I cannot thank you enough! I ran about 500 38 specials, then around 1,000 9mil with no issues. I then changed over to 45 colt and noticed the shell plate was not lining up with the primer section properly. Always when the drive hub was at the 11 oclock position, I could not prime properly. Drove me nuts. Was about to call Hornady when I watched your video. (2) 1/8 turns on the left pawl, and now I am rocking!!! Thanks Again!!!!!
i may have the same issue. I made about 5k 38 special with this press. Then, a few years later, I want to start reloading 45 ACP and after changing the under bolt and primer slide to the large one, the primers seeded for about 5 times, and now will not seed. Without a case in the press, it looks like it turns fine and the primer is presenting well, but with a case, I push forward and it will not seed .
Thank you so much for uploading this. You saved my a lot of heartburn. I was having the shell plate not snap to the right on every 5th or 6th down stroke and it was driving me nuts.
Great and informative. I've been tweaking and trying to time my press for weeks with the pawl adjustments, and I believe that I occasionally went too far in my adjustments, or flat kept confusing the 2 pawls. As you stated also, KEEP YOUR ADJUSTMENTS SMALL!! Thanks for posting Jeremy!
Wish you had more videos on the Hornady lock n load ap press, it might be the ol country boy in me myself, but it was a lot easier understanding you than many other videos , thanks again.
Patrick Brady Ha! I definitely hear ya on that one. Glad the videos help. It doesn’t take long and the press will be all set up and you won’t really have to make changes all that often.
Jeremy awesome video. Was having trouble with only one shell plate... Just wasn't indexing. Made the left pawl adjustment as you recommended and good to go. Should have found your video 3 hours prior!
Dude, ill be da????, where have you been all my life. i have had this issue for 6 years, and now you fixed it for me. if you drink i can send to a beer.
YOU Fixed my problem with the primer seating. Now the only issue is 223 cases are loose in the shell plate. I am suspecting a bad plate. I bought this machine because my LEE loader was worn out for my competition loads.
I just bought one of these presses. Installed and set it up over the weekend. Thought I had everything going right, but something caused it to jam, breaking the index wheel and one of the pawls. They're sending replacement parts after I contacted them. And thanks to your video, I'll know what to do about adjusting the pawls when I replace them. Thanks!
Actually you got a pretty good shot there and I am having this very problem I am going to try to fix this frist thing in the morning thank you very much for the help
Nice info. on my press resizing lined up perfectly but on station 5 seems when tapper and crimp, the rounds going up on a slight angle, when on the down stroke it's a little tight. I am reloading 45 acp and have the tapper crimp set. I have the crimp adjusted to 471-472, thoughts?
Don, try removing the eye and look at both of the lock and load bushings, the one in the press and the one on your dye for a burr. If you don't see anything try reinstalling 180 degrees out from where it was before.
So I have 2 reloading kits my main is The RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading kit. My second is the Hornady Lock-N-Load Classic Kit. But my main problem is i keep Finding rust on some parts of my Hornady kit I clean in regularly, use everything I am supposed to to keep it clean and I even do exactly as the Manuel says to clean it. I take very great care of all of my reloading Presses, kits, Gear, Dies, accessories etc. but I keep finding rust on my Hornady classic kit and also on two of my die sets. My question is why? What am I not doing or doing wrong? Everyone I talk to says well You are doing everything you are supposed to but still they keep turning up with rust after even a month of non-use They begin to show signs of rust. I don’t know what I should do to clean the rust off I’ve used gun cleaner and gun oils like the Manuel stated and what should I use to stop It from Happening again? What is the cause I don’t keep Them in places with moisture I even have placed moisture packs to keep moisture out of the stuff.
I was decamping 223 everything working good then all of a sudden the ram will not move but a quarter the way up everything looks tight I have adjusted the Pawls both in and out still nothing. I hope you have encountered this problem thank you in advance.
Have you ever had this issue: the primers will not seed? They fall into place fine, and it appears (without a case) that the primer coming up high enough to seed.... but when I put a case in it just won't seed. Any ideas?
Have you ever had the issue that the primer will not seed. It looks like everything is fine, the primer presents fine, and when empty the primer seems to come up plenty high enough... Then, i put a case in and when I push forward the primer will not seed, Any ideas????
I have had a serious problem with primers not wanting to set up in 9mm brass. New brass . . . it seems like perhaps the brass might be a tad off to the left or the right . . . can't find out which one . . . brass just does not allow the primer to go in smoothly. Perhaps every 3rd or 4th one goes in smoothly . . . the others need serious . . . serious pressure to get them to go in .............. Have any suggestions . . . ideas . . . ????
Dwight Cimino The primer portion of this machine is the one part that seems to get out of whack from time to time. There are little adjustments that need to be made, as described in the video. Keep playing with it and you will dial it in.
@@jeremyminter1283 Actually, Jeremy . . . you are correct. I got frustrated with the brand new brass and primer combination, not having ever tried them before. I fished out some old fired brass . . . and some different primers . . . voila . . . they went together like ice cream and chocolate syrup. Then I played with the problem primers and the old brass . . . they worked most of the time (over 90%) . . . The problem cases did the same with different primers . . . Moral of the story . . . just got one of those rare cases where "these two" components don't work well together. One of life's little mysteries I guess.
These presses have issues, need constant adjustment and cleaning. Shell plates work lose, need a lock washer. My press sat for a year and I can't even raise the ram and advance it, it's locked up. When I removed the shell plate, there was quite a bit of rust around the hole at bottom of shell plate. My press is in my house. If priming is a constant issue, I would hand prime and skip that station. Im switching over to a Dillon. 9mm is too light of a round for this press , powder gets spilled when indexing a lot of people said.
I find the indexing system of this press, based on two small pins (which can break or wear out) really rudimentary and archaic. This is why I ruled out Hornady.

So glad that helped!! It drove me nuts for a while till I was able to figure that out.
You still like your AP press

Excellent video of Hornady press inner workings. Well done !
You the man! This video just cleared up my only issue with this press. The alignment. Thank you for the good information.
I was having issues with plate indexing and this video cleared things up. Great info!
Very useful. I had exactly the same issues and resolved them exactly the same way you did. This video gave me reassurance. Thank you
Excellent explanation, thank you. Have just purchased this loader and had indexing issues which are now resolved after watching your video. Cheers
Thank you so much for uploading this. You saved my a lot of heartburn. I was having the shell plate not snap to the right on every 5th or 6th down stroke and it was driving me nuts.
Thank you for the informative video. New to reloading and did a little man handling with my press when I forgot to lube a couple rounds.
Wow, I've had the same exact problems. Wish I would have seen you video first. Great advice, thanks!

never mind a case of beer.
Ha! So glad this helped!
Just what I needed to get things going right, thank you for your video.
good video. I´ve had some of those problems too. Fixed them the same way you showed here. Good job!!

I bought this machine because my LEE loader was worn out for my competition loads.
I was so tired of having to push the plate to the next position. Thank You
I was starting to get genuinely pissed at my press for not finishing it's rotation. Thank you for the solution!
Sam Zoerb
Glad that worked for you. Simple fix, as long as you know about it.
You’re a gentleman and a scholar.
Thank you so much for posting this!!!! I was about to throw my press thru the wall. Works like a champ now!!
Richard Trojanowski
Yes. That was very frustrating until figuring out that simple little step.

Glad to hear!! That was frustrating.
Super helpful, I just got one of these presses and it has that exact problem
You helped my adjust my shell plate thank you sir!
Actually you got a pretty good shot there and I am having this very problem I am going to try to fix this frist thing in the morning thank you very much for the help
Thx for material, I already broke one of them and now trying to fix plate movement...
For the powder dispenser, I put a thumb screw horizontal in to the frame.
Great advice, thank you.
My way to fix the powder measure twisting I've put a soft spring between the powder measurer and the decaping tool.
Thank you for sharing your video.
Usually when the primer feed assembly gets stuck. The little nut under the plate that holds the primer pusher is backing out. Just tighten it back up.

Great tip! Thanks!

Unfortunately, without being able to see it in person and mess with it, I’m not too good at figuring it out. I’m a hands on person...

Remove the O ring on the powder drop and replace with a 22x3 mm O ring....won't have to worry about it getting loose again..
This helped alot! Thank you!!
Great points for a prospective buyer.

That handle will glide if everything is going good. If it does not run, shut down and fix it.
