Two of my all-time faves. Both absolute Queens.

One of the best scenes I have ever seen. The duel of the dialogue between two great actresses.

Ava gets slated as not being the strongest actress but she totally hold her own with Stanwyck. Such a good scene 🔥

Stanwyck holds her own and then some - and she does NOT look 15 years older than Ava. The two lovely ladies died within a short time of each other in 1990.

There's no comparison between Barbara Stanwyck and Ava Gardner. When Mervyn LeRoy's "East Side West Side" was made back in the late 40's, Ms. Stanwyck was an already established actor and star. Ava was just coming up and added to the film's glamour quotient. She plays the other woman, who literally throws herself on Stanwyck's husband [James Mason] before she is pumped off by another spurned suitor. Ava came into her own as an actress of admirable talent during the 50's and 60's. In the looks-department, Ava was truly gorgeous with those tantalizing green eyes of hers. She was such a knockout in "Magambo', people barely noticed Grace Kelly who was also in the film with her la-di-da attitude.

In the movie Ava made before this one (The Bribe) she was having a torrid affair with Robert Taylor, Stanwyck's husband at the time.

In a lucky alternate universe they do that "scene" with each other from Requiem for a Dream.

The character Ava played mirrored her private life exactly. She slept with so many married men during her life and thought nothing of it, starting with Sinatra. She ended up a sad, unmarried, childless alcoholic

      Including Stanwyck's husband!
