Steve, so good to hear you’re on the road to recovery. The procedure you had is called an angiogram (ANN-gee-oh-gram). I had one a few years ago and, luckily, the doctors didn’t find any blockages. It’s a serious procedure. There were two medical professionals in the room with me while another technician performed the procedure remotely in another room. It was so strange watching the whole thing in real time on a video monitor. I remember the guys in the room with me kept cracking jokes. Good times…. Now Steve, you be a good boy… follow your doctor’s instructions… and you’ll be doing your “walk-and-talk” videos again before you know it.

I’m sorry to say it but this event is very much a part of what retirement is - and why we do it. This video is an excellent and informed addition to your other retirement videos. Thanks so much, John. And I agree with you. Even though retirement is pretty awesome, It definitely can be full of speed bumps like this as we age. I guess we all just have to take the good with the bad as they say. 🙃😄👍
Steve, I'm so glad you're ok! 12 years ago, I had a couple heart scares back when I was 35 and 36 years old. I too delayed getting care, and when I did, both times, and after i was even admitted once overnight for testing via EKG, but the Drs i saw dismissed me because they weren't able to find any thing to be concerned over. Even though it never progressed into anything worse, the experience permanently caused me to revert back to the world of vegetarianism, but more aggressively as a Vegan. 3 weeks into me being Vegan (which included me fasting and detoxing for 21 days), late at night as I was asleep I felt and heard my heart unclog itself. It was dramatic, and I just laid in bed fully awake while it happened and completely unworried about it, but praying to God The sound and that whatever it was going on would not be fatal. The feel of it was like a drain being unclogged, or a toilet freeing up after being plunged. The experience lasted a few minutes and didn't hurt at all, it was the most amazing feeling I had ever felt in my life. I woke up the next morning feeling like Superman; I felt better than I ever did before, like i could conquer the world. And that's when I knew I had finally made the right decision, and I had at that moment chosen to become Vegan for the rest of my life. Everyday since then has been truly rewarding, and I've not looked back ever since.
That is awesome Quincy. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. I’m pretty much a vegetarian already, but I’m definitely moving in your direction. The only problem is that I have very bad kidney stones and much of the vegan diet is full of oxalates which caused kidney stones. So I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to be 100% vegan like my grandson Mason. He doesn’t get kidney stones. For instance, nuts, which are huge part of the vegan diet are extremely high and oxalates, and not something I’m allowed to eat. But I’m definitely getting rid of all the sweets and no more ice cream for me going forward. Just that by itself will probably solve all of my problems. 😄👍
@@theretiredlifewithstevenuts don’t have to be part of a vegan diet. They are actually not recommended for people with heart disease. I changed my diet almost a year ago. No fast food, no processed foods. Healthy supplements. I'm retired. I was a career leo. I remember standing going blind in my left eye. Cleared up in minutes. Then remembering afterwards very unsteady on equilibrium completely off. Gravity would would just take me into the wall or ground. I finally asked my wife to take me to local ER. They prescribed High blood pressure meds and dizzy medication. And sent me home. The next morning I'm still falling over. I yell at my wife to come see me. I'm literally falling out of my chair. She's holding me up from falling out of my chair and asks me what? You want me to stand here all day and hold you up? I said your not doing nothing. Let's go back. And what do I say? I've already seen a doctor. So we went to a different ER network. They admitted me so specialist would have access to me versus appointments. That would take months. Long story short. I've had 2 strokes, artery blocked in my brain that they can't clear. Just finally got my blood pressure down. Wow, I became so depressed and angry. So my healthy lifestyle didn't work apparently. I haven't seen my grandkids and my dog in two weeks.
@@davidosborn8782 So you were eating a SAD (standard American diet) the prior year for many years I would assume. Sometimes the damage is already done from many years eating the SAD way. But if you're eating a WFPB way you'll be on the upside of health. And good for you for changing your diet from the Frankenfoods as I call them & consuming animals to a whole food diet. So happy to hear your doing well now and will continue to increase your health going forward. Thank you for taking the time to reply back too. Wishing you all the best my friend! 😃
Had a double duel occlusion. In 2010 had 100 percent LAD blockage. Guess what 15 yrs later have had no more heart problems. Get the weight off and NO SUGARS. I dropped from 285 to 239
Sounds like what they call the ‘Widow maker’… SO glad you’re doing better. Focus on your health and getting better, your fans will be here…. I know I will be.
One day turned into 5 days! And nothing turned into something. And then you wound up having stents put in your arteries. Hopefully, you won't have to go back into the hospital for a long while.
Steve, thank goodness your doing better now. I’ve had three heart attacks and five stents to unblock major blockages. The second heart attack I had after my first heart attack and I was in recovery after my procedure. So they rushed me into surgery again. The doctor told my spouse if I hadn’t been in the hospital when I had the second heart attack I would not had made it. The amazing thing of it all was I was not scared at all. I’m not afraid of death. I remember looking at my spouse and seeing the look on his face. Two and one half years after the second attack I had a third. In all I have five stents and I’m still here. I don’t fear something I can’t control. So in ten years I’ve had three heart attacks and five stents. I do have to take a heart med and blood thinners.
Hi Samuel, thank you for sharing this with us. I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through so much worse than I went through. I hope whatever caused the heart attacks is now under control for you. And hopefully no more stents for either of us! 🙏🤞👍
I tried to get the doctor to take my brother off Lipitor and asked about CoQ10 but he said he had to stay on it and laughed at the CoQ10 connection. Heart doctor.
I know there are lots of conspiracy theories about statins, but all of the doctors and all the hospitals say it prevents strokes and heart attacks, so I think I’ll stay on them. I trust them more than the non Doctors spreading their own theories on the Internet. 😄👍
You seem like a great guy Steve, but the fact that you eat no meat... That might be the center of you problems. Maybe you should try a Carnivore diet... just try it for a month.
Consuming animal products is the reason why he had this in the first place. Please do research on this, as the carnivore diet isn't a healthy one at all. The only caveat is you can lose weight, temporarily, but also increase your cholesterol levels. Also your BP will increase due to the excessive sodium.
@@Linda-in9ns Where do you think the cow gets his protein? From the plants that they eat. Animals don't have much protein at all, it's the plants, legumes, soy & tempeh.
@@cct7495 I don't think that is accurate, seeing the effects that are being noted by those practicing Carnivore diets, as many have exceeded 5 years or more.. but it doesn't seem to be only the Meat, but rather the absence of Sugar and Carbs, or processed foods with cause all the damage... but to each his own. Yes, I have been 2researching this as with many other diets, and practice it myself. It is simply FANTASTIC!
My brother tried the carnivore diet, but his cholesterol shot up off the charts so he went back to a regular diet. I think 99% of all doctors in hospitals believe after decades a research that and all carnivore diet is not healthy for most people. Like everything else, though I’m sure there are exceptions. I have a friend on the carnivore diet and he loves it, but who knows if it will cause him clogged arteries down the road. I guess we are all different and we all get to decide for ourselves. I’mglad it’s working for you Sean. I really love vegetables, so for me vegetarian diet is perfect. I just need to go cold turkey and all the sugar and dairy. 😄👍

Keep well. I love your channel. Maree from Australia ❤
Wow, Steve! Thanks for sharing the story and I hope it also tells others that if something doesn't seem right, go get checked out! I'm so glad they decided to admit you and send you to the cath lab (where the stents were put in) Some other places may have sent you home after a reassuring EKG, negative troponin (blood test for a heart attack), and normal chest X-ray. Kudos to the medical staff for having a high degree of suspicion and listening to your story which has the hallmark signs of a heart issue. We wish you all the best with the recovery and let us know how you're doing -- you'll be back out walking before you know it!
Thank you Jon. I agree. I feel very fortunate that they were so thorough! Lots of people have loved comments, here, sharing stories of others who were not so lucky! 🙁
Who would have ever guessed, Steve. You looked the picture of health. Glad you had the angiogram and you are doing well. It must be a relief for Jim also. Take care of yourself!
Always glad to hear of a good result; you have an awesome attitude. My eyebrows went up when you said you'd been taking statins for 15 to 20 years, yet you had 3 blockages. I have no medical background, and generally skeptical of US medicine. Again, glad you had such a good result. To your health Sir! PS: 70 is the new 50. (big smile)
Thanks Jonnie! I know what you mean about the statins. The other way to look at it though is that if I hadn’t been taking the statins, I may have just died from a heart attack or this may have happened 10 or 20 years ago. I guess you never know, but I’m sure glad that the stents seem to have worked. 🙏🤞😄👍

Can I ask what you eat on a daily basis? You said your diet is healthy but didn't state what you exactly consume regularly.
@@cct7495 veggies, fruit. Healthy type. Food
No trans fat sugar prosse foods
@@davidosborn8782 So you were eating a SAD (standard American diet) the prior year for many years I would assume. Sometimes the damage is already done from many years eating the SAD way. But if you're eating a WFPB way you'll be on the upside of health. And good for you for changing your diet from the Frankenfoods as I call them & consuming animals to a whole food diet. So happy to hear your doing well now and will continue to increase your health going forward. Thank you for taking the time to reply back too. Wishing you all the best my friend! 😃
@@cct7495 yes absolutely. I don't mean to sound so depressed. I have every intention to continue no sodas, healthy lifestyle.
Take as much time as you need… love from the Netherlands
Had a double duel occlusion. In 2010 had 100 percent LAD blockage. Guess what 15 yrs later have had no more heart problems. Get the weight off and NO SUGARS. I dropped from 285 to 239
Did you have stents/bypass?
So sorry to hear that Paul. But congratulations on your recovery. Happy to hear that you’re doing right now. 😄👍
Sounds like what they call the ‘Widow maker’… SO glad you’re doing better. Focus on your health and getting better, your fans will be here…. I know I will be.
Thanks so much SF! 😄👍
One day turned into 5 days! And nothing turned into something.
And then you wound up having stents put in your arteries.
Hopefully, you won't have to go back into the hospital for a long while.
Yes!! As much as I like that hospital, I hope I never have to go back! 🙏🤞😄👍
So you've been taking statins for 15 years for high cholester statins aren't good for you. You should be taking CoQ10
@@theretiredlifewithsteveYou had a heart attack. They were not well.
That blockages were already there
Feel better and it easy. Keep that angel on your shoulder.
Thank you, Bonnie! 👍
Steve - my friend, I am so VERY sorry you had to go through that and SO very grateful that you are on the mend. I'm glad they went the extra mile and did that last test. Always trust your gut and listen to your body. So happy you are home and healing my friend! Blessings and many orayers - Judith 🎭🎤

Your hospital room pretty much like the one I was in for a necessary surgery I had earlier this month! Right down to the tight fit for the bed and big drapes that went across the door!

I'm so happy you are feeling better. I'm about to turn 71 and am on a few medications but so far no serious issues. I get what you said about panic attacks. Wow, Steve! Thanks for sharing the story and I hope it also tells others that if something doesn't seem right, go get checked out!
I'm so glad they decided to admit you and send you to the cath lab (where the stents were put in)
Some other places may have sent you home after a reassuring EKG, negative troponin (blood test for a heart attack), and normal chest X-ray.
