I always figured this car was never made for le mans even with them putting LM in the name. It looked nothing like an lmp1. So when i saw that center exhaust in the vid i already knew where this was going. When ferrari puts their mind to it they can really do some cheeky stuff.
Maybe for nurburgring nordschleife fastest lap record
@@study_666 Doesn´t look like it made enough downforce, even at the time. No Ferrari beat the Zonda R, prototype or not, they´re generally not that good at the Nürburgring
Edit: It makes downforce, I mean it doesn´t look ring proof, it was designed for testing on a completely smooth track. Plus who the hell hides a Nürburgring prototype, it was clearly more important
@@afoxwithahat7846 that’s not really the case. Ferrari for some reason doesn’t believe in setting Nurburgring lap times because it’s undignified or some shit (iunno, but whatever it is, it’s probably similar to something Enzo Ferrari would say)
@afoxwithahat7846 definitely looks like it has enough downforce though
Ferrari is such a unique ‘animal’. The secrets & mysteries and politics make their products all the more fascinating. Thank you for making it easy to understand the concepts.
This vehicle reminds me loosely of the Maserati MC12.
They are kind of related... MC12 would be the uncle of this here.
@@BSport320 MC12 GT1 on steroids
I'm sure there are plenty of other stories of this type!
Personally, I would like to see more F1 testing and dumping the uninteresting new tracks (sorry Mr Tilke).
One of the really good features of Le Mans in the sixties was the SLR class which led to so marvellous cars.
This is worth a tale in itself as there were some interesting aerodynamics that were simply forgotten until decades later.
Gotta defend tilke here. His tracks don't suck. just the fixed parts around landmarks which were out of his control. If every new track were by hugenholtz, it would be just as "uninteresting."
@@BTcaice doesnt Tilke do the architecture as well? His are the only tracks with the extravagant grandstands.
Tilke had had to desighn his fair share of psudo street ciruits tho, which i think he gets unfairly critisised for.
And they erased probably his best since Baku, Vietnam, from existence
The prototype was already presented in the Ferrari museum in 2015. Clients were even told what's under the skin.
Great analysis as always.
Thanks for the info! What were they told at the time?
I remember watching the video of that prototype going around Fiorano over and over again, as the rumours started flying it was indeed the 2014 F1 engine. As a Ferrari fan, it was a shame that engine turned out to be very underwhelming (the car itself was too for that matter).
Just makes you tip your hat to Mercedes they didn't have to resort to any of these shenanigans and yet they still churned out a monster of an engine. I'm also a Ferrari fan
@@defnotatroll u sure? merc started developing the engine much more earlier than the competition back then and had private secret tests with pirelli
6:11 wow I stood by that fence during mu visit in Maranello, funny seeing that perspective
Great video! Very straightforward and in depth analysis. Can you please do a video about MotoGP's 2023 aero war?
*_FIA has entered the chat_*
Epic video. Very well made.
Much appreciated!
Wow I saw that one in Maranello at the museum!
This car is very beautiful ( maybe not so much of the wing)
Imagine adding a lmp1 style fin to it and a matching wing, this car looks so beautiful and aggressive I love it.
would love to see laptimes of this car, i reckon they can beat current gt3 cars 🤔
consider it was a F1 engine test bed with a lot more power than GT3 car. it might be LMP2 level in lap time.
So this was an illegal test vehicle?
Yep.
I went to the test track at maranello and Saw this car driving around! What a beauty🤩
exceptional video !
Many thanks!
A few years ago the info plate infront of the car used to humorously claim that the engine is a 6262cc V12 and that the project was "to verify the car's potential in a hypothetical enclosed wheel car championships" and adding that "the aerodynamic appendages and clearly F1-inspired aeroscope air intake are interesting."
Very enjoyable video
Thank you very much!
F150 name appeared during mandatory F1 summer break in 2013. FIA has means to check if teams are actually out. Thus, we were instructed by Farrari to avoid any reference to F1, and instead all communication should be about "F150" project.
Interesting, thanks!
It seems like the prototype sound is much less muffled and raw as compared to the F1 car.
Would be great to have a more aggressive sound in F1 again.
Brilliant Analysis
Thanks a lot!
Very interesting 👍
Thanks for the visit
Good that we are back from Dakar off-road to normal asphalt tracks :)
👍
Welcome back :)
great video
Thanks for the visit
This was so detailed
I always thought that was the purpose of that prototype.
What a neat car. Half f1 car half la Ferrari
Just to finish in 4th place with 2 podiums
I would like to see the Steering Wheel. They couldn´t use the one from the 458 or LaFerrari, right?
If I remember correctly it was the F1 steering wheel.
I was at the museum this summer, it uses the same one as the f1 car
Cool car
"top edge" car design is my favourite
So basically Ferrari's AMG One that never made it into production
Edit: I know this is earlier than AMG One was even a thing but just wanted to summerize it in one sentence
спасибо
You are welcome!
would they have been able to drive a similar engine in le mans?
Actually, yes. The LMP1-H regulations were amended to allow the 2014 F1 V6T-H to compete at LeMans. It was way too expensive and they would never last the full race (even the highly-detuned AMG-One needs a rebuild every 50000kms)
6:10 DID I HEAR A BLOW OFF VALUVE
Tbh, this just seems like a purely Italian thing to do lol. Or at the very least, it sounds like something only Ferrari would do
a amg gt one from ferrari before even the amgg gt one was a thing
from the back it looks like a Maserati MC12
I don't quite understand how they sold it and it's now in their museum. Ferrari's museum or where?
Yes Ferrari Museum Maranello, by the toilets😅
This Ferrari prototype is much cool than the 499P.
could mercedes do something similar with the AMG One?
good point!
that's a "roadcar" not a prototype, so no
@@fuzzy1dk disguise it as a prototype
@@lizwikhoza202 all the extra works and compromises to make a road doesn't make sense for a grey area engine test prototype
@@fuzzy1dk putting junky body work together costs nothing when compared to the data gathering and knowledge you gain by exploiting that grey area. It's more than worth it
b-b-b-but mercedes was the only team to bend the rules ahead of the hybrid engine regulations
Yeah haha, EVERY team (or at the Very least the big ones/ engine makers) do lots of tests before the start of a new era, they are fucking f1 teams, not children playing
All that work and they still made the worst engine of 2014. Not to mention the car...
To be fair, Renault far and away made the worst engine of 2014.
I like how sly Ferrari is
Ferrari so hot right now.
Funny though that their 2014 engine was a bit crap.. very edgy and with an uncontrollable laggy boost..😁
👍💪✌️
This is a pretty scummy move by Ferrari when you think about it. That engine development was a nightmare for all the teams if I remember correctly
Pre-season testing was exciting
Well Mercedes had 5 extra years on everyone and lobbied heavily for the 1.6s
Fun because Ferrari fans like me like to complain about "Mercedes secret tests with the 2014 regulations". I say, F1 is F1, let the teams run tests
bravo ... spy company should hire your services ...
So blatant cheating then? Typical Ferrari.
Siempre que puedo lo digo, desde que Pininfarina dejó de diseñar los Ferraris, estos me parecen feos y sin personalidad.
