Rivian R1S and R1T (second-gen) first drive: Fantastic yet familiar

- Rivian has a new truck and an SUV hitting the market this year, but at a casual glance you'd never know it. In fact, take a long, hard look and you'd still be hard-pressed to figure out that there's anything new with the second-generation versions of the R1S SUV and R1T truck. But new batteries, motors, and control circuits make for comprehensively updated machines.
But are they actually any better? That's what we headed to Seattle to find out.

I wouldn't call this mega at all. It's. A Minor refresh
This was the American dream but now it has come true, we will see more Rivian around us in the coming years and I think everyone would like to have a car like this on their doorstep. You will see them wherever you look, especially after the affordable R2-R3 models hit the roads. 😍
The Rivian styling still looks fresh. I especially like the R1T.

Fully agree to this. I have a rivian. And I do not miss Apple CarPlay at all
When you can respond to texts/messages in the dash I'll agree with you. Until then... It's a major gap
I have the feature selected to concentrate on driving. Paying attention to the road is more important to me than to have a feature to reply to a text. I minimize distractions. There are already too many people not paying attention on the roads

Rivian drawing a line & not having android auto or apple car play built in is fine. What they appear to have is fine. Both those companies likely charge for the software to be included, and I'm all for anything that can lower EV prices. Both those companies (especially apple) tend to meddle in what their partners can and can't do. Anyway, no big deal.
why is there no forest edge option for the r1t?
I'm not sure why car reviewers always hammer on the Rivians and Teslas not having Apple Carplay or Android Auto. I've owned a Rivian and a couple of Teslas, as well as a couple of other cars with Carplay and Android Auto, and I'd much prefer Rivian's and Tesla's interfaces to connecting my phone, which always feels like a compromised interface/interaction.
Cars look good. Are they mainstream in the US?
I don’t understand why they didn’t modify the unibody on the R1T refresh. Getting into a wreck in one of the basically guarantees it will be totaled simply due to how insanely expensive it is to repair
When can I buy these in Europe? Specifically Scandinavia.
If you’re not going to have CarPlay or Android Auto, you at least do this… good to see native Apple Music alongside other choices.

definitely should have tweaked the exterior a little bit. i would think that is the easiest of updates.
This is the second generation vehicle from a very small company. It's way cheaper to do a slight refresh like the thinner lights as mentioned
To be. honest of the best driving assitance automation navigation is on the BMW electrics this days, but this Rivian look great if you are more in a budget!

Impressive truck but needs better third-row seating functionality. Hopefully they make it powered so it's easier to put up and down.
