Killer Mike is a wise man speaking truth to power, both through his music and in everyday conversations and activism. I hope people listen, contemplate and act. His latest album RTJ4 should be album of the year. It is powerful and important, especially in these crazy times. I hope he doesn't stop making music, but I also hope he takes this platform and runs for office some day.

When will you become tired of your slavery and show the same by stepping boldly into the arena with those who declare that "Not to be a slave is to dare and DO?" When will you tire of such a civilization and declare in words, the bitterness of which shall not be mistaken, "Away with a civilization that thus degrades me; it is not worth the saving?"

I appreciate your assessment of the psychological underpinnings of police violence. That aggressive hunter mentality seems to not only be allowed into police forces but in many places seems to be selected for specifically in the recruitment process. In many ways, it seems appropriate that the military would select for this trait since, as you said, they are meant to be mobilized against credible threats. Their training process reinforces it justifiably. The problem comes when we extend the same selection and training to police forces that are meant to serve and protect, not to search and destroy.

He is a blend between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois.
While I appreciate the ethic of Bernie Sanders and helping the poor, one cannot deny the free rider problem. The way Sweden manages the free rider problem is by having a common culture among its citizens.
Does America have a common culture between its citizens? Does Killer Mike advocate for a common culture? The answer to both of those questions is “no.” It is more accurate to say that not only does America have many cultures within it, but that many people actually advocate that America be multi-cultural. Given that, how can Killer Mike’s/Bernie Sanders’ federal welfare program work? It cannot.
Where communities have a common culture, they can establish their own welfare programs... because they have to make those programs work within the constraints of the economic results a given community’s culture creates. That is exactly what Sweden does.

Along the line of what Killer Mike was saying about social conscious rappers stepping up on a local level, I’d love to see some rappers who own record labels transforming their structure into a worker-owned cooperative, to share the profits and capital among all the workers in those organizations and democratizing power in the workplace. Just a thought, but overall a good conversation.

At this point, however, a clear, unprecedented mass #DemExit is the only way to bring down the Democrat party establishment and make way for progressive social and economic policy. It should be glaring in the face of every non-Republican at this point that the party is not capable of reforming itself, and that progressives get chewed up in the party machine, then spit out as neoliberal shills.
