He lived in Vegas a while. Did lounge shows and rode a. Harley-davidson sporty.Red White and blue. With a glittered headband. A real trip and friendly dude.
Gawd. After discovering Wayne Cochran today (shame on me) I'm watching all the live stuff on RUclips and each one is better than the last. This guy is amaaaazing. I nominate Georgia as the real music capitol of the world.
THAT IS ABOUT AS BADASS AND ROCKIN AS UR GOING TO GET!!! WOULD HAVE KILLED TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE WAYNE COCHRAN AND THE CC RIDERS PERFORM LIVE BACK IN THE DAY!! LEGENDARY!!!
It was a real blast Being a CC Rider Thanks to you my friend for pluging me in on that audition I really enjoyed our rides back from the club in south miami were this unit got tighter by the night .You got to lively up yourself in the blue ford Van !! Take good care JrZy FL
Thank you Jason for sharing this on RUclips. My husband and I worked for Wayne starting in the “old” building (in the strip center), then later in the newer building, from May 1985-November 1986. I remember you.
Wayne was an EXCELLENT entertainer! He had some serious energy, a true rock and roller in its purest sense. RIP, Wayne. You gave us and the Lord God on High immense love.
I enjoyed Mr. Cochran every Wednesday in Miami when he played at the Dadeland towers. Good times and dancing with my dear friend Linda!!! Rock on Wayne!
I have often said that the best voices weren' t the best singers or entertainers Wayne, Joe Cocker and Willy Deville had the worst voices in music. Why then were they so successful? Because they cared and believed in what they were doing. When you saw them you knew you were going to walk away awed at the performance. They left nothing in the dressing rooms. They gave it all to us. Wayne was over the top. The hair? Damn. Preach on Rev. Cochran. We still remember and still love you.
I saw him and his band on the Mike Douglas show back in the mid seventies and they played the song CC Ryder. Wayne and his other guitarists were all playing flying v's. It was really a cool thing to watch.
This video is one of the best on RUclips, It was originally on the Tom Snyder "Tomarrow" show in 1980, which I used to watch during summer vacay when I was in school. That night Tom repeatedly referred this show "Georgia boys night", because the other two guests were Billy Carter (still the first brother at that time) and Little Richard. It was an unforgettable experience that I thought about a lot for 29 years and thanks to a great person on RUclips I and everyone else can see it again!!
wayne played guitar on the midnight special. the cc riders and the bee gees backed jerry lee lewis . i talked to wayne on the phone in 1997 and he told me it was a thrill to play behind jerry lee. i first saw wayne on the UPBEAT tv show from cleveland in the late 60s. he talked a lot about his friendship with otis redding. a great performer who should be in the hall of fame.
Attention WC and the CC Riders fans. There is a new compilation album in the works. Possibly 2 discs, 2+ hrs of music, a lot of live concert recordings.
@Jacques... It was also a real blast being entertained by Wayne and the Riders..I seen you guys in St.Louis twice at the Chase Park Plaza. You guys were great. Such Showmanship that you guys displayed. It was always a gas when you all the Riders would walk out into the crowd playing and Wayne grabbing full bottles of booze from the bar a topping off everyone's drink. Great Fun. You guys were Great musicians and entertainers, which as you know better than I don't always go together.
Jason, how thrilled I was to discover you are on here, keeping his legend alive. I watched the movie the C C Riders, and was mesmerized by Wayne Cochran. Imagine I also noticed Sid Haig was in the film the CC Riders,so I got the the chance to chat with Sid about the film, andHe got so emotional, telling ne how kind Wayne Cochran, and Ann Margaret were! And he was shocked I even knew about the film. Legend are eternal!!
great post. i remember seeing wayne on the mike douglas show back in the 70`s.i don`t remember the song, but he was wearing this cool white jumpsuit with a cape . does anyone have an old vhs copy out there?
I knew he could sing like that, but the guitar? Man, how could he ever give it up? I know he's a minister now, but couldn't he still go out and rock on the weekends? Killer stuff!
As strange as that may seem, it’s likely true. In total there were approximately 100 members of the band in different times, the highest number at once would’ve been about 20 members on stage.
Jason Cochran I got it and I must say, that there are 20 something tracks that were not on the other compilation released by Raven Records. It is a must-have for all Wayne Cochran fans! Thank you so much for mentioning it! I also uploaded a song from the collection! If you ever get the chance, let me know what you think!
Had no idea he was such a fantastic guitarist, his group in the early 60's had a few instrumentals released under the name The Rocking Capris, did wayne play lead guitar on these?his name appears with writers credits on some.
As far as he knows it was never recorded. But they played Proud Mary on the Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. If anyone knows how to find it let me know. I've never heard it either but a few people say it was great.
Wayne still does sporadic reunions with the C.C. Riders , and even his church stuff is pretty rockin' , what I've heard. He seems to be at ease with secular music , but , does it only when the spirit moves him , if you'll pardon the expression. BUT , and this is no joke , look up Jerry Lee Lewis and The Bee Gees doing "Money"....Who is that white - haired cat with the V- neck guitar ? It sure is.
Who is here in 2024? WE LOVE OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL
I am disappointed that i lived 50 yrs and have performing 1500 live shows since 1979 and never knew of this raw talent. Love!!!!

I'm at that discovery stage now, can't believe I never heard of him till now.

I had no idea he was such a good guitar player. Great entertainer, full of soul and energy. I love this guy!

Never knew Wayne played guitar!! He's got that great Keith Richards slop thing going...

(Cont.). Thanks for the memories. I will always remember those shows...
Thanks Jason for sharing Wayne's work. I remember him when I was a kid in Thomaston.
I knew he could sing like that, but the guitar? Man, how could he ever give it up? I know he's a minister now, but couldn't he still go out and rock on the weekends? Killer stuff!
when i was 22 saw his show with the c-c- riders...he was great.
tbear
I bought Jacques Cartier that Red Bass he is playing for this show :-)
Fabulous !!!
So far, I've run across about six guys commenting they were Wayne Cochran's drummer on these videos.
As strange as that may seem, it’s likely true. In total there were approximately 100 members of the band in different times, the highest number at once would’ve been about 20 members on stage.
Wow how did this guy get forgotten?
He popped up in a documentary I saw recently about Jaco Pastorius. Wayne Cochran gave the young future jazz legend his start in show business.
Thanks Jason, he was fantastic.
Wayne performed Proud Mary on the Diana Shore Show.
Wow, he is very good. I have never heard about him before, I think he didn't make success here in Brazil, but he os great. How can I buy CDs or DVDs ?
Wayne Cochran Going Back To Miami. The Soul Sides. Now available at AceRecords website. 2 cds. 2hrs music. 38 tracks.
Jason Cochran I got it and I must say, that there are 20 something tracks that were not on the other compilation released by Raven Records. It is a must-have for all Wayne Cochran fans! RIP Wayne. And though that guitar might have been in tune when he bought it, somebody should have checked it before this performance.
that is how you do it. badass pulled out his flying V. tuned, sound checked and rocked it.
As far as he knows it was never recorded. But they played Proud Mary on the Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. If anyone knows how to find it let me know. I've never heard it either but a few people say it was great.
I know its 13 years later, but nothing ventured...are you Wayne's son?
so good! thanks for sharing
Watching CC Rider with Joe Namath and Ann Margaret brought me here.
What years did Jacob Pastorius play behind Wayne? I heard him mention it in an interview.
Early 70s, that's the best I can do
Any chance you can upload Wayne singing with Little Richard on this show?
Wow....this is cool
Good Lord.."Mr. Cover Song". And what a pomodour; enough to make Little Richard jealous.
He played bass for Otis R.
@abuiltmale Diane didn't pass away from Cancer. She passed away from ALS.
First time i ever heard about wayne was when i watched " CC RIDERS WITH JOE NAMOUTH AND ANNE MARGARET
Smokin" fun! Really works up to a blisterin finish. Thanks for posting. Obviously Donald Trump is a huge fan, eh?
Wayne still does sporadic reunions with the C.C. Riders , and even his church stuff is pretty rockin' , what I've heard. He seems to be at ease with secular music , but , does it only when the spirit moves him , if you'll pardon the expression.

White boy soul and the girl in the background wasn't too bad herself
Hot damn ... good licks.
James Brown and Bob Segar both had a love child
Definitely, Wayne did as well. I live in Atlanta
Is there a studio version of this?

Go, Wayne, go!!! :-D

Still hoping for that episode to be found online. Unless my memory is tricking me there was duet with Wayne and Little Richard on this show.
WOW!!!
Quite a surprise, and a pleasant one. Who knew? Thanks for posting it. ( Any idea who the rhythm guitar is? He looks familiar. )
I know your post is three years old, but here is a performance of Proud Mary.

Rather hear him do "Harlem Shuffle".
I take it Jaco Pastorius was long gone from the band at this point?

No
Sure looks like Wayne on guitar in this old clip from Midnight Special.....ruclips.net/video/ihHWKWEZWVw/видео.html

That performance could get him into Soul Heaven.

I can't believe he turned into another tacky, blithering tv evangelist begging for donations... ugh.
Wow this sucks
