    The Hornady LNL Progressive press is a high volume progressive press. I hope this video helps. 76Highboy
    This video will instruct you on how to set the priming system and it will help you dial in the cam-wire properly if the primer won't feed into the primer slide. I hope it helps and thanks for watching. 76Highboy

    oh my god. thank you so much, I was getting so frustrated because the primers wouldn't load,,,... I was ready to throw the damn Hornady reloading press. then thinking I had loaded a primer I wouldn't figure it out until there was powder in the round and that's everywhere.... thank you so much. you have no idea how much your video's helped me.

    Your tip about how to adjust the rail that moves the primer slide in and out makes watching every one of your videos worthwhile. Well done!
    Also I never thought of setting up and testing the priming system before mounting the plate or anything else. IMHO the priming system is the Achilles heel of the Hornady LNL. When it works it’s great, but sometimes 🤬 This is a huge help.

    Bill, I hope you get this post as it is attached to a 2013 video you've done. I wanted to express my sincere thanks and gratitude. I don't know what I would have done without your videos to guide my set up. I just got a new Ammo Plant after contemplating and watching you vids for quite awhile. But, it's not an easy piece of machinery to get running. At least if you've never done it before and I haven't but I do have years of reloading experience behind me but this is a little different loader, more of a machine. Anyway I went slow and watched your vids as I approached another part of setting the machine, slowly but surely everything came together tonight. I started about 2:00 P.M. and just finished up setting the press up and running a batch of 9mm at 8:30 P.M. I already had the hardware, drill and everything I needed to mount the press so that saved some time. Such a feeling of satisfaction to see a shell plate full of rounds all in different stages of the loading process. It was great but I will really have to pay attention to this thing, one mistake and it's screwed up......then again, it really isn't because this press makes it so easy to just pull a mistake out of the line and keep on cranking. The powder measure won't throw if there isn't any shell present. I guess I should say they built this press for someone like me who occasionally gets distracted. Anyway, I digress, just wanted to say thank you for the time you've spent. I don't know how many people you've helped but count me as one. THANKS

    Your videos are great! I am a French Hornady LNL AP owner. Around here, reloaders are dillon addicted, so I felt alone to setup correctly this press. Now, I have all i need to improve the press and my reloading process. Your description is detailed so it is easy to reproduce everything.Thank you!
    The first issue i have, is the bolt untighten itself after a few realoading cycles. Now, i'll purchase a lock washer and the problem will be over.
    The second issue i have, is sometimes the cam that guide the primer slide gets out of the bottom nut. I'll check the priming system setup, i hope this will solve the malfunction.

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  10 лет назад +1

      This is so awesome!!!! Thanks for the positive reply and I am ecstatic that my videos helped you. Let us know if you get the bugs worked out and remember, now you have a bunch of Hornady friends so I hope you follow along.

      Bill Morgan
      To give you some feedback, I added a lock washer to my press and I realigned the priming system. I have reloaded 300 ammo. The bolt that maintains the shell plate doesn't move. But sometimes the cam feed primer gets out off the nut without any reason. I maybe have over tight the primer punch. Do you have any idea?

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  10 лет назад +1

      Hornady has an new upgrade for that priming ram. Is yours getting grit stuck in it? If not call Hornady, explain it to them and see if they can send you the new updated priming ram. Hope that helps. Highboy.

    • @JeanMichel-un2mb
      @JeanMichel-un2mb 10 лет назад +1

      Bill Morgan
      I think I fixed the issue with the priming ram. I discover that the primer seater punch doesn't go back to its inital place after pushing the primer in the case. In this situation, when you handle the press, the priming slide is blocked and it can't move to carry a new primer. To avoid exploding everything, the priming ram gets out of the nut. To solve the problem, I removed the primer punch, I degreased it, I cleaned it and I reput it in place. This morning, I realoaded 200 ammo with no issue. I think my priming punch was dirty and not lubrificated.
      As you explained in your videos, when you have a problem with the priming system, usually the solution is linked to the shellpate or in this case to the priming punch.
      Sorry for my bad english, if you need information, let me know.

    Dear God, thank you for this video.
    I must have somehow moved that cam-wire when setting up the case feeder ( which doesn't work right yet either ) following the Hornady corp. 12 videos. They do it last and you have to take the press off the mount again. I could not for the life of me figure out why my primers that feed perfectly prior to that would not feed.
    I spent hours trying to figure it out. Cleaned, dry lubed, re cleaned, re dry lubed, re cleaned, buffed... disassemble, assemble, disassemble, repeat... read the forums, blew every part with canned air, watched vids on feeder issues... Still couldn't figure out what I did until now. So I checked the alignment as you did and reset it. Boom. Feeds perfectly.
    I never would have had the confidence to feed a primer by hand either. Simple for testing too.
    Thank you. From the bottom of what was a very frustrated heart.

    Hey Bill, After watching your vid on Hints and Trick Pt2. I think I know what was happening. It's my opinion that I was having some primers hang up sideways in the primer shuttle....this caused the press to malfunction and wiggling the handle fixed it. Either the primer would settle in the shuttle or it would fall out which would also explain why I had a few cartridges without primers........I thought I failed to push the handle hard enough to seat the primer. But a misaligned primer would cause the problems I experienced. So.....I'll set the shuttle up the way you have outlined.
    Thanks again, you're a lifesaver with this machine.

    It's great video. I love the way you can reinstall the primer slide. Removing the primer shuttle hex head screw and slowly pivot the tube with your index finger and save the primers in the tube. You emphasize not to put your finger or thumb on the opposite end of the tube. However sir when your index finger is on the shuttle side, it is still exposed to the primers. Never-the-less, I'm am still going to use your method. Its the only other way other than spilling primers all over the place. Keep up the good work. I also own the Dillon XL 650. And I believe there is no quick method to remove primers. If you have, I (we) would love to know.

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  3 года назад +1

      Except you don't have a choice to not leave your finger under the shuttle. Otherwise I would advise to move that one too. Yes, I do have a very fast way of removing primers from your 650. Just cycle the priming index arm until empty. Highboy

    • @cwood7240

    Big +1 out to you Bill!!! I've been having issues with my LNL feeding Large Pistol Primers. I followed what this video said, and it's feeding LPPs great!

    So I'm new to reloading. I got everything running smooth except the primer system and bullet seating. For the primer system the problem I'm having is the primer slide won't slide all the way forward I have to nudge it every time or else the pin that seats the primer won't pass thru the primer slide. I tried tour tips but no luck. Maybe the spring is not strong enough? With the bullet seating the problem I'm having is 50 percent of my projectiles can be pressed into the powder by hand. The other half is good. I've tried several settings on my full length case sized. I've tried adjusting my powder thru expander. So far best results are to not flare the cases. Still have same problem but not as frequent. Also causes my bullet feeder to just set the bullet on the case to the point it falls off when it goes to next station. I'm using LnL ammo plant with hornady dies. Sizer/recap then powder measure/expander then powder cop then bullet feeder then bullet seater. Any help would be great.

    Bill,
    These are an excellent set of videos. They're both informative and enjoyable. I've purchased a machine on the basis of your videos. I've got a couple of questions. I'm having a problem with priming. I'm convinced the feed & timing (after a lot of experimentation) are as good as can be. However, approximately 1 in 20 (CCI) primers don't seat fully. I've not tried another make. Any bright ideas appreciated. Secondly, actually getting bits for the press is difficult in the UK. For instance, I've been waiting since early December for a #1 shell plate. I can't get a delivery date for a benchrest powder measure. I want to load 6mm BR to be as accurate as possible without weighing each charge as at present. In your opinion, is the existing powder measure good enough, or would you substitute another powder measure.
    Grateful your thoughts.
    Kindest regards
    Dave

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  10 лет назад +1

      Answer one: One in 20, it is correctable. The timing on the pawls is off just enough that once in a while one is snagging. I will be doing a video in the next month on how to adjust the pawls. Until then study it a bit. I wish I could give you more info from my end.
      Answer two: Run what you have and monitor what it measures and then you will know. I have a second video where I demo the bench rested powder measure and that will give you an idea of what accuracy you are looking for. In that video I run extruded powder, flake powder, and ball powder so I hope that helps. Let me know what you find out and thanks for following along. Highboy

    So I've watched all of your hornady lnl ap press set up videos. They are awesome and I greatly appreciate your efforts putting together the series. I am having a problem with my primer system. I adjusted it as you described in the video. Everything works great until I get to the last primer. It flips sideways in the shuttle and holds it from coming forward. I can run primers one after another without any problems until I get to the last one. Do you have any suggestion for correcting the problem. I have contacted hornady and they are sending me a new shuttle and a couple other parts I need.

    Hi Bill.
    Great video. I keep coming back to your fav 6 Tips / hints. I have a quick question. I accidentally took the entire assembly apart for the powder charge. I put it back together but every 100 or so rounds, the screw comes loose on the linkage piece that hooks to the pin. I looked at the diagram and am pretty sure it is assembled as it works correctly and throws a consistent charge. If I tighten it too much, it won;t let the powder throw (up and down) smoothly or it completely jams. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Rico

    BIll,
    Great tut on the LNL AP. 1 question about the primer system. Lets say you run a case by the the live primer and forget to seat that primer, pull the handle and move on to the next case to prime. Do I now have 2 live primers wanting to be seated?

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  10 лет назад +1

      No. If you watch you will see me half index around bout there is only one primer staged for the next shell. One primer is loaded into the shuttle at a time and that one primer sits until it is picked up. Over the next several months I will be bringing Dillon on so I will be previewing that as well. Thanks for asking and I hopoe to get to chat with you more Sir. Highboy

    Hey Man, been having frustrating issues with getting the primer seater plug to seat my primers just below flush with the case head, tried snugging up the plug so its nice and tight, broke it, hornady sent me a replacement. i put a spent primer directly underneath the primer seater plug, it was alright, but eventually the spent primer gets more dented and doesnt do its job, an simple fixes you know of to get that just below flush primer seating? i sometimes feel like im going to snap the handle off the press just trying to get that primer below the case head. thanks

  • @robertwilliamson9722
    @robertwilliamson9722 10 лет назад +2

    Bill,
    What I meant is, if you are loading as normal and you forget to do the forward push to seat the bullet and continue on as if you had seated it, but you did not realize you had not seated it. What happens to that primer, does it get shuttled around or pulled back into and out of the primer feed system?
    I hope I make sense here?

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  10 лет назад +1

      You actually are very easy to understand. If I were to forget to seat the primer then the primer would remain in the shuttle ready for the next empty case. The primer delivery is position sensitive, meaning it will remain ready until you push the handle rearward.
      Thanks Sir.

    Do you load any 9mm? I understand from talking with all my shooting friends tat 9mm is one of the trickiest cartridges to reload because the case is so small. The biggest complaint I hear on progressive machines is "powder splashing out of the case on auto-index". If you reload 9mm, do you have the same problem?

    Evening Bill, I broke the primer wire's plastic fitting off while loading some 40 S&W's. Luckily I had another one, I put it on in as close to the same place as my old and things are working well. Can you tell me what happened? First let me give you some symptoms. The press would lock up and I thought it was the shell plate not indexing, then I thought the primer wasn't fully seating in the case. I couldn't see the wire from where I was sitting but I found if I would jiggle the handle a little it would run o.k. Finally it hung up, when I tried to jiggle the handle the plastic piece broke. I think I know how not to do it again but can you give me some hints on how to prevent this from happening (things to look for prior to failure)
    Thanks, Pat

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  10 лет назад +1

      I believe what happend was when you were going to Top Dead Center (Gear Head Lingo Brutha) the primer slide did not extend all the way back to pick the primer up. Therefore the primer slide bent the primer slide guide wirs snd consequently the wear part was the plastic piece. What will cause the primer slide to not retract to the load position is sometimes the primer ram will catch the primer slide and the primer slide will become motionless and then the wire gets bent and the plastic piece breaks.
      I believe this is the case based off what I reads from you Pat. Look forward to your upcoming video where you stole my show. Highboy

      Bill Morgan O.K. I need to take it apart and see where the primer slide is ending up, trying to make sure it's set up the way you did in the vid. The main problem (or a problem) is not being able to see the rod when operating the press. I had no idea the problem came from back there. Anyway thanks for the info. something to check out. That is the first time I've had a hiccup of any kind with this press. I think the trick is to think (TOP DEAD CENTER)....amen?

    Hi Jim
    Great tip on the case ejector. I was having issues last night and went back to the video. I loaded anger 15 rounds without issue so I think your tip was the magic bullet. Thanks. I did have one question. I ran the press one bullet at a time to double check everything. Everything looked good. Once I starting running them with all the cases, I notices my case length went from 1.265 (45ACP) to 1.276. I can't explain it. It took lots of fussing and resizing bullets again after coming off the press. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    What can you advise about using LC brass, 308 cal, for the AP. For the life of me, I cannot get some of the cartridges to size properly so that the very bottom of the casing is not oversize diameter. That is, about >.470. Headspace gage doesn't like it either, says my Wilson gage. Use the Hornady FL sizing die, and it just hates getting tightened down farm enuf to bang on the shellplate and squeeze the butt down to size. And my SCAR 17 just hates it, too. (Gee, and how do I know this???) So what should I do? Throw out all the LC brass? Throw out the AP? Use a new shellplate or die??? Help, please.

      No drugs, just lots of coffee. I get a lot of guys that ding me for that but the fact of it is these videos were made out of request with little preparation. It is a challenging task to illustrate, watch the camcorder, and speak. Oh well, I have gotten a little better over time. Thanks for the compliment. Highboy

    I think I see something terribly wrong here.
    There is no mess or clutter on the workbench! How can you reload like a real shooter if you don't have clutter or mess on the workbench?!?!?!?
