    Sweet variation on securing the line, this is the first video I’ve seen to take account for that. Definitely going to add the 3 hole patterns to my bag of how-to’s! KJ5DVL, 73!

    I have seen a few diffrent forums that say that your ground plane should be slightly shorter than your hot lead.

      Never over think a dipole. A balun in not necessary.

  • @skitmen
    @skitmen Месяц назад +1

    Hi. Don't you need a BALUN transformer to unbalanced coax connected to balanced antenna? I think you do my friend.

  • @Hanesy

    Hello, by trimming it which one did you cut? The antenna? Or the ground? Or both wires?

    • @OtisDyson

    How do you get the left/right wire up in the tree? Do you toss something up in a tree like the middle section?

  • @TheMicroTrak

    I know people love to have an SO-239 on these antennas, but have you considered just epoxying your coax into the antenna and saving the 3dB connector loss? Forgive me my blasphemy...Anyway, its a great antenna, simple and effective!

    • @OtisDyson
      @OtisDyson  Год назад

      I agree, but then you have to use a 25 foot or 50 foot coax that you can never use on anything else. I think the convenience and storage may outweigh the loss. I guess we can increase the power to compensate.😊 It would however make a great video!!

    • @feeatlastfeeatlast5283
      @feeatlastfeeatlast5283 11 месяцев назад +3

      Connector loss of 3 db? 50 connectors in series would not have 3 db of loss. 3 db of loss is half your power. With 50 watts of transmitter power you would not be able to touch the connector without fire resistant gloves.

    • @markbruechert9967
      @markbruechert9967 4 месяца назад

      Insertion loss for an SO239 socket coupled to a pl259 plug is no more than 0.1 db. Where are you getting 3 db loss on an SO239 ? Mark VK3PDG

    You didn't show if you glue the caps for the three ends ... the legs & feed into the tee,when the wiring is completed ?

    • @michaelspain7621
      @michaelspain7621 Месяц назад

      Great innovation/ creative...but without pvc adhesive there will be stress on the solder connections when mounted !?

  • @chrishale4010
    @chrishale4010 11 месяцев назад +1

    What was the final measurement of the wire that was cut? And are you measuring from the cap to the end of the wire? Are you including the wire that is on the inside of the tee?
    Thanks for the video I’ll be making one for sure. K4PWI

    Newbie question. Does the final measurement include from the centre plug to the tip of the wire including the locking S turns?

    • @OtisDyson
      @OtisDyson  3 месяца назад +1

      It may effect it minutely. That's why I cut it a little long at first. Then take readings and shorten as needed.

    I am a newbie fixing to get my tech and would rather build my own antennas rather than just buy everything. I do have a tech background in aviation so building things is rather easy for me plus I actually learn things. great little video. one question I have is how would a toroid figure into a dipole antenna build?

    You spent all that time with expensive bit trying to install a connector you don't need but you don't have a choke balun?

    • @OtisDyson
      @OtisDyson  9 месяцев назад

      You can use any bit. I guess I always hear my daddy in my ear about if you're gonna do it...do it right. 🙂As far as the choke, I use a third party choke and wasn't showing it. The making of the antenna was the goal. Blessings my friend. It's all good.
