I would love a apartment tour and more info in housing. Thank you for this video! It was so concise and straightforward and informative. Wonderful content!
Hi there. Love your videos! Former Hong Kong resident here and I’m hoping to return once I qualify as a primary teacher in April. Just wondering - is Drama part of the PYP curriculum? And do you teach it or is it taught by a specialist teacher?
I personally used TES.com and have also had luck from just going directly to school website job postings. Also I always think there is no harm in sending a quick email too and seeing what’s out there - worst case you won’t hear back. Hope this helps!
Great! I will get this filmed. Anything in particular? I’ll cover things like size, cost , location, how to find etc but if you think of anything specific let me know. It was a great decision to move for me and hope you will enjoy it too if you decide to move!
I visited your channel via Thomas's channel. Thank you for sharing so much interesting information. I have been substitute teaching in the US for a number of years so it was cool to compare your experience with the Hong Kong teaching system to that of here. We also use specialist teachers (I am in Michigan, not sure about the rest of the US) for art, PE/gym, music and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) plus a second language in schools that offer it. Classroom teachers have one 40 minute period a day for prep when their students are at specials.
I’m really happy to have some new visitors as a result of our collaboration. I love comparing experiences - and I haven’t compared with Michigan before! We don’t have specifically STEM but we have tech integration which I imagine is very similar. Anyway, nice to connect here! Would you ever consider teaching elsewhere?
Id love to hear more about how you teach PYP. My school has just started the authorisation process and I find it all very overwhelming! I'm sure with time, I'll get all the terminology, I just find it tricky to naturally fit it all in with my teaching! I also have Year 3 :) I am in Australia. We've had one training course, but it all so new, I would like a follow up/ to learn more haha
I taught in S. Korea for a year with a TEFL certification before coming back to the states and getting my official teaching license. I really want to go back, but I’m unsure as to how to go about it because this time I’m a certified teacher and I want the pay and benefits of an international school. Any help would be appreciated!
So I’m curious how international schools hold up to the NET scheme. The starting pay for the NET scheme seems to be lower but also includes a 20,000 HKD housing allowance and the pay scale means that it seems to price out the international schools? Another question I have is, as a fresh graduate with a teaching license and a bachelors degree but no experience how would I fare going into the job market in Hong Kong? Would I have no chance at a decent wage with no experience under my belt? Thanks in advance, and I’m looking forward to more of your videos! Hong Kong is my goal destination after I finish college in a few years!
Thank you for all of this great info! Your videos are always super helpful! In your opinion, what would you say are the most in-demand subject areas to teach abroad?
Hello thank you for all the helpful videos. Just out of curiosity just wondering if will see Ryan in any upcoming videos? It's been a long time since you've both featured together. Hope all is well with you both 💖
I didn't know that international schools sometimes have subject specialists! Does that mean you have extra PPA time or do you have to cover other people's lessons? Xx
Random question, but I’m curious! - what was food shopping like for you? Are there outdoor markets you went to or supermarket stores? How did you lug around all your groceries without a car? Thanks!
Dear Katie, thanks for this video, it's very useful especially considering that I'm preparing to start my international teaching career. Wanted to ask you how long did it take you to get accepted in the job at your school? also, can you provide some insights about the recruitment process, more specifically, how did it started, which obstacles you had to face, and which surprises - if any - you received. I'm aiming to work in Beijing, and currently doing my NQT year, so I'd be ready to go within two years at least. Please let me know your thoughts, thank you! 🙏
I’m very interested! Recently finished my PGCE and have my QTS. My grandma is Chinese (lived in Hong Kong and South China) so I really want to work there! What was the process like?
For Teachers My husband and I are currently teaching in Seoul, South Korea. We’re looking to make the move from cram schools or international schools in the coming years. Your videos are so helpful!
Hi, greetings from an American expatriate in Taipei, Taiwan! None of these teaching in Hong Kong videos mention private teaching in HK. Do you know anything about that freelance market and how to get into it? Thanks!
I’m planning on applying for jobs to teach in Hong Kong for the next academic year. I know there has been political change in Hong Kong recently. I am wondering how much this might have affected you as a school teacher and resident in Hong Kong?
I think you are over reacting what do ever happening in Hong Kong, believe me , you are safe and nothing like the western media reported. However, COVID regulations is very strengthening, be aware quarantine applied once you landed in Hong Kong. Get more information from abroad teaching in Hong Kong, good luck if you decided to go abroad.

Is South Korea a country? If yes, then the same goes for Taiwan. Yes, they both have complicated history with their communist counterparts, but this doesn’t in any way their statehood

Wow 😮 Crazy to hear just how similar teaching in two different nation is all the way down to the temperatures too. Great video Katie!
So true! I really didn't think it would be so similar. Happy we worked on such an interesting collaboration :)
I love this video! This has definitely given me some inspiration for my next videos, thanks!
An apartment tour would be great!
Also, the apartment tour would be helpful! Also how to find jobs at international schools. X
From this video, i can see that you are a great teacher
It would be nice to see more of your accommodation and to have some insight into how much this or typical accommodation would cost

Hi Katie! I’d love to see a room tour and listen to advice regarding accommodation as I’m considering the move. Thanks :)

For Teachers maybe a little bit of insight into the expat community. I know you moved with friends and I would be making the move alone
I would be interesting in a separate video on accomodation in Hong Kong!
I will definitely film one soon. I’m inspired! Hope it will help.
