I played it in a emulator first time. And when i realised there were not checkpoints... what?. Now i've got the original cartridge cause i felt in love with this shump haha. The good thing about going back to the beginning, is that you can upgrade some, due all of them has gone... But some later stages without the right weapon you are dead meat; and your strategy changes completely. Double wave laser is your friend. Like the knife in super ghouls and ghosts hehe. Powerful and with the help of the pods, you are perfectly guarded. It's a pity that pods don't negate bullets. One thing I want to say, is that I don't hate the slowdowns. It helps in my opinion. There is out there a hack that eliminates that "sprite overflow". Is it easier to play in that condition? I don't think so. Overall, like you say: music, graphics, controls and gameplay are awesome. I remember having that game and having some frustrating hours on it! back in its day It was quite ahead of its time! It was hard as balls However I did complete it eventually! Graphics and music was awesome
This game was phenomenal for its time and difficulty several hours I never attempted hard mode as a kid, because easy took that spot to a whole new level. I did manage to beat it twice back then and never was consistent the level resets were to brutal.
