The killer feature here is being f1.8 and you can still use regular front filters! Would love to see the performance for astrophotography vs the GOAT Sony 14mm f1.8 GM.
I own Sony 14 1.8. From what I see sample astro photos of the Viltrox, the Sony is way better but the Viltrox isn’t that bad. Stars from the Sony have zero wing. Those 2mm difference is crucial for astro timelapse because every little bit of angle of view counts (we can’t do panoramic stitch) but for normal astro photo you’re not gonna see a difference. I will definitely buy this Viltrox for video works since I own 82mm circular CPL + VND filter and 82mm circular Black Mist 1/8 and 1/4 filters. My suggestion is if you only have budget for 1 lens, doing both still photo and video work and astro work isn’t your first priority, get the Viltrox. If you are like me, astro work is your first priority, get the Sony.
About the sharpness, the Viltrox looks sharper than the Sony on a test chart because the Sony has some field curvature. At landscape distance the Sony will look better than at test chart distance. I gotta say Viltrox did a great job here for having zero field curvature.
@@XDR2201 Amazing summary, mate. Well explained. I really appreciate your comment and might end up buying both in the end but starting with the Viltrox for now.
