nobody’s giving credit to the drummer for LOCKING THAT SHIT DOWN!!!! those entrances during the alto solo are tough, great job keeping time and his playing was amazing. the full ensemble was incredible and wow those players are talented!
@@bandit916 idk man it wasnt bad but nothing to shout about. his timing was decent but his dynamics were lacking and (though subjective as it may be) i thought his choice of fill and style wasn't always appropriate: ergo, bare minimum - he complemented the style and kept time at a level that engaged his band and had generally acceptable musical choices. maybe my standards are high and for someone his age (which is about the same as me) it's not common, but simultaneously it's hardly rare
Wow amazing alto sax solo, not a lot of people our age can blow over changes like that. Amazing double time and diminished scales. That solo was truly very mature and authentic. Also love that dark alto tone, very impressed.
you should hear the William H taft Jazz ensemble, they won 2 out of their 3 jazz festivals, and hosted their own jazz fest, killer lead players, their Sax fronts should be labeled “Taft Jazz” with the logo in the middle, I recommend that band, crazy good
I can definitely hear the quotes from the Leo P BBC proms Moanin’ bari solo and I LOVE IT! As a bari player, I could only dream about playing Moanin’. I’ve been begging my jazz director and he’s finally said maybe this year (my senior year). Also, as a former alto player and musician, I can definitely appreciate the talent from the alto player. He totally shredded that solo! Excellent job to the whole band :)
what an alto solo! Altisimmo and all of that, wow outstanding. love the progression of that solo of that blistering speed incorperated and keeping time! wonderful
That was actually the most nuts alto solo I've ever heard from a highschool band. That's some real talent and love for music out of that solo. Keep it up!
Look at how these kids are all vibing and dancing to the music, and looking at their fellow soloing bandmates with wonder and pride. This is a band that gives a damn about both the music and each other, and that's why they sound so good.
Fellow Bari sax player here. Man killed it. Wish my high school jazz band could play this, sadly, we have no trombones this year(we’re a small school). Maybe someday… watching stuff like this just continues to prove how amazing band is.
That was amazing. High school band?! I could only wish my school had a jazz band, let alone one sounding this good. Massive props to ALL of the talented players in this video. Very happy.
Dunno if this was intentional, but I heard a little bit of the saxophone riff from "Tequila" from 0:10 to 0:13 . Nonetheless the Bari at the beginning was phenomenal!
@@hincapiej4 fr he attempted Ronnie cubers and Leo ps solos but kinda butchered them. I can tell he’s a good charismatic player. It would’ve been better if he had made his own thing and killed that instead
That bari sax has been waiting for this moment since he discovered moanin
That is me rn
@@ThePickIeGod ME TOOOOOOO
literally! Us bari sax's rarely get any solos!
not every bari sax player responding to this lol

i feel like that's the bare minimum tho...
dude was way more than the bare minimum
@@jwlsiee nope.. he did much more than that, and even the “expected” part is pretty challenging.

This is a HIGH SCHOOL jazz band!?!? They're playing with some great energy and that fat tone coming from the bari was 🔥🎷
Only complaint is balance issues but that probably just the recording
@@mrmrmeta3698 Probably, the camera can really hear the barri 2 times which is a bit odd they sound pretty great overall
@@oneoddcanadian9468 I can hear the bari thru out the whole thing....
I'm a Bari playing and I am completely stunned
high school jazz bands are good, wdym
Props to this high school director for allowing the jazzband to play together and independently like a real jazzband
YES
Bari and alto sax solos were absolutely insane 😭😭 that bari player is a beast
i love their attention to detail, implementing the "uh" and "yeah" in the beginning
Me too
That alto sax solo was insane
Thank you!
When exactly?

It's not very jazzy, though, it's too straight in my opinion.

one of the best sounding high school jazz bands i've ever heard, nice job!

4:10 that was powerful, you can see it touched the soul of the bari sax player. Amazing playing right there
As a jazz drummer, I appreciate the triplets from the bari sax player 😂👏🏻
because the song is called “moanin”?
they’re not triplets, its called swing 8th notes
I LOVE the saxophonist in the green dress. She's someone with a real love for music
I like how she's dancing and having fun with it
she was playing tenor saxphone

Love the energy that the bari sax brought. You can really tell he’s passionate about what he does.
This is legendary for HS band. Those sax and that drummer are insane, but it wouldn't come together without the rest of the band.
One of my favorite jazz charts with a good Bari and alto solo. This high school band was crazy.
Look at how these kids are all vibing and dancing to the music, and looking at their fellow soloing bandmates with wonder and pride. This is a band that gives a damn about both the music and each other, and that's why they sound so good.
As a drummer in a highschool jazz band Im watching this guy play and realizing I need to practice more😭🤩🤩
This is a High School band? Oh my goodness, they’re marvellous!
you know its gonna be good when the director is Jack Whitehall
Rhythm section on absolute FIRE
STRAIGHT UP
Guy on alto absolutely shreds
the bari does too but my god that alto solo was crazy
THE SAXOPHONE SOLO AT THE BEGINNING WAS WILDDD I LOVED IT
These kids ROCK!!! They truley feel the music! There no fakes whatsoever. I Loved this!
The conductor is digging all of it so hard and that makes this video that much better. Great teacher and mentor I'm sure

Great job! Really amazed at how close this is to the Leo P performance. Excellent job!
that bari n ALTO SHREDDED on those solos
Wow, this was phenomenal!!! Incredible work for a high school band. Hats off to all of the performers, especially the bari and alto!!!
band directors must be doing everything right

I played this my freshman year of high school and it was so fun. Y’all sound amazing❤️
As a freshman I played this a couple weeks ago as my first big solo and I loved it
What was the name of the arrangement
need to get my jazz teacher to let us play this
I've always loved this song
great job best highschool performance I've ever witnessed
What a great job! You guys killed it, ill definitely show this to my students!
i love that you can tell they're all having so much fun and that they're proud of their work, great to see
This looks like such a chill band, their energy matches so well
simply incredible.
Love it, well done guys!!!!👍👌
no one is talking about how good the drummer is
Amazing! I want to play this song with my band now haha
A great tribute to Charles Mingus & Ronnie Cuber am they both RIP
Also let take a second and appreciate the bassist !! bro was going crazyyyyyyy !!
I remember seeing you guys here when I was a freshman
Bro that Bari was straight vibin 🔥
I love it!
I wish my HS jazz band was HALF as good as you guys! You rock!!

That’s a real good sax section
Damn bro your phrases are so good I hear a ton of modern stuff

This bari sax player did a great job playing the leo P solo from the BBC concert
Love the director’s little dance moves
Awesome performance
wow that was actually addicting I didn’t wanna click off lol that was great
That bari player is absolutely killing it
Got confused for a second because my school is also called MHS, and I was like “Wait, we never played this” lol
great balance here 🔥🔥
good god, look how quick that bass players fingers are during the Alto solo
The crowd in the beginning even sounding like the actual song too 💀
Naw this was extremely well done. And for a high school band 🤯
A nice combination between the original mingus big band recording and the leo p version, approved 👌
Mingus big band recording isn’t the original
Awesome performance! Had a great time listening to it :)
What is this style of jazz called by the way?
Dunno if this was intentional, but I heard a little bit of the saxophone riff from "Tequila" from 0:10 to 0:13 . Nonetheless the Bari at the beginning was phenomenal!
WOW !!
bro that bari player is funky
I love the bari part in this. once i get my bari back from the shop ill be back to playing stuff like this.
Bro on the bari having the time of his life lol
I wish I was that double bassist right there. I always find myself imagining how I would play during the performance.
Transcription of Bari solo at beginning?
Bari sax having way too much absolutely shredding his part
How many do you usually send to all-state? Seems like it would be a good amount.
Ya'll got the sheet music for this?
better than my high school
This is amazing, I just wish it was recorded better. The band doesn't sound as full and separated as it would with better and more equipment
Alto man was absolutely filthy 😮

Honestly better than the Charles Mingus original. This is fantastic!
Absolutely banging performance, only quibble is I'd like the tenor to be mic'd up a bit better, but really nailed it.
Man, you guys even have an upright bass, the best my jazz band got was two bass guitars! So cool, and great job to everyone!
At ssome point I had to deal with keyboard bass. That always felt off to me
that bari was very leo p inspiredit was a good solo for how hard it is
