  • 1 year review/thoughts on my 14oz. Winning Gloves and how they have held up to consistent heavy bag use including Pros & Cons.
    Correction - Not "tissue paper" but toilet paper (folded up) or gauze pads
    UPDATE AT THE RISK OF SOUNDING LIKE A HYPOCRITE
    To be honest some of my opinions have changed slightly since making the video. I may make another one in the future to address these issues.
    To answer your question, I still believe that Lace up gloves will always offer superior protection when compared to their Velcro counterpart, especially in the case of Winning gloves since their standard Velcro strap is rather thin.
    At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I believe 16oz. would be fine to use on the heavy bag, especially if you are a heavy puncher. When I say this I am only talking about Winning gloves because even though they might be 16oz. gloves, they feel lighter than 16oz. gloves from other manufacturers because of the way the padding is distributed. If we are talking about other manufactures than I stand by what i said earlier in that I believe 16oz. gloves may compromise form.
    All I can say is that after owning a 10, 12, 14, 16 oz. winning gloves, my first purchase of 14oz. black Velcro Winning gloves that I reviewed in this video are still my favorite and go to pair of gloves for any time I hit the heavy bag/aqua bag etc. To be completely honest I haven't used the 10oz gloves on the heavy bag since.
    As an update, the 14oz gloves are still holding up great and while there is no doubt that the padding has compressed, they still offer superior protection for my hands and whatever complaints I have made in my original video regarding my knuckles was a temporary problem that I no longer have after letting my hands fully heal.

    So, to any one stumbling on this video I just received my MS-500B's (14oz Velcro) which are the same as in this video. I am coming from a pair of Velcro Cleto Reyes 14 OZ gloves (Note, these are broken in).
    Out of the box, the Winnings have a very small hand compartment, like very small. It's a serious squeeze to fit your hands in with the NG-2 knuckle gel pad like in this video and my wraps. The wrist protection is basically not there and coming from the Cleto's its going to be hard to adjust. My wrist was just so locked in with the Cletos and the Winnings feel very loose (again this is the velcro version, I understand lace-up is different as I've heard).
    I'll come back to this comment and answer any questions anyone has, but as of right now I haven't experienced anything super crazy in terms of significant comfort levels over my Cletos. The padding on the Cletos is 'harder' but it can take a beating. I worry about the longevity of the padding in the winnings. However, the winnings are SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than my Cletos. I can definitely say it's going to help with form and shoulder stamina down the line. I'm going to use them and report back at the end of the year. Feel free to ask any questions.

      Hi DinaussarGaming, how is it going with the Winning after breaking them in for the last 5 months? I'm looking at either getting the Winning MS-600-B or the Cleto Reyes Extra Padding. After your experience with both, would you say the Winning is worth spending twice the cost? Do you think the Cleto Extra Padding version would be a more appropriate contender against the Winning as compared to the Cleto original version? I would use them as an all purpose glove since I can't buy multiple version, but I have Fairtex BGV1's now and have already injured my knuckles with those and want more protection so I can keep punching without hurting myself! Thanks!

      @@sm208 After quite a while, I recommend going with the Winning. The padding has held up fantastic and the hand compartment has broken in well. It still is a squeeze with a lot of pressure on my fingertips but I recommend the winning. Get the 16oz winning gloves (velcro or any)

    Well done. I’m on my fourth pair of these gloves (12oz, 14oz, and two 16oz) and while they’re amazing, for me they consistently last almost exactly one year before the knuckle pain becomes a distraction. The winning knuckle guards have helped but I still consider these gloves to have a short lifespan for the price.

      Sabas Super Soft for bag work . I have sore knuckles too. The solution is to buy a some EVA foam sample on Ebay. Cut up a portion . Place one BELOW the knuckles. Not over it . That way, the eva foam takes much of the hit before the knuckles . You can cut up 3/4 of an inch wide by over 3" long.

    I've had a pair of Reyes 16 oz for over a year and I do everything with it from mitt to spar. Haven't find any problem with padding. But I really dislike the thumb placement on Reyes so just bought a pair of winning 16oz today. I tried both the winning 14 and 16oz in store and didn't find that much of a difference in terms of bulkiness, the 16oz winning is much sleeker than Reyes. Anyway, I'll get another 14oz reyes for bag and mitt and only keep the winning for spar. Thanks for the review man

    i come from a country were boxing gloves are insanely expensive, so we need to make gloves last, specially if they are 300$ worth. So we dont use the gloves on the heavy bag because we know that the heavy bag damages the stuffing way quicker than anything else, specially if youre heavy, i dont know how heavy you are, but if your gloves are hurting your hands on the heavy bag, you should try the 16oz and i can guarantee you that the pillows will work perfectly for years.

    I've had wrist pain since the first day I've started to box. I compete in amateur boxing and train 4-5 days a week. I've had Hawaiian fight gear 14oz, ringside heritage 16oz, and now have power lock 16 oz everlast. My wrist pain only have stopped after using winnings 16 oz... The pain is still there but it's significantly subsided to wear I can now lift weights without feeling pain. Only problem I've had with the gloves were the thumbs.. They are too small, when I hit the bag or mitts always have pain on my thumb, maybe I'm not turning my hands right but it idk...once after sparring my left thumb nail bruised and had blood under the mail from contact. But overall, I'm not one to follow hype and say something because everyone else is saying it. Really wouldn't train with any other glove. Would like to try grants tho lol.. My two go to gloves are winnings and everlast power locks because the new black gold combo. However my wrist pain started to come back after using my new power locks.

    Ring to Cage makes a good approximation of a Winning Glove called the C 17. No, it's not Winning, but it will last you a year or two on the heavy bag, and at the end of it, you won't be out 400 bucks. It's more like a hundred. Personally, I would never use a Winning glove on the heavy bag. Use it for sparring, double end bag, and on the pad. But (and I don't care how well it's made) if you use it on the heavy bag it will destroy the padding over time. That's just physics.

      I had two pairs of Celto Reyes gloves, both of which Ive since sold. (they weren't for me to be honest). One was lace-up (10oz. safetec gloves) and the other was a 12oz velco training glove. The 10oz. safetec is a great glove but offers very minimal protection both on the knuckles and more importantly very little wrist protection, they were a fight glove though (i think) so that's to be expected.
      I much preferred my 10oz. lace up winning gloves, those were great but really only useful for mitt work and double end bag work. From what i remember the 12oz reyes gloves were constructed very well with a great velcro strap but comfort wise they are no match when compared to winning. I know i sound like a winning endorsement but i just really love their gloves. In my opinion check out the SABAS boxing gloves if your considering cleto reyes, i definitely would buy them if i was in the market for some gloves now.

      Gavin Zeng I’ve tried the winning Gel guards in the past they were all right. I appreciate your honest opinion. Yeah I've been using 16 oz Winning Gloves (laced) for about 2 years now. I love them; recently I just got 12 oz Winning Gloves (velcro), and they definitely offer less wrist support as you have noted.
      Also similar to you, I agree using the ng2 knuckle guards in combination with the Winning Gloves, definitely offers more protection and reduces risk of knuckle injury/soreness. Right now I've been trying to work on power punches with the 12 oz gloves. Will let you know how they compare with my 16 oz gloves. also @RDR how much do you weigh by the way.

    • @rdr5495

      @celerystick1663 7 лет назад

      Ok, thanks! One of the reasons I've been thinking about practicing with 12oz gloves is because in amateur fights, that's weight of the gloves used. Like Jack Dempsey did in training, he would hit the bag in gloves that would be the same weight as the ones he would be using in competition.

      @@theredninja2817 most people like to use a lighter glove for bag/mitt work as it's faster and more precise. 16's are certainly usable all around, but will slow you down a bit. also you ideally shouldn't use the same glove for sparring as you do for bag work since the bag will compact the padding more, potentially making it more painful to the opponent (and less protective for you).

    So look bro winning gloves are great and especially if you are a power punching style guy with hand problems but if you're going to drop 400 bucks on them and your main gripe is they don't last as far as padding in the knuckle area after bag work i would suggest when you get new ones only used them for mits and sparring. The reason you probably like 14 Oz is for the feedback because you're knuckles won't sink as deep through the glove on the bag with 16 oz which is actually by design. If you refuse to go up to 16, I'd suggest getting a horse hair glove like Cleto or a glove that's more of a punchers glove like hit n move or rival Guerreros for the bag. The padding is more springy and will hold up better while also giving you that feed back on the bag for form purposes. Use the winnings for everything else cuz you're dropping big bucks on a glove that to me is designed to be a sparring glove. If you have the money which it sounds like you do just get a second pair.

    I would never use winning on a heavy bag not often anyways, I would only use em for sparring, for a heavy bag your better off using 8 or 10s to calcified the bones on your hands. Honestly the 8oz guerro from rival are much better for heavy bag

    The guy in rate this gear used his winning gloves for one and a half years, then he only used the gloves for equipment. So I think one and a half year is normal before they geting to soft. And I still think that's good there's plenty of gloves that would not have any padding at al after one and a half years on pads and bags.

      and the 10oz winnings are not good for heavy bags so better wear wraps for heavy bag. I use it on the heavy bags all the time my trainer didn't recommend i use on it but I didn't care hahaha. my boxing trainer has 16 oz red I tried it on when I use on the bags it felt like a pillow on punch impact I felt nothing.

    • @rdr5495
      @rdr5495  8 лет назад

      +Jenny Camua If you know you will definitely be putting the gloves to use and are willing to spend the money for a pair of winning gloves I think the 10oz gloves would be perfect.
      If we are talking about a different brand, however, the answer might vary since for example the 10 oz. cleto reyes safetec gloves, although great for the mitts, might be a little too soft for the heavy bag. In that case I might look into 12oz. gloves.
      Long story short between 10oz. and 12oz. depending on which glove we are talking about. I cant recommend the 10oz. winning glove enough but once again the price might not be worth it for everyone depending on their specific situation. All I can say is that it will for sure offer enough protection when using the heavy bag while being light and offering great feedback and feel when using them on the mitts. I can speak from experience. Good luck!!

    @ 5:50 RDR's statement is true on avoiding 16 oz Winnings on the heavy bag. You can earn great form and speed on the heavy bag with at LEAST 12 oz winnings included with proper protection from hand wraps and the "pillow foam" from this superb glove. A great example on this case is when Manny Pacquiao is unleashing 10 punch combinations on the bag, and he uses 10 ounce WINNING GLOVES! (look it up, it's all over youtube) 👍
