Hi, Jim. I started reloading back in pre-RUclips times (mid nineties). What a difference today. Your videos give the up close and personal touch. Truth is, knowing your equipment inside and out gives the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve, which is IMHO what makes this hobby so much fun.

Hey I know these series of videos are really old, but I've stumbled upon them watching LNL AP videos. I've loaded on mine already and did fine, and I've loaded on a Dillon 550 and a 650 in the past and did fine. But I just wanted to say that watching your videos here, you give so many nuggets of expert information that goes ever so slightly more in-depth than any other reloading videos I've seen for progressive presses. I've watched a ton of videos on vehicle wrapping, photoshop, music keyboards, woodcarving, all different subjects. You have a natural ability to stack in details and explain why you do things the way you do it that goes beyond the norm. It makes me want to be more patient and informative when teaching my own son how to do something.
You Sir just humbled me. Your son is an extension of you with his own unique characteristics. He needs you and when you are patient with him you reassure him that you have confidence in him. One day he will fly away... enjoy it and take it slow. Highboy

Thanks for all the videos! I am waiting for mine in the mail and I am replacing my lee pro 1000. Your videos certainly have me more confidence in setting up this press and I am going to buy some graphite and o rings to make sure I don't run into all of those potential problems. I crank out a lot of 9mm, 10mm and 40sw
Just picked up my new AP this week. If I could change just one thing, it would be to grind in flats on the LnL bushings so that you can use a wrench to lock them in before adjusting the dies into position and then locking them in.
Another great video, my press should arrive sometime next week and I can't wait to put all your great advise to use. Now if only I could find some reloading components for 9mm I will be doing good. Keep the vids coming I want to learn so much more.

It seems like the rubbing alcohol works for you but i will add that alcohol is a polar solvent, like acetone or water, and does not mix with oil without some sort of emulsifier like dish soap or eggwhites. Brake cleaner, mineral spirits, gasoline, turpentine etc. are examples of non-polar solvents and would probably be better choices for breaking down the packing oil coatings that protect the press during storage, with brake cleaner at the top of the list because it does not leave a residue. Though, the dry lube in the Hornady One-Shot gun cleaner/lube is a much better rust preventative and lubricant to keep things running smoothly. I am a house painter, not a chemist, so take with a grain of sodium chloride.
Hi Bill. I really enjoy tour videos. I do miss that you don't visit the Hornady press now that you have a Dillon. Have you ever thought about putting together a great troubleshooting tips and tricks for the people with the Hornady case feed? I know your insight would be appreciated. Keep up,the great work. Looking forward to the Ar-15 series. I learned something the other day I thought I would share. I reloaded from the same manufacturer the same load but one projectile was I believe plated flat bottom and the other was BT. Both were 55 grn. The FB projectile latterly flies apart in my 1:7 twist barrel ( can't hit paper at 50 yards and key holes etc at closer distance. The BT projectile can easily shoot a 1-1/2. Inch group ( only using a red dot). Thought I would share as it might be an interesting subject for you to talk about. I pulled all he projectiles and reloaded with BT. I am going to let my. Buddy load them up and shoot them out of his 1:9 twist to see how they do. Hope you had a great Father's Day. Rico

Thanks for making these videos. I bought my press 2 years ago and never used it. Your videos are definitely going to help. I have a question. In the video #3 you never mentioned the 3 insert able tubes for the powder measure. I take it one if for rifle, the other large pistol and the next small pistol? I am talking about the 3 steel tubular inserts that come in a small package.
yeah but I started with part 3 and will watch part 1-5 is there a part 6? I didn't see one. I also have the Dillon XL 750 will watch those when Im done with the Hornady. AP. its pretty much up and going want to fine tune it though. still having hard time not being able to see if a primer loaded, if I have a shell in all stations I can't see if a primer is ready to seat. When I miss one the powder goes out the bottom and its a mess. still trying to fine tune the priming part.
You have done an awesome job on your videos. However, I wanted to make a very small correction for you. You mentioned that you used a "1.5mm x 1.9mm o-ring" for the shoulder bolt for the powder measure. I tried finding this and couldn't find it. I then found the same o-ring kit that you used from Harbor Freight (even 4 years later, it is the 225 Piece Metric Nitrile O-ring Assortment #67609) and I found out that you were pointing to the 5.8mm x 1.9mm o-ring. :) So, anyone that is planning on doing this, you need to get the 5.8mm x 1.9mm o-ring, not a 1.5mm x 1.9mm o-ring. Crap happens. I do podcasts and I make mistakes all of the time, so I totally understand. :) I just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone trying to follow the tips and tricks that you suggest. I really appreciate all of the hard work you have done (and currently do) with your videos. I understand you don't use the Hornady any longer, but I still appreciate you keeping this video series up for those of us that are just getting into reloading and purchased the Hornady L-n-L AP anyway. :) (such as myself) These tips are great and you do an awesome job at the presentation. You keep it interesting and base it on safety which is paramount. I'm a firearms instructor and I believe safety is paramount as well, so I thank you for following along in that perspective. Again, please don't take the above negatively. I'm just trying to help out those that may be using your tips and tricks and might have only listened instead of actually seeing (it was hard to see the writing on the box, so I compared boxes and that's how I found out which size it was) which size o-ring it was. :) The other o-ring size (for the lock and load bushing) is correct. Only the shoulder bolt o-ring size was stated incorrectly. Anyway...keep rockin' n' rollin' and thank you again! Mat

22x3 mm o-ring is a red hiering. 22x2.3 or 22x2.4 in every kit. Cannot find a kit with your o-ring even at Harbor Freight. Other than that killer info.
Highboy your videos are the best I have found on the Hornday assembly, I would be calling Hornady non-stop without your help. I do have one question, at about 5:32 min. into the video you instruct to add the o-ring to the powder drop linkage. I followed your directions and when I looked the o-ring does not even come close to touching the linkage. Maybe I am doing something wrong or they have changed the design given I just bought it a few weeks ago. Thanks again for the great videos!!!

Highboy 76...Awesome videos, I've watched most of your Hornady ones, I like them because you show issues you run into and how to fix them...bought the Hornady LNL AP Press, on your advice, a few months and have since reloaded 5000 rounds of 9mm and .40 S&W. I got .223 dies from my boys for Christmas and have loaded 200 rounds in the last 2 days. My issue is this...btw I am running the #2 powder sleeve, I am getting powder on top of the case around the mouth, what would be causing that? Or is that just normal that some powder may stick to the top maybe because of the case lube?
I wish I could help you but I never ran the powder sleeves, probably because I never used the case feeder... but I could be wrong on that. Hornady would be able to help you with that. I am glad you are enjoying your big Hornady. They are a beast of a machine. Highboy
Highboy, Great vodeos! You've sold me on the LNL! Hornady should be hooking you up with some Swag for selling their product! What's your take on using Dillon dies for reloding on the LNL? I've read some posts that say stay all Hornady, but they don't really offer a 3-die set for the .223. Obviously Dillon does or I wouldn't be posing this question.
Hell Bill... Your video really helped me understand everything about the powder measure on my Hornady LNL progressive press. For some reason though I am having some residual powder getting on the shell plate when reloading (9mm Luger)which eventually fouls up the primer indexing slide and primer seat. Any suggestions on what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for this video!!

If I set the powder measure to click at the top of the travel, isn't that keeping the plate from coming all the way up also? For example, will that affect the settings and performance of my sizing die or bullet seating die? On another note, thanks so much for these video's. I only recently started to get into reloading and chose the LNL progressive and classic as my presses. It hasn't even come yet, but your video's are going to save me a lot of headaches. I've gotten some of this info on other channels, but your complete end-to-end explanations are helping me gain a clear understanding I can't get anywhere else!
No, by setting the measure to click at the top, that has no bearing on the plate.Once you set it up you will see. Also, I will be doing a new series that will be continuous on reloading and I will be answering questions and you NEED TO CHECK OUT MY BEGINNING RELOADING SERIES!!! Fantastic stuff. It is a full reloading series starting with the 357 magnum, and then we will go into the .223 and the semi-auto. I am also incorporating a womens reloading and gun series. im watching your videos and im not sure if you talk about it or not but my question is in regards to the powder measure. my powder measure will work fine but occasionally it will loosen from the press and lift up with the lock and load bushing so that the case below will push everything up like its all one piece. at that point the powder dispensed is not enough and I have to turn the bushing back in place. maybe I need to try another bushing. what do you suggest.
Just going back through these for a refresh. I pulled out out the box with all the cylinders which I had put away after cleaning with one shot. I noticed some surface rust. I am thinking fingerprints, thoughts on removing the rust and proper storage ?
Just save the silicon dioxide moisture packets from a pill bottle or steal them from other stuff you buy and throw them in a small ziplock that you’ve labeled or an old pill bottle you labeled. If you are anything like me you will appreciate the label when you come back to reload and are thinking, “what the heck was this part for again?” Wipe them off and hold with a rag when putting them in their containers so the oil from fingerprints doesn’t get on them as it’s acidic. A fine drywall sanding sponge takes rust off really fast.
Bill, last week I contacted you and said, I purchased a Hornady AP Lock and Load press. Yesterday, was the day I received it. So, far I am taking my time and learning. I have a question. There are 3 bushings that come with the press that go into the powder drop tube. I want to know what the medium and small bushings are for what calibers. So far I have worked with 5.56 cases. Finally got those to prime. But, had trouble getting a full stroke because the powder measure would not let me make a full stroke to drop another primer. Thanks, Rick
Hi Bill. I am having issues with keeping the linkage connected on the powder assembly. When it raises (usually when I throw it manually), the linkage pin pulls away from the assembly with the two screens attached to the powder chamber assembly. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance Richard I watched the video again. I disassembled the linkage assembly and reassembled. The pin in now approx in the middle. Great video.
I do not and have never had that problem. You may need to call Hornady BUT, I would try to walk through everything resetting it up and see if you can beat it. Sorry I have no fixes for you. Highboy

Go to MidayUSA.com. Search for "Redding Bushing". You can replace the loosening LNL on just the powder measure position for s solid lock up. I will try to get my videos done on it by the weekend. I hope this helps. Jim
Hi Bill. I have looked at of you vids dealing with the set up of the Hornady AP reloader an think you have done a fine job. I have set it up and am having a problem with the powder drop tube. I am loading 5.56 cases but I am trying to get it to drop 26 grains but no luck. One drop will be 26.4 and when I adjust it I get 25.8. No matter what I do I can't get it to give me 26 grains. Additionally, I can not get it to give me consistent power drops. Any suggestions?
+Jim Winters Hello Jim. I no longer run the Hornady and I am now running Dillon and Redding. I never ran rifle on my Hornady because of this exact issue you are describing. I always used my single stage. I am still new to Dillon and will soon find out if it does a better job. Right now, I am running the Redding T7 Turret and it is spot on perfect and it is very fast. I am sorry I cannot help you Sir. If I were you, due to safety reasons, I would load rifle on a single stage and the Redding t& Turret is fabulous and I have not had one person disagree. I'm a little confused. You stopped using the AP altogether or stopped using it for rifle or did you mean something else? Kind of disheartening to watch all of your enthusiasm in the video about this press only to read you gave up on it. Or have I misunderstood something?
Most powder drops struggle to meter out stick powder accurately. You could try switching to a ball or flake powder that will meter better. I have heard that some guys will run the Lee Pro auto disc powder meter on these presses because they are more consistent with stick powders though I have not tried it myself to verify this. If you are loading for ultimate precision you will want to weigh every charge of powder because that is really the best way to ensure consistency from one round to the next. If you are loading plinking/training rounds and maximum accuracy is not necessary typically people will weigh 10 charges in a row and the average weight of those is the target weight they are metering out. For every day ammo .5 of a grain up or down typically won't make that much of a difference. Just make sure you aren't close enough to max charge that the variance in your powder thrower can go over it and you should be fine. Most rifles will also have a sweet spot so to speak in terms of velocity where they will hold a very tight group over .8 to 1.5 grain variance in powder. If you can determine this through ladder testing or chronograph testing and load accordingly most of your variances in powder drop should not even be noticeable.
Bill, I've watched over 20 of your excellent videos. The problem I'm having is trying to get an accurate, consistent powder charge when loading .243 rounds. I'm trying to load 43.5 grains. However, what comes out of the charger is between 43.0 and 43.8. I have reviewed your vid on the powder charger several times. I'm thinking it may be the that the resizing die on a rifle round takes a bit more force and jars the press a bit which may lead to the variance in powder being thrown. Any help is greatly appreciated. Toby
Make mine 90%, 3 gal..He used Hornaday's cleaner in Part 1. Rewind the tape to 3:27 and see all the Hornady spray cans on top of the man's toolbox, over his left shoulder.
Ok, question on the height setup. The first time you did it, you set the height until it clicked then lowered the ram and turned the assembly a good half turn before tightening it down. The second time you did not do the extra turn and just tightened it as it was. Am I missing a reasoning for the difference or was this just an oversight?
These videos were made in the middle of the night off the cuff and were made due to request. At the time I did not know I was going to end up with a channel. I made the videos at about 1:00 AM and went to bed. Probably and oversight. I no longer own this press. Highboy

I ordered it from Hornady. I find the powder baffle works best with the flake and ball powders. You will just have to experiment with it. When I am running extruded powders I leave it out because it seems to measure a little more accurately. Thanks for posting and I hope you say hello from time to time. Highboy
I've watched a couple of your vid's man you've got some real good tips. Got a question for you, I'm having issues with 4831SC throwing consistent charges, any suggestions? I'm loading a 6.5x.284 rifle and the 4831SC just isn't playing nicely. The finer granulated powders r working great like the W231, ect. Thanks, Dave
Highboy76: Thank you for all the Hornady LnL series. All very helpful. I shoot high-power and use the LnL for my practice ammo in 6XC which is a 22-250 necked up to a 6mm. I cannot get the Hornady powder measure to give me accurate throws. I would be happy with 38.5 gr of Ramshot Hunter +/_ 0.5 gr. It starts off ok then after about 10 throws, the charges start decreasing. Have noticed the reading on the micrometer gauge changes, so I readjust it back, and even still the charges start to decrease. I have tightened the allen screw( hand tight). Also having problems with the primer seating high even though i have switched the primer ram to the new cylindrical one. i have tried using the dime under the ram, but really? this shouldn't be the fix. Any help for these problems? Thanks again.
I have quit using my Hornady because I am experiencing issues with not being able to seat past slush and now I am beginning to notice an occasional high primer. I called Hornady and they said they don't guarantee past flush and advised me to use another means of priming like my Redding. Otherwise, they said they cannot help me but, they sent me the dime. The dime threw my timing off so that did not work. I called Dillon and they said if that happened with their machine they would send a new primer block and that would be that!!! I have been loading on my RL550B and have not looked back since. The Dillon will throw powder every bit as consistent as the Hornady. I am sorry I cannot help you. You sound like a good guy and I welcome you to my channel. Highboy

Trying to decide between the 550B and the 650. But since i shoot around 5-6K rounds of rifle a year, leaning towards the 650. I use a Canon camcorder. I have had it several month's and I paid about $180.00 for it. Do not get a camera because when you record with a camera you can only record for 20 minutes because they need to cool down. It you continually video with a camera you will eventually ruin it. You can do some video recording but they are not designed to be used continually for that. Thanks for asking. Highboy
Can I ask why you went from Hornady to Dillion? What was the cause? As I have Hornady LNL AP. I love it and the red brand. The bullets I use is all Hornady.

Brake cleaner, mineral spirits, gasoline, turpentine etc. are examples of non-polar solvents and would probably be better choices for breaking down the packing oil coatings that protect the press during storage, with brake cleaner at the top of the list because it does not leave a residue. Though, the dry lube in the Hornady One-Shot gun cleaner/lube is a much better rust preventative and lubricant to keep things running smoothly. I am a house painter, not a chemist, so take with a grain of sodium chloride.

Hi Bill. I really enjoy tour videos. I do miss that you don't visit the Hornady press now that you have a Dillon. Have you ever thought about putting together a great troubleshooting tips and tricks for the people with the Hornady case feed? I know your insight would be appreciated. Keep up,the great work. Looking forward to the Ar-15 series. I learned something the other day I thought I would share. I reloaded from the same manufacturer the same load but one projectile was I believe plated flat bottom and the other was BT. Both were 55 grn. The FB projectile latterly flies apart in my 1:7 twist barrel ( can't hit paper at 50 yards and key holes etc at closer distance. The BT projectile can easily shoot a 1-1/2. Inch group ( only using a red dot). Thought I would share as it might be an interesting subject for you to talk about. I pulled all he projectiles and reloaded with BT. I am going to let my. Buddy load them up and shoot them out of his 1:9 twist to see how they do.

Thanks for making these videos. I bought my press 2 years ago and never used it. Your videos are definitely going to help. I have a question. In the video #3 you never mentioned the 3 insert able tubes for the powder measure. I take it one if for rifle, the other large pistol and the next small pistol? I am talking about the 3 steel tubular inserts that come in a small package.
yeah but I started with part 3 and will watch part 1-5 is there a part 6? I didn't see one. I also have the Dillon XL 750 will watch those when Im done with the Hornady. AP. its pretty much up and going want to fine tune it though. still having hard time not being able to see if a primer loaded, if I have a shell in all stations I can't see if a primer is ready to seat. When I miss one the powder goes out the bottom and its a mess. still trying to fine tune the priming part.
You have done an awesome job on your videos. However, I wanted to make a very small correction for you. You mentioned that you used a "1.5mm x 1.9mm o-ring" for the shoulder bolt for the powder measure. I tried finding this and couldn't find it. I then found the same o-ring kit that you used from Harbor Freight (even 4 years later, it is the 225 Piece Metric Nitrile O-ring Assortment #67609) and I found out that you were pointing to the 5.8mm x 1.9mm o-ring. :) So, anyone that is planning on doing this, you need to get the 5.8mm x 1.9mm o-ring, not a 1.5mm x 1.9mm o-ring. Crap happens. I do podcasts and I make mistakes all of the time, so I totally understand. :) I just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone trying to follow the tips and tricks that you suggest. I really appreciate all of the hard work you have done (and currently do) with your videos.
I understand you don't use the Hornady any longer, but I still appreciate you keeping this video series up for those of us that are just getting into reloading and purchased the Hornady L-n-L AP anyway. :) (such as myself) These tips are great and you do an awesome job at the presentation. You keep it interesting and base it on safety which is paramount. I'm a firearms instructor and I believe safety is paramount as well, so I thank you for following along in that perspective. Again, please don't take the above negatively. I'm just trying to help out those that may be using your tips and tricks and might have only listened instead of actually seeing (it was hard to see the writing on the box, so I compared boxes and that's how I found out which size it was) which size o-ring it was. :) The other o-ring size (for the lock and load bushing) is correct. Only the shoulder bolt o-ring size was stated incorrectly. Anyway...keep rockin' n' rollin' and thank you again!

22x3 mm o-ring is a red hiering. 22x2.3 or 22x2.4 in every kit. Cannot find a kit with your o-ring even at Harbor Freight. Other than that killer info.
Highboy your videos are the best I have found on the Hornday assembly, I would be calling Hornady non-stop without your help. I do have one question, at about 5:32 min. into the video you instruct to add the o-ring to the powder drop linkage. I followed your directions and when I looked the o-ring does not even come close to touching the linkage. Maybe I am doing something wrong or they have changed the design given I just bought it a few weeks ago. Thanks again for the great videos!!!

Highboy 76...Awesome videos, I've watched most of your Hornady ones, I like them because you show issues you run into and how to fix them...bought the Hornady LNL AP Press, on your advice, a few months and have since reloaded 5000 rounds of 9mm and .40 S&W. I got .223 dies from my boys for Christmas and have loaded 200 rounds in the last 2 days. My issue is this...btw I am running the #2 powder sleeve, I am getting powder on top of the case around the mouth, what would be causing that? Or is that just normal that some powder may stick to the top maybe because of the case lube?
I wish I could help you but I never ran the powder sleeves, probably because I never used the case feeder... but I could be wrong on that. Hornady would be able to help you with that. I am glad you are enjoying your big Hornady. They are a beast of a machine. Highboy
Highboy, Great vodeos! You've sold me on the LNL! Hornady should be hooking you up with some Swag for selling their product! What's your take on using Dillon dies for reloding on the LNL? I've read some posts that say stay all Hornady, but they don't really offer a 3-die set for the .223. Obviously Dillon does or I wouldn't be posing this question.

Hell Bill... Your video really helped me understand everything about the powder measure on my Hornady LNL progressive press. For some reason though I am having some residual powder getting on the shell plate when reloading (9mm Luger)which eventually fouls up the primer indexing slide and primer seat. Any suggestions on what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for this video!!

If I set the powder measure to click at the top of the travel, isn't that keeping the plate from coming all the way up also? For example, will that affect the settings and performance of my sizing die or bullet seating die?

No, by setting the measure to click at the top, that has no bearing on the plate.Once you set it up you will see. Also, I will be doing a new series that will be continuous on reloading and I will be answering questions and you NEED TO CHECK OUT MY BEGINNING RELOADING SERIES!!! Fantastic stuff. It is a full reloading series starting with the 357 magnum, and then we will go into the .223 and the semi-auto. I am also incorporating a womens reloading and gun series. im watching your videos and im not sure if you talk about it or not but my question is in regards to the powder measure. my powder measure will work fine but occasionally it will loosen from the press and lift up with the lock and load bushing so that the case below will push everything up like its all one piece. at that point the powder dispensed is not enough and I have to turn the bushing back in place. maybe I need to try another bushing. what do you suggest.

Just going back through these for a refresh. I pulled out out the box with all the cylinders which I had put away after cleaning with one shot. I noticed some surface rust. I am thinking fingerprints, thoughts on removing the rust and proper storage ?
Just save the silicon dioxide moisture packets from a pill bottle or steal them from other stuff you buy and throw them in a small ziplock that you’ve labeled or an old pill bottle you labeled. If you are anything like me you will appreciate the label when you come back to reload and are thinking, “what the heck was this part for again?” Wipe them off and hold with a rag when putting them in their containers so the oil from fingerprints doesn’t get on them as it’s acidic. A fine drywall sanding sponge takes rust off really fast.

Bill, last week I contacted you and said, I purchased a Hornady AP Lock and Load press. Yesterday, was the day I received it. So, far I am taking my time and learning. I have a question. There are 3 bushings that come with the press that go into the powder drop tube. I want to know what the medium and small bushings are for what calibers. So far I have worked with 5.56 cases. Finally got those to prime. But, had trouble getting a full stroke because the powder measure would not let me make a full stroke to drop another primer. Thanks, Rick

Hi Bill. I am having issues with keeping the linkage connected on the powder assembly. When it raises (usually when I throw it manually), the linkage pin pulls away from the assembly with the two screens attached to the powder chamber assembly. Do you have any suggestions.

I watched the video again. I disassembled the linkage assembly and reassembled. The pin in now approx in the middle. Great video.
I do not and have never had that problem. You may need to call Hornady BUT, I would try to walk through everything resetting it up and see if you can beat it. Sorry I have no fixes for you. Highboy

Go to MidayUSA.com. Search for "Redding Bushing". You can replace the loosening LNL on just the powder measure position for s solid lock up. I will try to get my videos done on it by the weekend. I hope this helps. Jim
Hi Bill. I have looked at of you vids dealing with the set up of the Hornady AP reloader an think you have done a fine job. I have set it up and am having a problem with the powder drop tube. I am loading 5.56 cases but I am trying to get it to drop 26 grains but no luck. One drop will be 26.4 and when I adjust it I get 25.8. No matter what I do I can't get it to give me 26 grains. Additionally, I can not get it to give me consistent power drops. Any suggestions?
+Jim Winters Hello Jim. I no longer run the Hornady and I am now running Dillon and Redding. I never ran rifle on my Hornady because of this exact issue you are describing. I always used my single stage. I am still new to Dillon and will soon find out if it does a better job. Right now, I am running the Redding T7 Turret and it is spot on perfect and it is very fast. I am sorry I cannot help you Sir. If I were you, due to safety reasons, I would load rifle on a single stage and the Redding t& Turret is fabulous and I have not had one person disagree. I'm a little confused. You stopped using the AP altogether or stopped using it for rifle or did you mean something else? Kind of disheartening to watch all of your enthusiasm in the video about this press only to read you gave up on it. Or have I misunderstood something?
Most powder drops struggle to meter out stick powder accurately. You could try switching to a ball or flake powder that will meter better. I have heard that some guys will run the Lee Pro auto disc powder meter on these presses because they are more consistent with stick powders though I have not tried it myself to verify this. If you are loading for ultimate precision you will want to weigh every charge of powder because that is really the best way to ensure consistency from one round to the next. If you are loading plinking/training rounds and maximum accuracy is not necessary typically people will weigh 10 charges in a row and the average weight of those is the target weight they are metering out. For every day ammo .5 of a grain up or down typically won't make that much of a difference. Just make sure you aren't close enough to max charge that the variance in your powder thrower can go over it and you should be fine. Most rifles will also have a sweet spot so to speak in terms of velocity where they will hold a very tight group over .8 to 1.5 grain variance in powder. If you can determine this through ladder testing or chronograph testing and load accordingly most of your variances in powder drop should not even be noticeable.
Bill, I've watched over 20 of your excellent videos. The problem I'm having is trying to get an accurate, consistent powder charge when loading .243 rounds. I'm trying to load 43.5 grains. However, what comes out of the charger is between 43.0 and 43.8. I have reviewed your vid on the powder charger several times. I'm thinking it may be the that the resizing die on a rifle round takes a bit more force and jars the press a bit which may lead to the variance in powder being thrown. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Make mine 90%, 3 gal..He used Hornaday's cleaner in Part 1. Rewind the tape to 3:27 and see all the Hornady spray cans on top of the man's toolbox, over his left shoulder.
Jim, do you use all Hornady dies with your press or do you use other brands for particular jobs?
Ok, question on the height setup. The first time you did it, you set the height until it clicked then lowered the ram and turned the assembly a good half turn before tightening it down. The second time you did not do the extra turn and just tightened it as it was. Am I missing a reasoning for the difference or was this just an oversight?
These videos were made in the middle of the night off the cuff and were made due to request. At the time I did not know I was going to end up with a channel. I made the videos at about 1:00 AM and went to bed. Probably and oversight. I no longer own this press. Highboy

What powder baffle are you using in the Hornady powder dispenser?
I ordered it from Hornady. I find the powder baffle works best with the flake and ball powders. You will just have to experiment with it. When I am running extruded powders I leave it out because it seems to measure a little more accurately. Thanks for posting and I hope you say hello from time to time. Highboy

Highboy76: Thank you for all the Hornady LnL series. All very helpful. I shoot high-power and use the LnL for my practice ammo in 6XC which is a 22-250 necked up to a 6mm. I cannot get the Hornady powder measure to give me accurate throws. I would be happy with 38.5 gr of Ramshot Hunter +/_ 0.5 gr. It starts off ok then after about 10 throws, the charges start decreasing. Have noticed the reading on the micrometer gauge changes, so I readjust it back, and even still the charges start to decrease. I have tightened the allen screw( hand tight). Also having problems with the primer seating high even though i have switched the primer ram to the new cylindrical one. i have tried using the dime under the ram, but really? this shouldn't be the fix. Any help for these problems? Thanks again.
I have quit using my Hornady because I am experiencing issues with not being able to seat past slush and now I am beginning to notice an occasional high primer. I called Hornady and they said they don't guarantee past flush and advised me to use another means of priming like my Redding. Otherwise, they said they cannot help me but, they sent me the dime. The dime threw my timing off so that did not work.
I called Dillon and they said if that happened with their machine they would send a new primer block and that would be that!!! I have been loading on my RL550B and have not looked back since.
The Dillon will throw powder every bit as consistent as the Hornady.

Trying to decide between the 550B and the 650. But since i shoot around 5-6K rounds of rifle a year, leaning towards the 650. I use a Canon camcorder. I have had it several month's and I paid about $180.00 for it. Do not get a camera because when you record with a camera you can only record for 20 minutes because they need to cool down. It you continually video with a camera you will eventually ruin it. You can do some video recording but they are not designed to be used continually for that. Thanks for asking. Highboy
