You have done this perfectly. Thank you for the respect you brought to these songs. I return to this trilogy (and 17th Street Treatment Centre) all the time. They are so powerful. Thank you for taking the time to dig into them

This song makes me think of my old cat, and it makes me sob uncontrollably. Love it.

Kudos to you and your patreon for bringing this trilogy back to light. J. K. Samson is a brilliant lyricist. I hope you have the opportunity to listen to more of his work, especially with The Weakerthans.

Shawn, Interesting story behind the song. I agree, this sounds like clever and brilliant songwriting, writing in perspective of the observation of the cat. Your observation is spot on of your understanding of the powerful story in song. The acoustic guitar makes it sound more personal. You gave a very strong breakdown of the lyrics. This song is a moving listening experience. Powerful song Johnny.

I had always meant to follow John K Sampson more after The Weakerthans disbanded. The Virtute diptic had been a regular refuge for me in my play list during painful times. I'm so glad we now get to hear more about the owner's journey.
Thanks for reviewing these guys. Would love to hear your take on "One Great City", or " New Name For Everything".

One Great City is a love song of sorts to the bands home town of Winnipeg. Lyrically I think it's about identity loss and new beginnings. It references the citie's loss of thier NHL hockey the gentrification of a historic section of the city. All while the resilience of Winnipegers in winter is depicted in the mundain. Musically it builds to a beautiful crushendo.
