The Animals House of the Rising Sun Old School Computer Remix

- My last couple of videos I built a couple of robot bands (yeah! machines that play actual instruments). These videos didn't fair as well so i decided to go back to the basics and create a video staring my trustly old HP Scanner and a scrappy old hard drive which was converted into a robotic drum machine. For this video i recorded the audio separately so i could mix it down because the HP scanner isn't very loud. No effects such as delay and reverb have been used. i was very pleased how the hard-drive drums turned out and they sound great. i will definitely use it in my next video.
i would like to give a shoutout to James Houston who (i think) was the first person to use multiple legacy computer equipment in conjunction to make a song. Be sure to take the time to view his RUclips video "Big ideas: Don't get any - Radiohead cover by James Houston".
This is what the machines do when nobody is in the lab
This is what I do when nobody's in the lab.
Today's Special
David R - That Made Me Feel All 'Apocalypse'!
They "jam"? 🤣
Bruh
That solo...
I've never had romantic feelings for an oscilloscope before
Magic then that day is the first day you ever truly loved Sir and or Madame
desposyy It’s totally OK to love your machine
Dude, scopes only measure. That's a function generator hooked up to a scope for visuals.
ok Plankton
11 years now. wow. I still come back to this video every once in a while.
The ONLY time when you hear HDD head clicks AND feel a sense of happiness.
+darkstatehk Thats true, because when you hear this sound comming from a HDD, this sound means death
I don't know, I still get a little nervous.
Borkins McBorkBork Well the hard drive was clearly either already dead or just too small for convenient use so he made something more convenient out of it
*hears my 5k hours 160gb full pre-failure wd blue clicking*
Nah, i'm good, xp is still running fine
Edit: 2021 and its still working! Slow af as aways.
RUclips just asked me to rate this comment and explain why I rated it like I did
This is what computers in the computer lab at your school do when no ones there
Oh nice that was an hour ago. I do believe so, or at a different level. I think it's the science lab or the industrial lab or like the library or something.
XD lol ikr.
"Oh shit! Quiet! They're back!"
The Tyttuutface Computer story confirmed.
OptimizticPizza yep
that oscilloscope with the facemelting solo
+Shak3speare :D
holy shit tho
Every time I see this it brings tears. This is brilliant. The artistry is outstanding.
Many years later and I still adore this version of the song the most.
WOOOOOO! DRIVE IT HOME OSCILLOSCOPE!!
OSCILLOSCOPE SOLO!
"bleepbloopbleeeeepbeepboopboop"
2017 I can't get this unque tune out of my head,so I'm here again
Yuan Ye ikr so true
2019... Same
2021 hi
2022 still here
Many hours spent doing this. Thanks for sharing this great interpretation of this great classic.
My dad showed me this video when I was 6. Now I'm 17 and re-found this. Nostalgy.
the hard drive drum-kit is excellent :D
A classic that has to be rewatched from time to time
This is the song that plays during the execution of the last human at the mechanical hands of our robotic overlords.
I WOULDN'T EVEN FUCKING MIND
Arnold Random Stuff In that case I guess the machines shall come for you first
Would probably make our imminent extinction more tolerable -- why not?
The best part: osciloscope solo
the oscilloscope isn't what's making the noise. The oscilloscope provides a graph of the signal. The noise is a sine wave, likely generated from a breadboard configuration or a midi keyboard.
This proves that even old outdated hardware can still be useful, even if not in the way it was originally intended.
THAT'S CALLED RECYCLING PEOPLE!!!
Anyway, nice job
+bjsdemon isnt it called reusing because recycling is using the materials again.
kab hes all the same really
In someway he is still reusing the materials just not in the typical way that recycling is considered
Example taking the middle of melting it down into tin cans Doomed to hold someone’s Coca-Cola then get thrown on the side of the road
Reusing* actually. Recycling would be to melt all of them down and build another thing
thanks, but there is nothing I can do. maybe I can convince myself that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Awsome job sir.! 😉

Nice.
+Woggy Boy What happened, why did he say that?
Nice! Id love to be your apprentice. It's sad really, most people throw "old" stuff in the garbage. I can't even find a tape cassette player now.
Came looking for this masterpiece of the internet history after listening Paweł Zadrożniak's FLOPPOTRON interpretation.
After all these years, this is still the best mechanical cover I've heard. The osciloscope solo is legendary. Never gets old.
Okay! I usually don't leave comments, but that was simply awesome! The skill and the effort that must have gone into building this and the sheer imagination to let you think of it in the first place! All I can say is Bravo! And I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
MY MIND JUST BLOWN OFF TO SPACE
They'll be playing stuff like this when they finally rise up from scrapyards and take the world as their own!
The scanner seems to be an eight note or so late.
JJ Warner well the scanner's motor isn't really that "instant", it's still amazing how he did it doe
yeah, still sounds cool though
Its artistic expression. from a printer.
Those machines gave us all a message this day. That message was, Goodbye.
Cool!
So this is why I see people buying old office stuff at flea markets XD
No, really mate. Well done.
This is the greatest thing I've seen in quite a while!
I never know why but every time I watch this video is gives me some existential feelings and really reminds me of my mortality. No clue why.
laughed really hard when i heard the scanner
OMG THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER
Sounds 8 bit. And awesome.
Completely... On both counts...
I'd damn near pay to have an album of just these kinds of machine covers of classic songs...
This is one of the BEST videos i have ever seen in youtube ever!!
This an amazing talent!!
Vic Torg - The 90`s way of expressing the overwhelming feeling of joy and likeing a song that much, that he's flooding the keyboard with binary code language...
Every few years I remember this video, and I just have to come back for another listen. It's been more than 10 years and I still love what you created here.
wow, this one is just brilliant!
I love that one person (@bd594) had all the skills required to make this. I don't just mean the electromechanical know how and 8-bit computer programming, but also the knowledge of music, directing, audio/video engineering, and -- above all -- aesthetics.
This is so fucking amazing. Respect to you, sir! Made my day!
I clapped after this video finished without even realizing I'm alone. This song gets me all choked up everytime I hear it but, like this? EPIC. You, BD594, are a treasure. Well done!
un-fucking-believable! congrats, mate! beautiful! awesome!
"What kind of music do you like?"
Me: "It's complicated."
Here's a few tips, why not give them something to hit to serve as a bass drum? That would add depth to the songs. It would take a few extra lines of code sure, but the music would benefit from that huge boost of dynamic range, and who knows, maybe you can write your own songs for it? And maybe include a few shots panning over the whole thing showing all the components in concert playing together.
James Travis looking a bit to deep into this, don't ya think?
+jdroo no this is actual music not something silly.
music, can in fact, be "silly", and still be music.
jdroo you know what i meant
I don't know why this appears on my feed again, but 12 years later it's still the best!
2:07 best part, make more videos with the model 460
Still one of my favorite videos here on the 'tube. Makes me happy every time I hear it. I even have it as a ring tone. Sometimes I don't bother to pick up the phone, just to listen too the tune. Thanks ever so much! :)
5 years later, and it's still my ringtone :)
And it still give me great pleasure. So thank you so much!
Kinda want that ringtone me-self
After 8 years........ Happiness
One of my favorites! Love it!!! The scanner sounds so cute!
to this day that HDD sound gives me chills
FennecTECH *Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick*
I always find myself coming back to this video at least once a year 🤣
You sir deserve 2,400,000 views
This is, by far, the coolest freaking thing I've seen in a long time. I shall now have to check out these 'other videos' you mention. Nice work! ;)
skynet has dreams too!
I’ve seen this 7years ago when I was little
YOU HAVE NO IDEA ! HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING TO FIND THIS VIDEO OMFG
FINALLY
I
HAVE
FOUND
IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome Back!
These videos are the reason why I have an oscilloscope. I also saw this video in 2011 when I was little (I had the better luck of remembering the title though.)
respect!
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!
You must not see much
318 people have no understanding of hardware, software and the mind required to make them work. Oh, also they have no taste of good music.
It's surprising, the number of people who go around with sticks up their asses.
If seen this for the 1st time in 2015 and randomly came back like 9 years later
Can your robot band play Raining Blood
Sounds pretty in-*tem*-idating.
Girom Christian Calica Nice ahri profile pic
I absolutely love your contraptions, beautiful creations
im going to use this music in one of my projects you will get all credit flipping awsome
Johnny Ch. That's called plagiarism.
No, it's called 'copyright infringement'.
Stephen Jones depends if he makes a profit
Stephen Jones depends if he makes a profit
Sam Noneofyourbisnus Wrong. It IS copyright infringement, profit or not. Learn the copyright laws.
I think the most impressive thing for me is the drumset made from the hard drive, next up is the printer, but having the parts move perfectly in time is just astounding.
Can we call this industrial??? :-P
This is true hacking. This is wizardry. I can't get enough, I smile every time I watch it. And it's beautifully filmed. Bravo. And double kudos for the impeccable cleanliness of everything.
how did you get the hard drive drum machine going?
Them weird solenoids
0:47 imagine having a heart that when it's monitored it has that melody
At 0:15, what is that thing? I have never heard of or seen anything like that before.
Is a HP flatbed scanner with the top cover and glass removed, if you are referring to the previous thing, it's an oscilloscope :3
Kuurisu Meipuru Thanks for that, that flatbed scanner was the only thing I didn't know.
HP Scanjet 5C
Miia Mi those scanners are great for music because their voice coil there’s another channel that puts them to their best potential with a thing called the floppatron
"You enter a room, there are four men; two of them are walking in circles, and the other two are playing the drums and a synth. They are playing an harmonious and great song, and you cannot help but feel immersed in the song. What do you do?
>Escape the room
>Join them
>Look at inventory
>Stay in the room_"
Do this with some Steam Powered Giraffe songs.
Ive been listening to this for years. Love it everytime.
cuando dije que hago música con ordenador no me refería a esto.
How can people dislike this? It's just amazing. Good job. I think it's ART to play printer and hard drive song. Thumbs up!!!
Your video was freebooted by this Facebook page without even crediting you:

Might be a decade old but still cool as shit. You sir have my respect.
I used to have an HP Scanjet and that sound makes me think of it instantly.
I subscribed when the singing part started. Only a few seconds needed to discover the Coolness of this Cover!
Holy crap they need to make more remixes like this
+1 saw that on FB tried searching for original song, NOT disappointed !! YOU ARE AWEZOM3!
Man, almost two years later and I'm still coming back.
:O ....... I don't even know what to say!!! That's the most most original idea I've ever seen. Keep it goin!!!!
This is the best of two worlds, great song and entertaining the hardware geek inside me!
The sound of the instruments adds such a fitting tone to the song. Well done!
Havent seen a O scope since i was a little kid..
Nice find!
That 460 rocked the Organ Solo :p
The speed in which the scanner moves provides the tone.
in all honesty, I have the uttermost respect for people who make music with computer hardware.
Absolutely Beautiful. I almost started tearing up for some reason. Maybe cause it reminds me of childhood movie little toaster for some reason.
Your video now is in my favorites. Good job, pal!
This video is an evergreen.
Way....way....too cool for words!!
somebody got mad bored at work but this is one of the coolest things i have seen!
That was just nasty. Deserves all the likes in the world. Good job
I can't express in words how effing in love with this I am. beautiful. Thank you.
soo cool i love the old scope and test equipment
That was by far the coolest thing i have seen and/or heaed in years
Don't know what to say...
Just beautiful.
Good job mate.
This is sooo cool that I chocked me up when I saw it. Between my love for new and old tech and Eric-B and The Animals====>>>>Epic!
Wait till my dad sees this! Thanks dude!
Epic is loving a song so much that performing it with your own skills whatsoever.
This is so amazing, I have no words to describe. Marvellous, beautiful, simply great.
that is seriously cool man. thanks for sharing and keep on rocking.
This is one of the best things EVER, when art meets engineering.
simply Brilliant. I enjoyed every second. thankyou
