One of the greatest concert bands ever. If you missed 'em, you missed out.
Saw them 1983 Dallas sat on second row threw joint on stage
Saw them winter of '81...they are great in concert! P.s. girls were throwing bras and panties onstage.
Was so happy I was able to enjoy this band at the Shaboo in Willimantic Connecticut in the early 1970s more than once. Such a fun band!
Saw them twice in Springfield Massachusetts 1983
I was lucky enough to see them play a show at Merriweather Post Pavillion with Talking Heads back in the early 80's. Unbelievable show.
Back four years later. This song was one of the reasons I became a drummer. It's also one of the reasons I wish I had been a frontman. :)
if they would've stuck together they would've been Bostons alltime Best...thanks for the memories
Why doesn't this song get airtime on the radio.. SiriusXM 80s. Great jam
It's too good for that.
One of the lost MTV videos I forgot about. Up until about 2days ago, I bet I haven't heard this since 1983.
Because even though it's a great song, it was made in the 70's and people want to hear most of the crap written these days
It sure did when it was original XM now they just play the same bad songs over and over
The answer is some jerky consultant doesnt think it good enough. To me one of the greatest songs ever. Pete is such a a very good singer and a great performer. Love J. Geils band kudos to all involved, great performance
Best live act ive ever seen. And i saw them 5 times.
Me too
Hard to believe this song and video came out 4 decades ago! It still has appeal!
Actuall, the song itself dates back to the 60's, and the J Geils Band originally recorded in the mid 70's.
One of the Best American bands of the 70's and early 80's Bar None!
Boston's Ultimate Party Band !!!! The Wolf ruled the stage in our town !!!!
redhead5150 loved them in Portland Maine and Boston
Detroit made J Geils
Peter Wolf was a fantastic frontman....one of the best ever!
Totally awesome
I grew up in Newton, MA, in the 70's. Local legendary radio station, WBCN, played J. Geils, all the time. J. Geils was playing on the school bus! One stormy day, I checked out Monkey Island from the Newton Public Library. Ever since that fateful day, my life has never been the same! God bless the J. Geils Band! Rest In Peace J. Geils!
I like J Geils my cousin's and his friends used to party to their music they were much older than me and lived in a different town I bought some of their cassettes and you should play it all the time all my friends were like who are these guys they had never heard of them and I would have never heard of them had it not been for my cousins and their friends playing their music all the time Jay geils kicks ass I would've loved to see them live but they never came to New Mexico
Love this band since the 70's. RIP Jerome.
Underrated band. Saw them in the 70's and it was a rockin concert. Great musicians all.
the perfect band.
Lovin’ it 40 yrs later: Yes I do❤️
Me too!!!
Same! Great music and the best of times!! The awesome 1980's!!🍺🍺
I love how the J.Geils Band could take a retro song like this or "Land of 1000 Dances" and just rock the hell out of it.Super!
Whoa the wicked picket rocked it first and harder.
@@walkthenerd6948 Wilson Pickett did "Land Of 1000 Dances" first, but not "I Do". That one was first done by the Marvelows and barely cracked the Top 40.
I saw J. Geils live in 1981 and the crowd really is like this! Girls throwing bras and panties on stage!
@@pamnicklas5536Truth!! Easily one of the best times I ever had at a Rock concert!! As I think about those days I realize how blessed we were. The tickets were very affordable, the bands were great, and you almost always left pumped up! JGB RULED!!👏👏👏
@seanswinton6242 yes...Peter Wolf really knew how to work the crowd for sure! Plus I still have all my concert shirts including that Freeze Frame tour shirt. ❤️
Great song. Great version. That swing pattern the drummer is playing on the ride cymbal is fantastic. And those harmonies....WOW!
The J. Geils Band
"I Do"
Showtime!
EMI America Records, 1982
Man, forgot all about these guys. Tons of great songs. Goes on my play list right now becasue I love it, yes, I do now. Yes, I do.
Really, how could you forget THIS!!??
One of most fun Ive ever had at a concert!!🔥🔥🔥
@@seanswinton6242 I can't believe this was real. Did they pay chicks to scream in the front row and rush the stage? How do you know this was the same show anyway?
@@swingersonian this was not staged...it was really like that!
Drummer was behind all the success. Talented dude!
Wasn't he from MI? Heard he was from Northern Michigan.
Under rated big time. Stephen Jo Bladd was a bad bad dude on the drums!!!!
@@swingersonianStephen lived in Lexington . The cab co. I drove for used to drive him to Logan Airport when he flew to play his gigs . Cool dude ! Always very polite !
I don't know anything about his personal life but I always assumed the girls must go crazy for him
Always a good tip! He didn’t say much but driving him to Logan Airport was one of the best jobs .
I remember when this was in constant rotation on MTV - the energy is still as high and fresh today as it was then!
A friend of mine in the army back in the 70s turned me on to these guys and I still jam to them. Tim Nolan, if you see this hit me up.
1983 MTV JGeils Band the best of 80
I want my 70's ,& early 80's back
Always loved this band. Doesn't get much better.
Nope.❤
Another great band from Massachusetts
This song takes me back to a very, very happy time in my life. It's such a pity that the "happy" went out of music, but if I ever want to hear it, I just put this song on. I had the "Showtime!" LP for years, but lost it in a move. These guys were amazing live!
Of course, these are also the guys who did "Love Stinks". (One of the funniest rock songs of all time, IMO.)
I used to listen to an awesome radio show on Saturday nights in Cleveland and they opened it with house party.
What a kickass party band.
Me as well...There from my home state of Ma./ One of my favorite all time bands!!!
I have the entire vinyl collection of the J.Geils Band my favourite band and it is an Lp Showtime album, it is for me the best concert of the band, those guys were born to make music for dancing!
Detroit being their 2nd home, it was awesome for alot of us who'd been seeing these guys for almost a full decade before, to see them 'blow-up' nationally and finally get the recognition they deserved. They still play to sold out shows everytime they come here
you know what sucks. If you ask any 13-16 year old child whats there favorite J. geils song. They'll respound with whos J. Geils :( Im only 15 and I love J. geils. I just wish there were more teens like me who apreciate real music. Like if you agree
1978. My first ever rock concert at the Cape Cod Coliseum (since repurposed). General admission. The nuns were unhappy with my late return to the dorm.
I was there...
Was that the Melody tent?
@@rogerdean5313 it was in Yarmouth and held 7,500 people for concerts was built in 1972 and was open til 1984 when Vince McMahon sold it to Christmas Tree Shop Co.
I was there, too.
ThePandora622 You should have taken the nuns with you.
Such a SIMPLE BUT GREAT SONG!!! Man I sure wished I could of seen them back in the Day. LOVE LOVE THESE GUYS...........R.I.P. J. GEILS......🎸💚
Stephen Jo Bladd, the most powerful drummer who ever lived.
El mejor ,mis respetos y esa armónica como olvidarla
R.I.P., John and thanks for the memories...
GREAT SONG!!
GREAT SONG!!
What a good song! It's so catchy that I can't stop dancing to it.
So many House Party moments listening to this song and other Animal House hard partying music J. Geils played! Wouldn’t change it the world!!!!
Yes, for me it was how cleverly their drummer kept that constant beat, the horns and other instruments. The voices, blended to make them a very, accomplished band.
Great song! My daughter and my husband danced to this for her wedding! It was absolutely perfect!
THE J. GEILS BAND UNO DE LAS MEJORES BANDAS DE LOS 80s. ....Y TAMBIÉN EL TEMA PAGINA CENTRAL...... QUE VIVA LOS 80s.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Perfettamente d'accordo 😂😂😂👍👍🥳🥳💯💯
Ah, to have had music like this to listen to as a member of the Class of '83! I pity the high-schoolers today with all the mediocre shit they have to endure on their Spotify playlists. For every single listenable tune kids get to hear nowadays, back in my day there were at least 100 songs, most of 'em not just listenable but magnificent. Hell, even the so-so songs from the early/mid '80s were terrific compared to most new songs nowadays.
Don’t forget the endless amount of concerts and live music to be had during that time too!
Esto es musica grandes recuerdos grandiosas fiestas no entiendo como hay gente q no le pueda gustar este clasico
this song is awesome!! l Iove it! it brings me back memories....early 80's music...the best!!
Happy to say I saw them Live in NYC in the Late 70's still one of the best Concerts I have ever been to!
Concert recorded at Pine Knob in Clarkston, Michigan (now known
at DTE Energy music theatre). A great outdoor venue well designed for concerts
with hills build for blankets on the grass and seats underneath a very large roof
area.
These guys were amazing. I feel like you could give them any song 5 minutes before they went on stage and they could bang out an excellent version of it. So talented.
They were a fantastic live band, I was fortunate to see them in the late seventies at the paramount theater in Seattle
Have always really liked this song and just heard it recently on a high school radio station and it still sounds good! Too bad that regular oldies stations never play it anymore :(
RIP Mr. Geils, we will miss you.
Damn! I completely forgot about this awesome song!
Early MTV magic
The Geils band hit #24 in Billboard, 1-8-83. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend!
Saw them in concert years ago and they put on one hell of a show! The theater was filled with energy and vibrations and Peter Wolf was amazing!
Best showmen back then ever.
*RIP J.GEILS*
Must have seen them 30 times in and around the Boston area back then. Best party band ever!
RIP, J.
saw them when you wrote this and it was one of the best concerts ive ever been to.
the band hit #24 in Billboard, 1-8-83. Bless you, emi, for postin' it. Thanx!
High energy and uplifting music,
Peter Wolf
First time I saw the J. Geils Band was back when U2...get this...were *opening* for them!
Saw them in Portland Me. in the early to mid 80's PURE ENERGY! You were on your feet getting down.
Pine Knob! Michigan rocks... J Giles we miss you!
Nostalgia big 80 MTV JGeils Band
Saw them at Cape Cod Coliseum...best show ever!
Detroit loves you!
It is hard to watch a great era pass. I'm born/raised in MI, 30 miles from Detroit. Look how immensley popular Kiss was during '76-'79, Journey in '80-'83 and J Geils '80 - 82, and these bands LOVED Detroit yet they were from NYC, SF, and Boston, respectively.
I saw these guys and talk about HIGH ENERGY all concert long. They had two HUGE fans blowing one each side of the stage. What a show
OMG were these guys the greatest LIVE show of all time. I LOVE these guys. Peter Wolf Rocks.
80-81-life changed forever in on July 1st 1982. 😢
I literally just heard this song on Saturday morning on the radio (oldies station) for the first time in 30 years. The only reason I recognized it was because of the hook at the beginning, lol. Wasn't a huge radio hit, but I remember it on the radio when I was like 9-10 years old, lol.
I saw a brief bit of it on MTV back then & never forgot it, & now here it is on RUclips!
They did the studio version first on the Monkey Island album. First time I heard that one when it came out the DJ played it once, went to commercial, came back from the commercial and play it two more times in a row. Good times.
J.GEILS BAND es una banda de fiesta para bailar todas sus canciones de principio a fin ¡
Great horn section and drums. Do I love this song? I do!
J Geils Band.....que buen grupo y sus canciones son lo máximo ......lo disfruté allá por los años 80's.....
I remember seeing this video as a kid and thinking "That looks like a fun job!"
the giels band is a band that always makes me want to get up and move and sing along
A cover that is as good as the original...a rare find.
I think it's better. And live, no less.
Greatest live band!!! Fun song from the Showtime live album! But gotta listen to Blow your face out for the essential live Geils!! Love that band! RIP J.G.
Musica alegre y contagiante que levanta el animo para bailarla siempre, gracias por existir THE J.GEILS BAND, Thanks, Peter Wolf
RIP J Giles, and thank you for the good times.
One of the BADDEST bands ever !! My youth !!.......I am 55 now, wow ! " Magic Dick " and Peter Wolfe out front , AWESOME ! " Back to Get Ya ! " and " Shoot Your Shot " MY TOP 10 !!
The magic of those long gone days is sadly missing in this digital age.
@@rmm1774 ABSOLUTELY 🌈
@@depaola63 Nicky, you are my kinda guy with my kinda values, unfortunately, we will have disappeared from the surface of this planet in a decade or two.
SIMPLEMENTE FANTASTICOS.
I remember when mtv gave this airplay… I think the first time I heard of j geils was when comeback was aired on mtv… and of course centerfold was always on constantly. It’s amazing how one
Channel back then gave so many bands exposure. Once the 80s was gone and grunge came in, I was done with mtv. The recording execs are just as much to blame as the recording artists who were paid big bucks to change their 80s sound and move into a different direction. So sad because kids today have no clue what great music is. I’m so glad I got to experience growing up as a teen in the 80s and love some 70s as well.
I was there that night!!
Boston?
My whole family and friends were there.
Hi Jason, how was that concert ?, tell me do you have that concert or that night in video or DVD, there isnt Showtime Concert in DVD, there i is not concert
I wish I was there I don't think I was born yet lol
I saw them there in like 2003 and I’ve seen thousands of bands and none have ever rocked the house like that. Absolutely epic.
the lady rolling on the floor at 1:54 is my coworker !!!!
she is filthy
that's awesome!!!! lmao!! only in the 80s were rockstars looked at as ROCKSTARS!!!!!
@@dsharp7441
That's true.
Pueden pasar mil años pero nunca olvidare ami j geils band, ' lo hago' rolon.
R.I.P., John and thanks for the memories...
I DO , LOVE THIS SONG AND GEILS YES I DO.
Great song.
Sounds like it comes from the 50's.
R.I.P. John Geils
Cuando existe un verdadero cantante y no porquerías como las de ahora fabulosos❤😊
Great Wedding Song
Just the greatest LIVE BAND
Another great Boston band, my town
a wild and professional band!!
Saw them live a number of times back in the 70's,,,, great shows!
Awesome stuff................
I saw them at the Greek Theatre and they were bad-ass then. I listen to their songs often.
Probably my favorite song of theirs. Just great, talented music, all around.
Although its technically a cover..
It's a 60's Soul song by a band called "The Marvelows" back in 1965!
@@Krisztina_Kr That’s right, I think I’ve seen them before. J. Geils version is a little bit longer.
Friend of mine went to see them in concert and he said it was the best concert he ever went to. They put on a great show. Unfortunately, I never saw them in concert.
one of the greatest frontmen ever
Happy birthday Magic Dick!!
J Geils was very big as a concert draw. Wish I could have seen them in concert.
I remember being devastated when songs I loved dropped off the Chum Top 30. Both Centerfold and Freeze Frame hit #1 in 1982 for 2 or 3 weeks.
Ha! I have this on the back of my Freeze Frame 45 record!! Still break out the old 45s!
"it's got a good beat and you can dance to it"
Such a great live band. RIP..J. Geils..
Love this song.
Estupendos, un show completo, un gran tema, mucha energía, esto da ganas de bailar...!!!!
