- Today, I took my walk in the historic, 55-plus neighborhood of Sahara Park, a mobile home community, in Palm Springs, California. Not only are the homes classic, but two actors used to live in this neighborhood too.

I love this video! Thanks for the kind words about our home. This Park is a wonderful place to live and the nicest neighbors I’ve ever had. There is a lot of pride of ownership here and many here have downsized from larger homes.
I’m glad you liked it Neal. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful community. Many viewers have left comments about how envious they are. 😎👍
It does look like a beautiful place to live!
We all have at least one Karen in our neighborhoods. That was a really good tour by the way,, thank you.
Lol isn’t that so true! 😳😆
What a lovely morning stroll in paradise, very relaxing. Thanks Steve, glad to see you back doing what you do best.
Thanks, Jon and I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🦩😎👍
MYOB lady! No interference with our walks allowed! Love you Steve!
Lol thanks and right back at you! 🦩😎👍
Bonus to have Steve interact with Steve, a resident of "one of the best kept secrets of Palm Springs." He seemed very friendly and knowledgeable about the community.
I know, right? And he sure was. 🦩😎👍
That's the nicest trailer park I've ever seen!
We have some others here in the desert that are even nicer. I will be walking through those in the future. 🦩😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca Steve has great taste in mobile home walkies! Love, Tiffany : )))
Like all the creativity and whimsical touches around the homes.
Thanks Steve, so happy to see you are doing well...enjoyed our walk! 🦩🦩🦩💕
Thanks for coming along Taylor 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩😎👍
You are sooo lucky to be residing in such a beautiful part of or country! How could anyone not be happy living there!!??!!
@@steveinpalmspringsca Steve, I am so happy that you are doing well after your procedure. As a result, I am not afraid to help my uncle who is afraid of his upcoming surgery! Thank you Steve!! Love Tiffany
Enjoyed the tour Steve! I might have to put a bid in to live there soon. All I need at my age is a room with a view and a safe environment (and a cat). Before the virus shut things down I'd drive with friends to one of the mobile home parks off Gold Club Road for a book club. It wasn't as nice as Sarara Park. We'd go once a month and there were only 8 of us for two hours. The neighbors complained to the woman who lived there because there were extra cars on the street. We carpooled and only parked in her driveway or in front of her place. She said that was the worst part of living there, the neighbors were cranky and not friendly. This Park looks like it has more land space. I giggled at all the Pink Flamingos in the 55+ Park. I know one of meanings is that the person living there is, well lets say open to relationship but I guess this is one of the old time neighborhoods where Pink Flamingo means Pink Flamingo! 😉
Hi ER, thanks for sharing all of this with us. Yes, unfortunately all the Gladys Kravitzis of the world all seem to move to 55+ communities lol! 🤣 and that’s so funny about the pink flamingos. I had no idea they had a double meaning! 🤣🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
This is a cute neighborhood. I could see myself living in a place like this.
Me too, Carolyn 🦩😎👍
Thanks, Steve, for showing us a different side of life in the Palm Springs area. We enjoy your field trips.
Thanks Judd. Glad you enjoyed it. 😎👍
I really enjoyed this walk, Steve ! What an adorable and interesting mobile home park ! Thanks for taking us along !
Thanks for coming along with me MsB! 🦩😎👍
Nice!! Hey to Jim!
Beautiful mobile home neighborhood, well maintained, very cool vibe! Not owning the land can be an issue. Last year 3 mobile home parks within the Phoenix city limits were sold and the residents were evicted. Turns out the land was worth more than the rent collected. Sold to developers. They call that progress? FYI - the Ace Hotel was a former Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge from the 1960’s. ❤ Paul
Hi Paul, thanks for the reminder about it being a Howard Johnson’s. That’s sad to hear about the parks in Phoenix, but definitely not a surprise when money is involved. Fortunately Palm Springs does try to protect and make available lower income housing so I think it would probably be harder to do here. But you never know. I’m sure developers could make millions on that land in such a prime location! 😳 Hopefully that will never happen though!🤔🦩🦩🦩🦩
Some nice landscaping.
It looks beautiful there. A lot of nice looking places. My dream is to go somewhere warm in the winter. I live in Wisconsin & it gets very cool. I need for my body & health to spend winter away. I love Pink flamingos. I have some in my yard during the summer. I have put my decorations away for the winter. Everybody have a superduper day and thank you again for bringing us this video
Yes, every winter we get lots of snowbirds from places like where you live. that’s awesome that you have pink flamingos too. I hope you have a super day as well. 😎👍
I Live In Green Bay.
Hello Steve!
That home with the huge hedges are probably for shade from either the rising or setting sun. 6:27
Shout Out to those residents! I had two yard signs and overnight on Election Day a thief stole my signs. To be clear; Harris Walz signs. 9:18
Another interesting vlog of the life & times of Palm Springs. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Hi Lark, yes, it’s sad. how putting signs in your yard like that these days you have to be very brave. 🙁
Beautiful neighborhood. I love seeing the mountains Steve, thank you 😊
Me too, Tracy 🦩😎👍
When i was young i lived in a single wide with my mom. It was the only place that i ever lived in that had 2 bathrooms. They are surpisingly spacious. Thanks for tour!
Thanks for sharing that memory with us moose 🦩😎👍
It looks like a nice place to live. I am glad you're walking again, Steve.
Thanks, Tommy. Me too. 😎👍
Lovely peaceful area! 🌴🌵🌞😌👍
`Very nice and well maintained trailor park. I think living where it's so hot it would make sense to have awnings or some roof overhangs to shade windows. Alot of heat is generated when direct sun shines through glass. Definately cuts down A/C costs.
Love that I didn't see any ridiculous grass lawns. I'd live here. Thanks Steve.
I totally agree with you, Andy 🦩😎👍
What a lovely video you did Steve. All the houses in there are gorgeous. It was also interesting to learn about the history of the mobile homes. They should put a community Little Free Library in there for people that love reading physical books.
Hi Jess, now that you mention that I’m surprised they don’t have one. Most of the neighborhood I walk and seem to have those free libraries. on the other hand, most of these 55+ communities with clubhouses have free lending libraries like that in their club houses. So I bet that’s where they do that. 👍
Steve me and my wife love your videos you are the best always a thumbs up from us were you Gettysburg fans ❤❤
Thanks so much, Alex 😎👍
Thank you for today's episode. I could see myself living in Sahara Park!
Me too, Edna 🦩😎👍
I was impressed by the creative and beautifully maintained landscapes. Very nice! I would love to see those areas at Christmas time. Thanks Steve and love to you and Jim of❤❤😊
Me too, Connie and I will definitely go back at Christmas to see the lights. 😎👍
I’ve often wondered exactly that Steve! Obviously I knew not everyone lives in a million dollar house so nice to see “the other half” 🙏🏻
I know, right? In the future, I think I will try to show both types of neighborhoods. They are both fun and interesting. 😎👍
The blue sky is amazing, beautiful 😍. I look forward to visiting with you and seeing the sights, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it Elaine 🦩😎👍
Thanks for the tour and Hello from Las Vegas Nevada
Hello Joyce, glad you enjoyed the tour. 😎👋
Thanks for taking us along. What an interesting and fun place. I love all the mid century modern looks, and the diverse way the homeowners have interpreted it. Sending you best wishes for continued good health and healing dear friend. ☺️💞
Thanks, Penny 🦩😄👍
Thanks for a lovely walk today. ❤
So glad to see you doing well back at your game walking Steve 🤗 mobile home park is beautiful so nice to walk about in paradise
Thanks so much Cath! 🦩😎👍
🤗😇
Some very creative properties in that park. Thanks again.
I know, right? 🦩😎👍
Good morning Steve to you & Jim. We are lucky that we have lived long enough to retire. Love the drops of information you give us. Have a great day & stay safe.
I agree with you, Martin. We are very lucky. it’s funny you mentioned that. I uploaded a video about that very subject, a week ago, and it just went live this morning. 👍
I remember Jean Carson from the Andy Griffith Show as one of the ''fun girls'' who tried to create havoc for Andy and Barney. She had a very distinctive voice. Very funny episode. Thanks for the lovely long tour Steve.
That’s awesome that you remember her Christine. Thank you for sharing this memory with us. 🦩😎👍
Thanks Steve, cute neighborhood!
I remember Sahara Park off 111 and I also remember Jean Carson! Seen her in so many shows and in a bit less movies but she was good. I didn't know she was a West VA girl! Getting back to the Park, it really shows pride of ownership and what's left of the vintage trailers, they've turned them into some great looking homes. Hope your heart is appreciating your walks and you will benefit in the long run from them. Enjoyed greatly.
Thanks kb, glad you enjoyed it. 😎🦩👍
I've driven by there a hundred times and never took the time to enter, thanks for the tour! Also you're looking great Steve, keep healing!
I know, I’m the same way. So many fun places hidden in plain sight. 😎👍
Steve, Thank you for the tour of the mobile home park, really a nice park. Glad you are back with a strong walking energy level. Thanks & take care. Charles
Thanks Charles. Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Thank you for the great tour. I like mobile home parks 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Peter. Me too! :-)
Nice tour! It's great you have so many nice places to walk!
I agree, Lisa, I feel very lucky about that! 😎👍
Oh wow, Eric Meeks. I used to watch his YT channel and learned a lot about the history of PS ❤
I had no idea that he had a RUclips channel. Thanks for the heads up Marc. I will have to check it out. 🦩😎👍
My dad lived here on Tobruk. I was his caregiver until he died in 2005. His sister lived here also. It was a great neighborhood!
So sorry for your loss Barbara. Thank you for sharing his memory and his sisters with us too. 👍
A very nice park. Quiet & very well maintained. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for coming along CS! 😎🦩👍
Nicely done video ~ we may not be around in 50 years to see the park then~
Lovely community Steve ❤️
I met Jean Carson when I lived there with my dad. She was a very nice, friendly person. She was in several episodes of the original Andy Griffith show.
Wow, that’s cool! I’m glad you were able to meet her Barbara. I always loved the Andy Griffith Show. 😄👍
Hey Steve I loved the video
Thanks, Syreeta 🦩😎👍
I could live there no problem - it’s really lovely 🥰
I do remember Jean Carson!! She was in a lot of TV back in the day!!! Well, how cool!!! I Googled her and it says she died in a convalescent home there in Palm Springs! RIP, Miss Jean!!!
Thanks for sharing that update Diana. 🦩👍
Super video. Such a nice place to live. Thank you for sharing these unique and interesting videos.
Glad you enjoyed it Tutu! 🦩😎👍
Stunning park. Love the pink flamingos 🦩. Parma ohio used to be known for them. Don't see them as often as i used to 😢
Thank you for the tour
Thanks! They're such a fun and classic touch to these places. Sorry to hear that most of your flamingos seem to have flown the coupe. 😄🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
What a nice park, these mobile homes are really beautiful and looks like they have a lot of social activities which is fantastic….its a quick walk up the block to Koffi (I meet up with friends there from time to time), the Ace as mentioned, and Elmer’s for breakfast. Good to see you out there! 🚶
Hi Foster, yes, it’s a great location for all those places. So convenient. 🦩🦩🦩😎👍
Nice tour. There are some really interesting places in this mobile home park. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Renee! 😎👍
Hi Mr. Steve 👋 thanks for sharing this awesome video. Very nice neighborhood. Take care. Much love from the great Peach 🍑 State of Georgia 🍑
❤🎉❤🎉
Glad you enjoyed it, Janice 🦩🦩🦩😎👍
Nice video👍❤️
Very cool park. Thank you for sharing
We just bought land in boyton bch , fl and built our dream home in a wonderful park called Jamaica bay . We have a lot of mobile homes 755 many with those beautiful character, that you show in that video, It’s what drew us there. No lot rent just HOA fee of 240.00 a month. If I’d knew about that park we might have relocated to Palm Springs. Thank for sharing that beautiful park.
Thanks alot Steve really cool. I have always liked trailer/ manufactured houses
Me too, Lisa 🦩😎👍
At the 31:50 mark it looks like you ran into Gladys Kravitz! LOL Remember which show she was from? Now you can say “I ran into Gladys on my walk” in your videos and we will all know it was a person “asking” about your picture taking. 🤣
Lol I was thinking the same thing. 😳🤣 unfortunately everywhere I go I run into Gladys Kravitz. 😩
She was on Bewitched. 😅
Such a cool mobile home park. Thanks for the walk. Love those pink flamingo's🦩🦩
Glad you enjoyed it, Phyllis 🦩😄👍
Jean Carson was always great on the Andy Griffith Show. She was one of the first actresses to have her own catchphrase "Hello doll". They even made a movie by that name and she was in it i believe.
By the way I replied to your question on your Jack LaLanne video. I hope you qre able to see it.
Hi Steve, thanks for sharing that fun trivia with us. Unfortunately, I’m not able to see replies to my replies here in the comments so I didn’t see your reply. 🙁 I only see new comments.
Bing Crosby used to own the Blue Skies mobile home park in Rancho Mirage. I owned a vacation home in a Cathedral City mobile park and loved it, although the space fees have doubled since then.
Thanks for sharing that with us Animu! 🦩😎👍
Hi Steve! Great video. The man sounded like Jim 😀
How funny, I didn’t even notice that. 😄
That’s what we’re gonna do. We’re going to buy into a mobile home park. When I was a kid, my grandparents lived in one in Rancho Mirage. Even though we’re not moving for another 3 to 5 years, we have Zillow and we look at least once a week. Lol! Older Singlewides can range from 60,000, to getting a double wide with a little bit of a courtyard, for over 300,000. It just depends on where you wanna live and if you want to live with a golf course and all the amenities that some of the mobile home communities provide. We want to continue traveling, after we move out there, so we had to make some concessions with what was most important to us. It’s likely that we’re going to have a small second property in a different state, so buying a mobile home just seems logical for us.
That sounds very smart Carla. These mobile home parks here are really beautiful. 🦩😎👍
What cute place
Loved the two teale trimmed trailers. Space rent under $500 (rent control) is good for Palm Springs.
It sure is 😎🦩🦩🦩👍
I briefly looked into mobile home parks as a vacation home in the area, but the space rent for these places are now $700-800 a month. So in a way, you pay rent forever.
Very true, but probably a lot less rent than an apartment and a lot more space and usually a nice yard. 🦩😎👍
I like the privacy hedges to keep away all the Karens and Kevins roaming around.
Back in the day, I delivered newspapers. It was in 1965, because I was a girl and so young I couldn’t get my own route. So my brother added a route for me and we did it together.
Wow, now that’s a fun memory 👍
Hi Steve,
A mobile home park in Palm Springs would do me😁👍
😎🦩👍
Bring back the sun! ☀️ I need warmth! 😂 I’m looking for an Rv park to move into this week. Might go to The Sands since they have a deal for first time residents. I’ll decide this week and look forward to my first winter in the Palm Springs area.
That sounds awesome Lisa. Good luck. 😎👍
I would say that some seniors feel vulnerable, and don't want some who would do them wrong to know what their places look like and where they live.
ms suzanne tried selling that home but no takers until she passed, not all could handle the steep stairs heading to the front door from the bottom garage, just a sidenote here, great to see you have safari in your vlogs
Thanks for sharing with us Bixby 👍
I LOVE this place!! In Missouri, I know there are parks like this, but the weather here can be dangerous!! I
Yes, snow can be pretty treacherous for seniors. 😩
@theretiredlifewithsteve yep!! Actually, I mean severe storms, wind, and sometimes tornadoes!!
Steve, Have you named your home? I was having an issue with accurate step count. I found out that if your phone or watch is not in motion, it can’t detect the step. So if you’re filming and holding your phone still - steps aren’t detected. If your watch is on the same wrist you’re recording with, steps aren’t detected. Swing your watch arm for more accurate step counts. Lovely video. Fancy bumping into Mrs. Kravitz. 😂
Hi Dave, thanks for the heads up on that. I kind of suspected that was the issue. And yes, it was fun to discover where Gladys Kravitz had moved to lol! 😳🤣👍
I always liked the Eldorado on the 111, nextdoor to the target shopping center, its the lsst property on the 111in palm springs, the Mobil home park east of it nextdoor is cathedral City. It went condo so you own the lots
I agree with you. I had friends who used to live there. It’s one of the nicest. Unfortunately it’s gated so I can’t get into walk around and share it on the channel. 🙁
I have one word for you, Steve. Security!👮♂️
I love the his community!! What a great place to retire!!!
Me too!! 🦩😎👍
Very nice area, where are the people,no one out on the streets
It was a very very cold day. I think everyone was inside because of that. I noticed the same thing and was kind of surprised too. 😳
❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Glad to see you are keeping up the walking.
I looked it up. There were 4 for sale from $169.500 to $265.000. Which I honestly thought that they would be more.
The pink flamingos are a little crazy in Palm Springs! Sorry, I just have a dislike for them. My niece, collects them! Ugh! Lol!
Hi Stacy, wow, prices in that park at skyrocketed! 😳 the location is more than worth it though. And that’s so funny that you don’t like pink flamingos lol! 😲😆
I delivered newspapers there in 1962 . And watched the Canyon Country Club golf course be built later . Thanks for a memorable tour . Check my early historical free videos of nearby nostalgia and appreciation of our night sky 😊.
That's awesome Don. Thanks for letting us know about your YT channel. Will you be posting new videos in the future? I would love to see more nostalgic videos about Palm Springs' past from a local.
I'd love a trailer if it wasn't for WHERE I live lol. Tornados are common and hurricanes can be a nightmare too!!
Yikes, that definitely would not be good lol! 😳😲😩
Sorry to say but I’m in that 55+ bracket…lol….i will be 60 on Nov 18th. I didn’t even think I’d reach 60 let alone live it.
Happy early birthday BA! 🎂😄👍
Lived in a trailerpark for going on 23 years .
😎👍
Steve these mobile homes sell for a lot more than a $100,000, it more like $300,000 or more I live in Southern Ca. in San Diego County with the same company that this community is with. They have rent control which is great, But there very few . So many people believe that mobile homes do not increase in value but that is not the case in Southern Ca. In fact the mobile home park I live in, the going price is between $400,000 or more
Thanks for sharing that with us MrB, I know they go up and value. I just didn’t realize they had gone up that much in the past 10 years. 😳 this is one of the most desirable locations in all of Palm Springs though, so I shouldn’t be surprised. 🦩😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca thank you for responding
sounds like you met another "friendly" neighbor there Steve. wink wink
I know, right? 😳🤪🤣
Great video
I predict that trailer parks will make a comeback. I dated a guy in college, whose family started Hicks trailers back in the day. They are collectibles now. Trailers went out of fashion, but they are affordable.
I totally agree with you, Tex. They are definitely becoming pretty trendy here in Palm Springs and have always been popular here because of the affordability. I think we have about 100 mobile home parks here in the Palm Springs desert area. 😎👍
The desert is safer for trailers. I’m by Galveston, near Nasa & the risky hurricane season stopped sales around the 1980s. I like your hat. 👍
You should try Horizon Mobile Village over in Cathedral City on Hwy 111.
Hi Todd, yes, I plan to. If that is the gated one that’s actually still in Palm Springs. The one in Cathedral city, across the street from the Ford dealer is gated and I can’t get in. Thanks for the suggestion, Todd. 😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca I'm mistaken! It's not Cat City it's Palm Spring! and it's not gated.
Hi Steve, whatcha think? Gnomes or Flamingos? I go with the Flamingos 👍🙂❤
Definitely flamingos for me too lol! 🦩🦩🦩🦩😎👍
Please go to see some of the houses of actors listed on the front of Eric meeks book. Ididn't know Kurt Russell had a house there!
Thanks Joy, I will. 😄👍
Next year we’d love to see so
Some Christmas lights if you feel up too it.
I just shared a dozen videos of Christmas lights in the past couple of weeks. Sorry you missed those videos.
I will be checking it out thank you
@ I will look for them thank you
Surprisingly no solar panels, thought they would be everywhere
From what I’ve heard, solar panels are too heavy for mobile home roofs. 🤔
Steve...do they ever replace the trailers?? Also .I had aortic valve replacement 6 years ago. I bike 5 miles everyday. Mine is bovine and stainless steel. Exercise is a must for a long life. I want to be a burden on my grandchildren!!!!
Hi Kyle, that’s a good question. There are quite a few newer units in the park, so I guess some of them do. But some love the old vintage trailers. That’s awesome to hear that you’re doing so well after your surgery. Very inspiring. And yes, we should all be so lucky to live long enough to be a burden on our family lol! 🤣👍
Some of the mobile homes are from back in the mid 1950s and everything built up to today. Lots of add on and modifications.
I can tell you're not a fan of the Andy Griffith show!
The Good Time Girls made several appearances and were hilarious. "Hello doll"
Check it out if you have the time.
The page from your burial book that you showed on screen says that she was cremated and her ashes specifically scattered on the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California!
Thanks for this video😊
Hi Patrick, I loved the Andy Griffith show when I was growing up, but I really haven’t seen it much since then. Thanks for sharing that fun trivia with us. 🦩😄👍
Steve what are the monthly rents or fees for the mobile home park after you buy the home?
Hi Baze, if you keep watching the video you’ll see I ran into one of the owners who lives there and he talked about the space rent. 👍
I see most of the units are "ground set." Does it flood when it rains?
No, I don’t think it’s in a flood zone. And we get very little rain each year here.
Steve-- You said you can build up around the homes. Does that mean that you own the land ?
No, if you watch the full video, I met a guy who lived there and he talked about the space rent. 👍
Looks like everyone is inside watching the price is right ,except 1 guy and Gladys cravitz
Lol I think you got that right John! 🤣🦩👍
