max themed events, so I took a 1950s style sedan I made, turned it into a monster truck covered in spikes and improvised armor, and put a 75(?)mm howitzer and machine guns on it, plus a skull on the steering wheel for good measure. Led raids on the shanty town, and forts set up at the oil tanks and the gas station. Fun memories.
Lol, I remember wanting to play this map as a kid but it required Episode 1 & 2. That's when I learned you could download all the assets from CSS and the Episodes from an unofficial site and put them into Gmod. This was the first map I played, then I proceeded to go on a downloading spree of all the maps I wanted to play but required CSS.
Man, I love Atomic. I got some great memories there from when I was younger. Me and my pals used to always roleplay that a nuke went off and we hid in the gas station. One of the first maps I downloaded.
Me and a friend of mine always spawn aa guns, artillery cannons and rebels with aks and try to defend the bunker from combine soldiers and gunships. Its fun.
OKAY Richter this map is cool and all but I'm trying to find another one from the same time that was a representation of Fallout 1. It had Sandy Shades complete with the cannibal in the well, a vault, and an underground military base. One of them was connected to an outhouse I think... I'm going nuts here it was like something desert v2...
Fun fact, my most favorite (we'll say "retro") map for gmod, phys_house, is nearly on it's 15th birthday. Plenty of older hl2:dm maps turned gmod maps and some others meant for zombie survival are nearing 12 years and older.
I never knew I actually saw gm_bigcity before, but I had heard of it multiple times from one of my steam friends basically only playing on it while playing gmod. Hilariously, I'm pretty sure the first time I saw it was before I got Garry's Mod, and in a TF2 video.
I like gm_atomic. It was the first map where I worked for many hours decorating some of the areas to make them seem like they were lived in by post-apocalypse survivors. Sadly, lost that save when I accidentally deleted it.
