I see this video is a few years old now but I've just discovered your channel. I'm a teacher in Italy. I was previously a dance teacher in the UK, then did a CELTA before teaching adults in London. I moved to Milan and got a job teaching in a primary school here teaching English. Since English is part of the national curriculum here, many schools are employing native English speakers to teach those lessons. I'm now looking at doing an international PGCE so I could teach in a British or international school but it seems quite a difficult and expensive route.
Hey, I just subscribed. I am an ESL teacher from Montreal, Quebec. I compose kids’ songs for my early grades, and have activity sheets to accompany them. I find that they’re a bit more modern and fun than the usual grade 1-2 stuff. The kids really like them, you should check them out when you have the time.

I was thinking of Italy. I am tempted to move for the work/life balance. I work every hour god sends and so does my husband we can only afford a tiny flat.
One can easily get a teaching job on online schools like FLVS, International Schooling, Connections Academy because they have students in different countries so they require teachers also belonging to different regions.
Thank you for this video! I've been struggling to find anything which explained this type of transition clearly and in this level of detail. I'm really interested in working in an international school at some point down the line. The one thing that concerns me is the language barrier, and whether I'll be able to carry out high quality teaching if I don't speak the language. I was wondering, how have you both handled this? :-)
You will need a qualification to teach in most schools. You can take different routes to get this (see video I have made: routes into teaching) but some schools may offer an unqualified route, but I think the pay is quite low. Thanks!

Despite us moving with friends, it was still difficult getting to know new people. I do think it’s worth it though for the challenge and global opportunities. There may be other locations too. You can see lots of schools and get a good idea for what’s out there. Hi Abi. I would advise getting one/two years experience of teaching in the UK first before applying. I had three when I applied to Hong Kong. Then, the world really is your oyster! TES.COM have lots of listings and their are job fairs in the UK if you search online for dates. Good luck and stay in touch!
What is the entire process from a level to your guys’ positions? I'm currently in alevel in England, what would I be studying at uni, what experience do I need? TIA :)
You need to have certain A level points (we both had English , not sure if that is a requirement.) you need to pass some ‘QTS tests’ - you can google. They made have changed somewhat but they used to be a maths test, English test. They’re quite difficult actually. Then you need to apply for either a degree, followed by PGCE , or a BA Honours Primary Education degree (make sure it is inclusive of QTS) there are other routes such as teach first, SCITT but I know less about them due to no personal experience. Finally, you need to have been teaching in the UK as a qualified teacher for approx 2 - 3 years before an established international school will consider hiring you. Some may do it for less. Hope this helps, happy to take more Qs. Plenty of videos on this including ‘routes into teaching’ x

I would recommend doing a couple of years in the uk first. Most (good..) international schools will require 2 years + although of course sometimes people land jobs with less. I’m personally really happy I decided to get 3y in the UK first. On the other hand.. this is your life! Your journey can be unique so do whatever feels right :) best of luck! X

It’s fine! Not a problem at all. The children do speak English, but of course as it’s their second language we have to work hard to ensure all lessons are EAL inclusive. Very visual, lots of images and videos to support etc. But thankfully I’m used to providing differentiation for EAL anyway as my first school educated children from all over the world. Where do you work? X

how is it dealing with the language barrier in your job?
It’s fine! Not a problem at all. The children do speak English, but of course as it’s their second language we have to work hard to ensure all lessons are EAL inclusive. Very visual, lots of images and videos to support etc. But thankfully I’m used to providing differentiation for EAL anyway as my first school educated children from all over the world. The only problem is the usual line of bullshit reasoning "looking to hire British/American" etc teachers... I have no doubt in my mind that my English language skills will be a match to any native English speaker's skills, but this trash line of racist Asian reasoning is just dumb.
