I own Sony 14 1.8. From what I see sample astro photos of the Viltrox, the Sony is way better but the Viltrox isn’t that bad. Stars from the Sony have zero wing. Those 2mm difference is crucial for astro timelapse because every little bit of angle of view counts (we can’t do panoramic stitch) but for normal astro photo you’re not gonna see a difference. I will definitely buy this Viltrox for video works since I own 82mm circular CPL + VND filter and 82mm circular Black Mist 1/8 and 1/4 filters. My suggestion is if you only have budget for 1 lens, doing both still photo and video work and astro work isn’t your first priority, get the Viltrox. If you are like me, astro work is your first priority, get the Sony.

Astrophotography isn't the main thing to main, so gonna see how the Viltrox does and if it's "good enough" or "close enough" to the GM then might keep it and see what Sony will come up with next like a wild 12mm f1.8 or something. As a f/1.8 prime, it is surprisingly cheaper than Sigma 17 f/4.

What this lens shows, is not "will they be able to make a profit", because obviously they do, but it shows how ridiculously overpriced other manufacturers are and how much they push their profit margins.
This is what I have always been wondering is that 50 and 100 mm lenses are "cheap", but then 35, 85 and 135 mm are usually more expensive. Likewise, I have never understood how primes are more expensive than zooms, as zooms need to compensate for so many different things due to moving elements. There's no logic

If the manufacturer of the product messaged you, I very much doubt you hesitated to take the product that generates income for you.
The best thing reviewers can do is to purchase these products, especially these cheap products so you can remain unbiased.

The point is 16mm is far more useful in real life than 14mm lens. 14mm is just way to wide for most usage.
