Most male cattle are made into steers and slaughtered for food by age 2-3.
A bull destined for the corrida de toros lives a longer, leisurely, indulged life, and has a chance to get back at humanity before they go.
Considering the options a bull has I think he would, if cognizant of a choice, opt to take his chance in the corrida, versus living as a steer for 2 years and then dying.
A far nobler life, given his options.

Thanks for sharing this film. Tyrone Power died just one year after this film was made and Errol Flynn died two years after. The film was troubled by many late casting changes and had continuity issues. The film was supposed to be set in Pamplona, Spain, but the season was not suitable so the crew went to Mexico instead.
Ernest Hemingway walked out of the film after just 25 minutes saying the film looked silly because a Mexican location was used for a significant part of the film.

This was the Paris of Mistinguett (whose legs were insured in 1919 for 50,000 Francs) and Maurice Chevalier. Also the unforgettable Josephine Baker. Plus more truly great artists and writers than you could shake a stick at ! One would have thought that just 35 years later they could have done a more convincing job of reproducing it.

I’m sure there are plenty of comments - at least from those who have read the novel - saying that the film paled in comparison, and I suppose they’re right. But what if the film hadn’t been miscast so badly? Who made those decision? Ava Gardner and Juliette Gréco were perfect, but the male leads were all 20-25 yrs too old. And poor Tyrone Power … good as always, but too old for the part and would have looked 10yrs younger had the brylcream been removed from his hair.

Flynn's post-mortem exam showed that his body was in a very poor state for someone of his age: he'd been lucky to make it to age 50.
Power was unlucky in having lived with a heart problem that he'd inherited from his father, who also died young. He died while filming a forgettable "sword-and-sandles" picture in Spain, in 1958.
