I had the LP of this 72’ album! ( it got ripped off)… I really liked Wayne and I saw him at the troubadour in West Hollywood! It was an exciting show! RIP Wayne…
In 1969 a friend and i watched WC and the CC Riders on TV.He was playing one Saturday night at a local club, we were 15 at the time. I called the club the afternoon he was going to play and asked to speak to 'Mr. Cochran.' He came to the phone and I told him were BIG fans and just wanted to say hello and say how much we appreciated his music, but we couldn't get into the club because we were under age. He then invited us to come as his guest and brought us in the stage door. We had seats just off stage left. It was incredible and Mr. WC was the perfect gentleman. WHAT a talent. They don't make them like Mr. WC anymore.
When I was 12 years old, in 1965, while visiting Miami, my father took me to see a midnight show live performance by Wayne. There was a cover charge and a discount for some students. I didn’t have a student ID. So, he told the doorman that because I was only 12, I had to be student as you had to be 16 to quit school. And he let us in.

That was fun and good memories. Wayne and I played together some in early and mid-60s in Macon, where he spent most of his time, even though from nearby Thomaston. We were under the same agent at the time and both worked often in Macon’s first recording studio, affiliated with King Recording Company in Cincinnati, and locally run by Bobby Smith. (This all preceded Capricorn, Allman brothers, and all that, and Phil Walden was still a small time local booking agent there.) I recall Wayne’s grandmother died in Thomaston while he was working at King in Cincinnati. Wayne wanted to attend her funeral, but had no transportation, so another band member and I drove his Cadillac convertible to Cincinnati to pick him and his wife up and drive him back to Macon. In the summer of 1964 when I gave notice to our band that I was leaving music, Bobby Smith and Wayne tried to talk me into joining Wayne‘s band. At the time he was doing many state fairs across the Midwest and alternating a lot with Johnny Rivers and others of that era. However, I was not as committed to music as they were and went on to other things.
Wayne was a blue eyed James Brown. And I knew James for many years and he loved Wayne' s shows. First time I saw Wayne and the CC Riders was on the Jackie Gleason shown. Blew me away. And catgaddis, I bet after all these years you, re still as beautiful as always.

Thanks for posting - its an absolute privilege to witness this great artist in full flight - awesome!!! What the critics fail to realise is that acts that came up in the 50's and early 60's had to play some real hard clubs on the circuit and they had to put on a real show, the clothes, the moves, as well as the great music, to satisfy the crowds. That's where James Brown, The Isleys etc honed their craft, and the same with Wayne. This is one of the great horn funk bands, no doubt!!!
man did not miss 1 funky turn !! What is crazy is that I know more about him since he became a believer in Jesus and His ministry havin a few beers now !!

Per: www.legacy.com/obituaries/uticaod/obituary.aspx?n=wayne-cochran&pid=187371644 MIAMI (AP) - Wayne Cochran, the 'blue-eyed soul' singer known for his towering pompadour, has died of cancer at his Florida home on November 21st, 2017, according to his son Christopher Cochran. He was 78. The singer, who was called the White Knight of Soul for songs like "Last Kiss', saw his heyday in the 1960s and '70s. He had fans from the Blues Brother to Rod Stewart and Elvis Presley, but he gave it all up to become a minister at a church he founded in Miami. The Miami Herald reports the Blues Brothers took notice of one of his hits, "Goin' Back to Miami," and introduced the song to an '80s audience. Cochran and his band the C.C. Riders opened in Las Vegas for a commercially revived Presley. But the life in the fast lane took a toll on him. Tired of partying, he broke up with his band in the 1970s and started the Voice for Jesus Church near Miami Gardens in a row of warehouses. Cochran, who was born in Thomaston, Georgia, told the Miami Herald in a 1983 interview that he was "a hillbilly with a sixth-grade education. I'm a rock 'n' roll singer. And yet, pastors will recognize the anointing and invite you in for four or five days to teach their flocks." As a white teen growing up in west Georgia, Cochran was captivated by black music. "I never heard race in the music. It was just music that spoke to me. It moved me," he told the Herald in 2011. He moved to nearby Macon, and met soul singer Otis Redding. In 1960, he played bass with Redding's band on the single, "Shout Bamalama." Cochran used the power of popular music for the rest of his life through ministry, saying his was not a typical church, but one where folks to come to get ecstatic, have a good time and boogie. At one point, his church spiritually adopted 800 families living in housing projects in Miami's impoverished Liberty City. "He was all about family," said his son Christopher, who is also a pastor. "Over the course of his 25-year career in the music industry he employed over 300 people with different members of the band and the people at his church. He always looked after people. He ran his building like a big family." May he R.I.P.

Uncle? 👀 Are we cousins and don't know it?
@kensteee Wayne and James were the best of friends, we were on his show out of the old WTBS building in HotLanta many times.
What an entrance! What a showman, and what a band!
They are on fire! Helluva horn section. Powerful sound, and Wayne just grooves so bad ass!
THIS GUY IS KILLING IT!!
YES!!
Loved this act. Saw them at the Diamond Club long ago.
You are right ! I only saw him on Gleason ; he TORE the place UP !!!!
I talked to Wayne on the phone once when I was a teen back in the 70's and loving his and Mitch Ryder's styles.
The real showman. Hands down👏 ✋⬇
I found this and am so amazed. Love it. Love this song.
Wayne Cochran always has a state of the art dew, awesome upload :)
IT WAS A PLEASURE WATCHING HIM WHEN HE CAME TO THE ARMORY IN MUNCIE IND
I
He is also credited with writing last kiss by Jay Frank Wilson and the cavaliers
man did not miss 1 funky turn !!
What is crazy is that I know more about
him since he became a believer
in Jesus and His ministry

Has anyone ever heard him play in Shreveport Louisiana at Sax's Boom Boom Room
Thomaston, Georgia… stand up!!😂
This is really awesome. Thank you for making my day! Power to the horns!

They don't make cocaine like that anymore is what happened
Pure Talent
RIP
Elvis's jump suits were modeled after Wayne Cochran who was hot in Vegas when the king played there in the 70's. The compilation CD is great if you can find it. Thanks dude!
Wrong.
Absolute legend. RIP Wayne !
Holy fuck, what a great show they put on! If you stay still while listening and watching this, something is very wrong with you, lol...
Wayne Cockran was not a trend setter, not an enovater. He was a Talent beyond reproach. He wasn t anyone but him. Stop comparing him to Elvis and whoever. Sad to say the last time I saw Wayne was in 71 at the Union 76 Truck Stop in St Augustine Fl. A winnebago and a 5 piece band. Sad. But it happens. He was one of the best stage performers ever. I am honored to call him my friend.
Great video. Rest in Peace, Wayne!
Saw him at the sugar shack in Boston in 1967 he was punching holes in the ceiling and going crazy it was wonderful

MIAMI (AP) - Wayne Cochran, the 'blue-eyed soul' singer known for his towering pompadour, has died of cancer at his Florida home on November 21st, 2017, according to his son Christopher Cochran.
And yet, pastors will recognize the anointing and invite you in for four or five days to teach their flocks."
As a white teen growing up in west Georgia, Cochran was captivated by black music. "I never heard race in the music. It was just music that spoke to me. It moved me," he told the Herald in 2011. He moved to nearby Macon, and met soul singer Otis Redding. In 1960, he played bass with Redding's band on the single, "Shout Bamalama."
Cochran used the power of popular music for the rest of his life through ministry, saying his was not a typical church, but one where folks to come to get ecstatic, have a good time and boogie.
He ran his building like a big family."
May he R.I.P.

At 1:37 and the minutes after that the whole band is on point what a groovy groovy beat and those dance moves far out. I could dance to this
