    With the Big 12 exploring a new bowl game in Mexico, what international bowl would you create? (You cant make the Whataburger Germany Bowl, thats mine)

      The Broken Empire Bowl (Brought to you by Blockbuster). We force the Ivy League back up to FBS, and have the two winners of the Ivy League play in the heart of the former Ottoman Empire, Istanbul

      There was a UAE bowl under consideration but let's be honest Saudi Arabia would probably want a bowl game of their own. Call it the Qiddiya Bowl after one of their diversification projects and send a team each from the ACC (Preferably not SMU, Cal or Stanford) and the American to take part and hold it in King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. What can possibly go wrong?
      Yes once they get a stadium the game will move to Qiddiya, stop asking.

      There was a Havana Bowl for awhile. Nowadays you have The Mitchell and Uteck Bowls in Canada which qualify two Teams to joust for The Vanier Cup. And you also have Japanese College Teams. Fascinating twist on the usual scene.🤔🏈B.W.

    Our local newspaper posted a list of all the upcoming bowl games back in the 90s that referenced the Haka Bowl once. I remember waiting to hear about it again around Christmas, only to end up believing I’d dreamt it up. This was the dial-up era, so I didn’t even think to look it up until today.

    Not a bowl game, but does anybody remember the Glasnost Bowl project? When USC and Illinois were supposed to play each other in Russia/the Soviet Union to start off the 1989 season? I’m kinda sad that one never came to be.

    Can we get a bowl game in which the best American college team plays the best Canadian football team, and the game can switch year to year between both countries?

    • @lukeontheplains
      @lukeontheplains  9 месяцев назад +6

      This would actually be pretty cool. I know the Ivy plays a Japanese team at the end of the season, but that game is pretty low profile. Would be neat if more schools did this, even though the NCAA wouldn't sponsor it.

      McGill of Montreal played Harvard in the early 20th Century when Harvard was considered a Major Gate Attraction. How long ago? Centre College knocked off Harvard in what was considered at the time an astonishing upset. Centre's enrollment then was all of about 300 on the Danville, Kentucky campus!🤔🇺🇸🇨🇦🏈B.W.

    For the record, I went to all 4 international bowls
    The one with Buffalo in it almost had a full house and it’s a shame they lost, the Huskies got the trophy with almost no one remaining in the skydome.
    As the skydome has been converted into a baseball stadium only, and this year they are turning the seats around to make a better ballpark experience, bringing this game back to Toronto is impossible currently.
    Let’s not also mention that the name for the game outright sucked. I sometimes joked it should have been called the Tim Hortons Coffee Bowl, or even the Maple Bowl or Maple Syrup Bowl.
    The only way a bowl game comes back to Toronto is if a true indoor NFL stadium is built, and I say good luck with that.

      It's something I've thought about, being from Kansas. I have a lot of Wushock friends who've talked to me about it. Just feels like the money barrier is too high for a new team, but if there's some momentum towards a minidoc on that team I'd look into it in the future.

    All I can say is I am so glad that the Bahamas bowl is no longer existing, at least temporarily. It was like Covid games before Covid existed. Nobody showed up and literally nobody cared. It was brutal. I had to watch my UAB in the Bahamas bowl last year and let me tell you It was absolutely lethargic. I would prefer that there are never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever anymore international Bowl games, but if there are any… At least put big name teams internationally so some people might show up and put them in places that actually care about the sport.

    The Aztec Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned college division/minor (prior to 1997); AFCA Division III (since 1997) Division II/III (since 2011) post-season bowl game that has been played intermittently since 1947. From 1947 to 1949 the event was called the Silver Bowl, and in 1950 the name was changed to the Aztec Bowl.

    • @Commodore22345
      @Commodore22345 9 месяцев назад

      Nah, isn't going to happen. They were going to start the Cincinnati Chili Bowl (that's seriously what they were going to call it) this season, but the NCAA didn't approve it. And with the playoff going to 12 teams, non-playoff bowl games are going to become even less popular (and less profitable) than they already are. If anything, the NCAA is going to continue to reduce the number of bowl games until they are gone completely. Cincinnati waited too long to try to get a bowl game.

    • @MirasomeRailfan

      @@Commodore22345 It was rejected due to NCAA not planning Bowl games to be added this season

    • @Commodore22345
      @Commodore22345 9 месяцев назад

      @@MirasomeRailfan And they aren't going to add anymore next season either. The simple fact of the matter is bowl games are on their way out. Attendance is poor, TV ratings for most of them are low and the people who run most of these bowl games have been complaining for years that they aren't making any money on them. Teams are also becoming less willing to play in these bowl games too with some teams declining bowl bids and star players opting to sit out rather than risk injury and kill their chances at going to the NFL in a meaningless game.
      Like it or not, the only thing that matters in college football now is the playoff.
