- An episode of The Whisk(e)y Vault hosted at Whisky Marketing School in Austin, TX.
Today we talk about Gentleman Jack from the Jack Daniels Distillery.
I still love how they sniff a glass of whiskey and get an oaky cherry cinnamon vanilla french bread tone I sniff a glass Im like Im geting a definite alcohol tone!!
Same. I think all the flavor stuff is total bullshit.
@@usthem7172 🤣
@@usthem7172 It's all a matter of getting used to it.
When I first drank whiskey it was pure alcohol in the smell and taste, but nowadays I can pick out a lot.
@@usthem7172 My girlfriend just turned 21, and she says all 40% alcohol smeels like nail polish. Granted she doesn't drink at all. You're probably still drinking the bud light. I don't get all the different smeels that they get... I get 1-2 things max can smell from a whiskey, but it's subjective XD don't hate that you can't smell past the alcohol. If anything you probably have your nose too close to the glass!
Add a little water you’ll smell and taste more but lower the proof
I like Gentleman Jack. A lot of Whiskey drinkers say it's basically No 7, only everything is more muted. And honestly, that's exactly what I was looking for in this Whiskey. JD No 7 taste, but smoother and with less burn.
Man walks out of a pub in Scotland to find an elderly gentleman fishing in a puddle outside. The man watches for a few mins and starts to feel sorry for the elderly gentlemen so he takes him inside the pub and buys him a few drams of scotch. After a while, the man decides to indulge the elderly gentlemen and asks him how many he caught outside in the puddle. The gentlemen looks at him and says, "you're the 8th one today".
Yes. pure scotch.
That's clean!
😄
I love how you say 'this channel is more for content, content for the whisky school' then you went on to spend 13 minutes actually avoiding talking about whisky and instead having random banter with each other! But then again as a new whisky drinker this is exactly why I subscribed :)
I typically agree with both you guys, but gentleman jack is one of my all time favorite whiskeys. I find it to be very complex, though subtle... it’s a whiskey that everyone I go back to it I find new more new things then I do in others that I routinely drink.
U guys are the best whiskey channel on the RUclips by the way!!!! Everything I want in life is comedy &a whiskey & u guys fulfill that !
Thanks! We find ourselves hilarious.
Honestly I just found this channel a few weeks ago. I love it. I'm not a (big) drinker, but I admire a love of things that you guys show, and you're pretty hilarious to boot. Love seeing yalls videos as a result.
You used my comment for an episode?!?! Excuse me while I freak the hell out! xD Very interesting that I accidentally stumbled upon an easy to drink, entry level whiskey!
Edit: Also, nicely done of the pronunciation!
I officially dub thee, a Whiskey Genius
Будьмо
living next to Lynchburg my whole life, I have drank a lot of jack and you are so right that gentleman looses that classic vanilla sweet tone that No. 7 has
Guy on the left looks like a male version of Emma stone. If she was bald and bearded
Sorry I’m drunk
Other guy looks like ragnar
Ugh? Perish the thought - Emma Stone is one hot little redhead...
dude, he´s literally our father haha
Is this you trying to come out????? 😉
Great review! As I've started to learn more and appreciate whisk(e)y more over the past couple of years, I've developed an appreciation of JD old #7. Sipped with a piece of ice, it's very smooth and simple. Great sipper on a Summer evening. (I get over-ripe banana every time?) Anyway, I agree with your thoughts on Gentleman Jack. I tried it a few weeks ago and thought that it lost something when compared to #7. More of an alcohol taste and less of the sweetness, banana etc. Probably best mixed IMO. Anyway, love your reviews.
thanks! yeah, the banana notes are pretty common for JD, but it's still a solid daily go-to.
I've tried a few whiskeys including scotch and Irish and what have you and I come back to Gentleman Jack just for something I know that's okay it's safe. And I can enjoy it with friends who are. Whiskey connoisseurs.
I drink this and compared to regular No. 7 this is like liquid silk
Its specifically made to be more smooth with less nuance. There is nothing wrong with that, but someone who hasn't tried it should be aware that they won't get something that is bursting with way more flavor than regular Jack.
Liquid silk ..Ya ...
But not the notes you have in the Jack Daniels ....
Original is far better.....
@Faqyur Ma'ama Nah...
Gentleman Jack looses the oak but gains bit more dark fruit flavours with banana, maple, vanilla sweetness. GJ is simple and as a quick finish but less harsh and more smooth and refined than number 7. Good sipping whiskey though I like number 7 also. Less chemical taste than number 7 but still there.
You guys should definitely do a review on military special, I feel a little wrong for making that request but it might be worth sending a bottle just for the commentary.
I'll find some!
if you know any active duty military that's your best bet, its generally only available on base to military personnel.
The legal definition of Tennessee whiskey is 16 year olds around a campfire debating who’s truck with 35’s is better 😂😂😂
@@josephtjader4201 Anyone thumbs up that comment ignored this one. 😏
Psh. I had 38's... Terrible on fuel economy. Lol
Don't forget half of a lift kit for the front only and half a lowering kit for the rear only. Wouldn't want to be able to see the mall crawl "trails."
Yes this is Whiskey with training wheels. However it is good and has put many on the path. I have found that if you want to sit down to do a multiple tasting you must start with this first as the second pass through the charcoal makes it so lightly flavored I can't taste much after sampling practically anything else.
Found this channel through modern rogue, you guys are awesome.
Have you guys tried Glendronach 12 year? I got it for my birthday last year and it's now one of my favourite whiskys
Working on it!
I love that whisky
Apparently gentleman jack and half mooching go hand in hand. I bought a bottle a few years back as a wedding gift, the bottle never made it to its intended recipient. instead I drank the entire bottle in one sitting after the wedding.
This is awesome. I think you maintained true moochitude on this one.
Is your Liver ok ?
I’ve tried stop doing that shit. This drink goes back very very easy.
Daniel gets extra credit for the Dizzy Gillespie reference ("Salt Peanuts"); well done!
heck yes! Extra credit for knowing about the Pointer Sisters vocal version
I love coming back to the older videos. Daniel and Rex are a masterclass in how to grow a RUclips following: passionate about their interest, care about the community, keep making content regardless of initial numbers. And it’s certainly paid off!
Hey, congrats on the amazing channel.
Now I have a question, why there is so much hate on Jack Daniel's whiskeys?
I enjoy it every time I drink it as well as other whisk(e)ys (And, yes, I prefer some over others, but that's just subjective).
Yeah, people love to shit on things they consider to be lowbrow. It's annoying, but a reality of marketing and perception.
Rex has been growing on me and in this video he has official won me over. I can now say, I no longer hate him!
I've never tried Gentleman Jack. It's been on my list for awhile but it's kinda expensive here in México but it's on sale now which is super rare. $27 for a bottle definitely picking one up this weekend!! Thanks guys! Love your content!
Omg. I wonder if my wife will let me move to austin
Another great episode. My wife picked me up a Jack Daniels taster set that included Gentleman Jack. Going to give it a shot this weekend. Quick question about something you mentioned very briefly... should you always remove all the foil from the bottle neck? Thanks again!
It's up to personal taste. I do, but there's no specific reason for it.
Since I just watched the whiskey glass episode and clearly you're not worried about being called snobs, Riedel is pronounced Reed-ol'. No "i" in the pronunciation. Love the channel, keep 'em coming. - A fellow glass snob.
hahahahahaha. Yeah, our wine friends gave us a lot of shit for that one.
Visited Prichard's a few years back and met Phil. AWESOME guy, top-notch establishment. Did you say he wasn't working there anymore? Who's running the joint then?! SWEEEEEEEEEEEET LUCY! You also forgot to mention the coolest thing about Prichard's . . . they're a RUM distillery in Tennessee!!! :D
Hey Daniel!
I was wondering if you could make an episode, talking about aging your own whisk(e)y at home, either in a small barrel or by using chips... You mentioned that you'd aged your own moonshine, and it would be interesting to hear your comments pro/con
Cheers!
I'll talk more about this as we go further into the vault list!
Ahaha the Dan thing made a comeback!
I just bought some Gentleman Jack to carry in my flask, I thought it would be suitable since it's so mellow+uncomplicated, since it seems like the vessel of the flask doesn't give beverages the chance to be exposed to much air and open up. I thought it was more than drinkable! What other whiskeys do you guys think are flask-friendly?
Hey Daniel Son and Rex I love this channel and i thank both you for broadening my horizons. I was wondering if you could review Woodford reserve double oak? Cheers from Australia
We can!
I second this! As well as a comparison with the distiller's select.
I just found a bottle of Prichard's Tennessee Malt Whiskey in my local store. I haven't opened it yet. I wondered how you think it measures up to the Single Malt? The Tennessee Malt is only 40 proof....but it is only $22.
Never tried it!
I tried it tonight. The nose was initially off-putting. The first couple sips were not favorably impressive. From the third sip, however, I began to have a real appreciation for this whisky. It is one of the most unique flavours I've experienced. It is definitely malty! I declare it a winner, in my opinion. I'm eager to see what oxidation does to the juice!
Gentleman Jack. Found for 48$ online at a danish retailer :) Some places higher. Not bad if its any good :)
Was really curious about the review for this one. I've had around 7 whiskeys shown on this channel so far and this was the first one I really didn't enjoy. Tasted like magic markers to me. Figure I'll just keep it around for cocktails.
i feel so proud Daniel said he senses maple i just bought a glen cairn glass and poured the only whisk(e)y i have at the moment which is gentleman jack and i got nothing but maple at least on the smell taste i dont have enough pattern recall to recognize what i actually taste i am absolutely new to whisk(e)y tasting and the appreciation of whisk(e)y i have always mixed my whiskery with coke and stuff like that but im excited that what i smelled was actually somewhat correct
That's this 70 year old favorite brand of Jack. I couldn't tell a lot with single barrel
Have you reviewed Jack Daniels Single Barrel (Barrel Proof) Tenessee Whiskey?
I was wondering the same thing - I couldn't find it on a RUclips search.
Ok I started with Jim Beam can you review that and tell people where to go after that. To start the great road of whisky or whiskey. You guys are fun to watch and I learn new things every show.
Absolutely. I'll add this to the growing list of requests!
All I get is Banana flavored runts candy on the nose and minty eucalyptus when I take a sip. But I smelled the bottle after I watched the video and got the peanut butter. Maybe I'm using the wrong glass.
I didn't notice that on the GJ, but I picked up the JD Rye and it was total bananamania. Not what I wanted in a rye whiskey.
Drink everytime Daniel says charcoal. Bought this and an aberlour 10 tonight, I agree that its a two note pony, i get salted peanuts and toffee. It's a nice smooth sipper, i dont hate it or anything, but I don't think id buy it again. Nice for to try if you haven't before.
I live in an apartment, with limited counter/kitchen space. What would you recommend (on the cheap) that I can store my lovely, delicious whiskey in? They are precious to me.
I bought one of those cheap Ikea book shelves that lets you add glass doors
What do you guys think of Evan Williams 1783 small batch? Great job.
Hello Daniel and Rex, will you do a review on that new JW Green 😉 on your shelf. My favorite of all JW core range. 🥃👌
It's coming soon!
I cannot begin to explain how hard it is to focus on your video while I'm already sauced.
I just tasted this and the first note I had was marshmallow. Very sweet.
Man i really got the salt peanuts on the back of my tongue, thats amazing, cheers gentleman
I love No. 7 but I can’t drink it often neat. It is on my bar for Jack and Cokes which I enjoy several nights a week. I also have a bottle of Gentleman that I do drink neat. I really enjoy it but I also have not been around the block so to speak. I also have a bottle of Proper 12 for my Irish side. I know that makes me a simpleton but I enjoy it as well.
Lmao! I like your Dizzy Gillespie Salt Peanuts quote
nailed it! Although, in my head, I was hearing the Pointer Sisters version

Don't worry guys, you're so good, the subscribers will multiply...REALLY think you've got a GREAT approach...don't change a damn thing !
I like this to be my first drink. Then Jack on the rocks if I want to drink Jack. Regular Jack tastes great once you're already tipsy
I always get heavy banana notes with this atuff. I quite like it.
Its just double filtered regular black label jack Daniel’s. Just smoother. Same flavor profile basically
Just came across this video looking up gentlemen jack.
You’ve just gained another subscriber.
I love the fact that it's a Gentleman Jack video, but 90% of it is either talking about something else or drinking other whiskey. Lol. Although I am an avid fan of Jack, mainly because it is different and nobody else I knows likes it, I did try the Gentleman Jack at a bar and much preferred No. 7. It is smoother, but it seems to lose so much of the flavor that Jack's has. I need to send you guys a bottle of Barrel Proof Jack and see what you think.
I was looking for whiskey reviews for a christmas present... turns out I really enjoyed your reviews guys lol Greetings from Chile.
Just before watching this video I was drinking Bulleit Rye and listening to Dizzy play Salt Peanuts
heck yes
so those glasses....what's up with them? they look like a glencairn with less of a tulip shape, does that make them better for certain whiskeys? I'm pretty new to whiskey.
We tried a bunch of different glassware. I'm testing these. Jimmidrammer recommended them. I dig the way they feel. Heavier than the Glencairns. But I prefer the way the whisky experience is with the Glencairns.
Also, they're Godinger Tribeca glasses www.amazon.com/Godinger-Tribeca-Whiskey-Glasses-Silver/dp/B00RII1Y0W
I like gentlemen better than the single barrel. Gentlemen is the best of the jack Daniels in my opinion
So does the Gentleman Jack tastes like Irish Greenspot, a smooth watered-down whiskey. ?
Greenspot tasted like that to me, was not impressed by it, but it’s getting great reviews everywhere.
dude this stuff is so much nicer than they saying for the price
What bourbon/whiskey/scotch would you have as your last drink ever?
nice dizzy gillespie reference
I like jack. Me and Jack are good friends
yes
Great Tennessee whiskey right there. There's just something about Jack Daniels. Have you guys been to the distillery?
I haven't, but I know our friend, Tom Fischer has! We'll make a point of it.
I literally have my bar behind me and I am not drinking, but I feel like it. I like these guys, I like the rambling...but there should be just a little more reviewing. I love the look of all the whiskeys behind them it certainly gives them instant credibility. Okay, I'll watch one more.
Extra smooth whiskey! Easy drinker neat! Cheer's
dear guy's
i have a question,
What is a mooch?
Im a new whiskey drinker and viewer of this channel.
Great video's keep em coming.
Greetings Tom
Thanks for watching!

Listening to 2 dudes make stuff up is great! Peanuts🤣 after 2 drinks of anything you not smelling salted peanuts!😉👍
hey guys do Buchanan's 12
have you tried the norlan glass? i'm curious how it stacks up with your professional palette lol
We have! We even did a tasting comparison in one of the videos. I like the way it makes things smell, but I'm not a fan of how wide and rounded the mouth edge is. Totally personal preference.
the lip takes getting used to for sure. I agree it opened it up quite a bit. I wanted it to be more weighted though, it is a bit too light. I like it when my glasses can be used as a weapon as well as a whisky glass.
I would suggest the hint of banana. Think a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Maybe a bit of honey wheat.
Hhahaha. Watching this a year later since I was going back to look at some of the reviews. I just joined a few months ago, so I was curious if about some reviews. It might be interesting, if you ever run a little dry on content, to see you go back and review a few whiskies from a year or more past. I know I have found different whiskies have different tastes now that I have exposed the palate to other whiskies, plus have been working on cooking at home a lot more over the last year. For instance, I get more honeysuckle and floral on Bushmills then I used to. Or Tullamore Dew (a favorite) tastes sweeter and gets more honey notes to it then when I first started. Just thought I might share that even old content still gets watched sometimes! Cheers!
I fucking love these guys. Nice intro
We love you too.
Salt peanuts salt peanuts
Dizzy Gillespie
You dropped da bomb on me: The Gap Band!
its like bringing busch beer to a party, drinking the sam adams and harpoon.then bring the busch beer home when you leave.
Finally tried Gentleman Jack and got alot of grap flavor. Wondering if anyone else did.
do defiant whisky please and thank you love you guys
It's on the list!
Lol drunk as fuck on Jack Daniels, Tennessee fire while watching this y’all are making me laugh like crazy
So you guys have done most of the Signature Range from Compass Box, but not the Asyla as far as i can see. Care to round out the set and give a review, as it's the 'entry' pick from the range.
Also can't wait for the new channel, more Rex can only be a good thing... right?
YES! I love Asyla. We'll get it in the list. And be careful what you wish for.
He’s not a mooch. He is a savior
Best channel ever guys!
Have you guys ever tried Highland Park?
Absolutely. It's one of my favorite distilleries. I did on on this channel alone, but we haven't reviewed it since we started this series. We'll add it to the list.
Thank you its the one that got me into whiskey.
Damn is Triplecap here too, that guy gets everywhere. ;)
We were at Pritchard's last week and met Phil Pritchard. They had both Double Chocolate and Single Malt for sale at the distillery.
nice!
OoOoOoOH Danny boyieee the pipes the pipes are calllllinggg 🎵
It's bananas really dose small like bannans
In my opinion, the way I like to drink Gentlemen Jack, is an entire glass of ice, 1/4 glass of JG, and 3/4 glass of apple cider. Otherwise, for the money, buy some Jameson.
Hey why do you not like being called Dan? No hate or anything I'm just really curious because of how much you disliked it
Close to teaching real life skills kudos guys ;)
Now my wife doesn't really know whiskey like I do so if she's out and about and I ask her to grab me a bottle without specifying she tends to get me Gentleman Jack or Maker's Mark or anything Single Barrel Jack or Maker's Cask. Pretty much anything "specialty" Maker's or Jack.
The antithesis of Rex’s thought process, continuity. At least in this video. Xoxo.
You guys are awesome !
Never knew Jackson Galaxy done whiskey reviews
I totally agree about Jack being better than gentlemen’s Jack
The only "Salt Peanuts" I know was by Dizzy Gillespie.
Am I weird because I tase peanut butter in the aftertaste of this whiskey
Taste
we do too!
Was there a new channel launched?
I really like this channel!!!
Shit down ! You're right I just bought this and this is bland, the no 7 has more character, ironically this was made to excentuate the character of standard JD more.
