Thank you for sharing your experiences about LA. Your stories have been most helpful. I was out in LA in 2002 and 2003. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. I’ve also played in New York City and I’ve always loved my experiences there.

Yeah I've been in LA all my life, I did some traveling when I was younger and I saw how people treated each other in different countries, & it really opened my eyes. Yes the LA women & back stabbing fellow musicians is all 100% true. Like you I was very trusting with people, got burned a few times & learned my lessons. I could relate to your stories all too well. I would like to hear more of your stories like maybe when you were in Europe & other countries. The truths you share are so needed, as many new musicians need a dose of reality to put them on the right path. You're right Phil, drumming is a spiritual journey!

Wow.. no one shares these stories. Thanks for sharing this. It is especially hard in the music industry because it is so much less organized than many other industries. And lesser regulation, contracts etc. means more backstabbing.

People are generally afraid to talk about such things. They want everyone to think their life is all roses and sunshine. Ha!

Such an honest recount of how LA is. I went out there for a couple days back in the early ninety’s. Everybody was really nice and I mean really nice., until they found out I was a nobody and I couldn’t help them climb the ladder . Like you said, they turn their backs on you and just carry on. I’ve also lived in Nashville and NY. It definitely puts a thick shin on you. I found my home though and have been blessed and grateful for what I have.

Great to hear someone talking about the actual reality of things. About the hard times, the heartbreaks, the persistence which is required to survive in this and every other creative industry.
It's so refreshing after all those RUclipsrs sounding almost the same.
I saw you and Alex Acuña playing together many years ago in a small town called Marktoberdorf. Great memories. :)

Thank you buddy! That was an amazing week. Full of drumming and soul. IN the OLD days hahaha...these things were shared among friends and colleagues all the time. Stories. Adventures. Mishaps. BUT now....people think they can cover up their lack of musical knowledge and ability by posting lessons about dablushdas and licks on YT. Never even having played gigs. It really is a symptom of the internet separating us rather than uniting us. So much more to say about this topic. Thanks for writing and sending many greetings from South America

amazing to hear about your experiences in LA. i`ve been thinking about to move to the US and try to get better chances. What about London? do you have any experience there? are there also so many opportunities like in LA or NY? greetings from Germany

Hi friend. Well...better chances at what? That is the question. Personally I wouldn't exchange Germany for the USA EVER. You are lucky you are from there! London is cool but i cannot emigrate there as a US citizen. You could go there no problem. You dont realize how lucky you are!

@@philmaturanodrums hey Phil , thx for reply! i meant better chances for a music career. In Germany is very hard to find like minded people who wants do music for a living. german mindset is very conservative.. Germans dont like to take a risk, all has to be easy and convenient. So the very opposite of a career as musician. Music is well consumed here but not made. People are conditioned to become engineers, lawyers or craftsmen, what sounds safe and that is what this country wants. Music is not an export product like in the US or Uk . because of that there is not so many opportunities, consequently people are not interested in investing time in learning to play an instrument at a high level. That s my theorie why the scene here sucks..

@@verruckt19 i lived in Germany for 8 years. Much much better then usa. In usa the scene is an utter disaster my man. Stay in Europe. If you play your ass off the gigs will find you and you live in a much better society.
