Levon is playing with no pressure. As a last minute replacement, he is simply enjoying himself with speculative though brilliant sacrifices much to our entertainment. 😊

He's literally said the same thing about Fischer, Tal, Anish, Magnus, Anand, Ivanchuk, and even a lot of the old masters like Morphy and several others of that early era of chess.

I just imagine Levon sipping his morning coffee and receiving a call to be a last minute replacement & saying why not it will be fun.
It's what makes for legendary stories sometimes !

I think that, paradoxically, what makes Levon an amazing attacker is his abbility to spot all the incoming attacks and prevent them way before they become a problem. Like a very precise counterpuncher. Love to see him play

Nice to see Levon using his bishop the way Fischer used to. He still performs magic with his other pieces, but when all the smoke settles the seemingly docile bishop is staring down all the key squares and just crushes any hopes the opponent had at defending.

    Levon too strong this tournament

  • @xethnyrrow
    @xethnyrrow 2 месяца назад

When I saw that light bishop tucked away I knew it was going to be a factor later on. I was hoping for an agadmator, "let's not forget about our good friend, the bishop" comment but alas we were not so fortunate this time.
Maybe Levon should follow the Hikaru formula of becoming a streamer, "retiring" from professional chess. Then he crush opponents because there's no pressure to win like this tournament.

7:06 What makes the whole line possible, is Anish's rook on e7. Otherwise Anish could just capture the knight with Qxf2... but now his rook is hanging.
Which is funny, because he just moved the rook there.
Basically Levon tricked him big time: "Qe1. You think you can pin my knight? I dare you. I double dare you"

What is remarkable is that at the end the White Queen only had to defend a 3x3 box in the corner and she still couldn't do it.
Engines have no sense of style. It certainly saw what Levon did but because grabbing the a pawn scored 0.001 more or whatever on its evaluation that is what it would do.

Levon might wear funny looking shirts and play goofy looking chess.
But make no mistake. He's a former 2800 player and Blitz and Rapid world champion.
On the other hand, Anish is the most handsome chess player in the multiverse, so hard to say who is better.

Why don't Fabi, Nepo & Hikaru buy out Liren with permission from FIDE?
Each of the 3 pays 333,333 USD, and then they have a playoff where winner faces Gukesh.
    (Or 499,999 USD.)
Fabi & Nepo were about to bet 1m USD on 15+0 with Hans & Nodirbek, so surely 333,333 isn't a problem.
I'll tell you a secret: For 2023, Liren bought out Magnus for 0 USD.
