The plot of Prendergast coming in early for Frawley, with both Byrnes out...
Fawley has that calmness Byrne did very well.
Without any doubt Ciarán Frawley is the number 1 outside half back at Leinster. The two Byrne brothers and Prendergast are definitely behind him right now.
Ross Byrne is still the number 1 in the pecking order. Ciaran Frawley I feel like has done more than enough to be in 2nd position. Harry has had a rough couple of years with injuries and I thought he actually played really well at the weekend. There’s genuinely too many outhalves to choose from and they’re all playing very well. Prendergast is still young enough to bide his time and gain some more valuable experience. He needs to get a feel of the the tale end of the URC first and then next year we can see if he progresses. It’s a tricky one. At the end of the day it’s really up to whichever player puts their hand up and takes that 10 shirt and plays the best week in week out, consistently over a period of time.
Frawley. Been saying it since the Maori game last year. Destiny written all over him.
Frawley is the man. Considering the limited game time he has had at 10 in the past year he has been magnificent in the past 3 weeks. Leinster will not win a Heineken Cup with Ross or Harry Byrne. Ross Byrne did not stand up in the final this year when we needed that drop goal. Frawley was unlucky not to score a drop goal yesterday. If Frawley is dropped to the bench again he should seriously consider leaving Leinster and go somewhere where he will be get game time, and be appreciated for the class act he is, because he has been and is been messed around by Leinster.
Frawley is the best 10 in Ireland. I would have picked him for the WC ahead of sexton. It was the injury that prevented that happening unfortunately.
troll
It looks like at least one of the five No 10s at Leinster will have to move on, and Ross Byrne should be one of them, as he’s the most limited. Doesn’t present a real running threat, so defences don’t have to worry too much about him. Maybe a move to Ulster?
Ross Byrne just isn’t good enough to steer Leinster to big prizes consistently, as shown in the final last season. He is a dependable space filler, a solid link in the chain when Leinster are on the front foot and killing teams but in other situations can’t change anything. I have no idea why people are still promoting him. If he was playing for a less dominant team - say Ulster he would have significant difficulty even getting into the international squad.
For their own and Ireland’s sake Leinster need to back Frawley. His skill set and physicality make his upper limit far far higher than Ross Byrne, even if he isn’t at it yet.
He’s a good player to have in the URC but comes up a bit short at the very top level of Europe and international level. Frawley is a really good player and deserves a run. Being able to play a couple of other positions doesn’t help him in some ways. Harry Byrne played well when he was on but always seems to get injured. Frawleys injury record hasn’t been great either. Prendergast has immense potential but I don’t know how many games he will get this season. Also where is Charlie Tector? Haven’t heard much on him lately. He looked good too.
Whatever Leinster decide on the 10 shirt - whoever they decide to be the main man - it's what Ireland do that interests me. And I hope Ireland doesn't anoint a designated No 10 Saint and put so much emphasis on his role that we suffer yet again from lack of tried and tested International depth in the position if the Saint gets injured or is just gassed.
We should plan for having and playing at least 2 10s in top International games...... all the way to the next WC. Not One who gets all the big games - at least two, with game time fairly evenly divided through the four years. I'm tired of the unquestioning sainthood we bestow on certain 10s and then suffer when replacements aren't trusted..
Leinster are between a rock and a hard place. They actually for once have too much talent at the 10 jersey
Ross Byrne
Ciaran Frawley
Harry Byrne
Sam Prendergast.
I think due to his versatility and ability to play full back and centre, Frawley is going to be the utility back/fly half off the bench. Right now, when they are all fit, Ross Byrne is your starting 10. In 2 years time Sam Prendergast is Leinster's 10 for the next decade plus. I think Leinster eventually the pecking order will be:
Sam Prendergast
Ciaran Frawley
Harry Byrne
Ross Byrne (Eventually ends up at Ulster)
I can't see Leinster holding onto al four fly halves and keeping them all happy. I can definitely see a move for either Ross or Harry in the next few seasons in order to get regular game time.
Ross is 28. Ciaran just went 26 this month and Harry is 24. Now Ross is likly a starter where frawley offers a running threat a huge boot and is less of a defensive worry. Frawley was the player of the month last month and in the last two weeks was the match winner leinster need to stoke this flame not snuff it out. Injuries happen that's how sheehan userpt Kellaher and how furlong took over a very good marty moore. You take Your chance. Frawley is doing that he had to be rewarded for it. Or it will kill squad morale and just drive the feeling that the byrne brothers are getting game time because their dad contributes financially to leinster now that's not true but if it looks like frawley is being blocked then that narrative will start.
The Ireland men's 15 pays for Irish rugby. Send one of these guys to Connacht or Ulster where they can get some serious game time, otherwise one of them will surely end up going to France...
Did the lad on the right just get out of bed :)
Have either the potential to be the next Sexton ? Is Burns still worth considering ?
Burns most definitely not in contention
Burns? This is a joke, right?
Burns is levels below
One corner has flyhalves that beat the current back to back champions cup winners last weekend and the other corner lost to bath
Looking at it from an Ireland perspective, move on from Ross Byrne. Personally I prefer Frawley and Prendergast
