He is ALL OVER THIS SONG! I love Shelia E. I use to be a flight attendant, and one night I had a passenger in first class flying from Phoenix to LA, by the name of Shelia Escovedo. Well
I didn’t put two and two together until I went to her seat and asked her if she would like a pre departure cocktail…so, I’m looking at the passenger manifest, and I see her name and then see her face under a huge white large round brim hat and I about choked on my tongue! I said wait….hold on…Ms Shelia E?!?!?! I told her how much I loved her and her music and she was SO SO SO SO FREAKING NICE!!!! She called me baby…lol! She took pics with me!!!! Sheila E. joined Prince's backing band as their romance grew, and as she recalled in a 2016 Billboard interview, they became briefly engaged after Prince proposed in 1987. However, by the 1988-89 Lovesexy Tour their relationship fractured, and Sheila E. subsequently left Prince and the band once it came to a close. Sheila Cecilia Escovedo went on to have a solo career. Her dad was a musician, as well.

"The Glamorous Life" is probably her most popular song.
Also, Sheila E. played drums in "U Got the Look" by Prince, while Sheena Easton was the one singing with him. You reacted to her song "9 to 5 (Morning Train)".
"Erotic City" by Prince and Sheila E. (the drummer) is a jam, but contains "the F word". Sheila didn't want to say that word, so she replaced it with "funk", while Prince said the actual curse word. 🙂 Good for Sheila!👍🏽
She comes from a famous family of Latin musicians. Her dad is percussionist Pete Escovedo.
Her niece, actress Nicole Richie was adopted by Lionel Richie and his first wife, Brenda. A lot of talent circles these people.

Sheila E = Sheila Escovedo. Her father, Pete Escovedo, was a legendary Latino percussionist and Sheila learned from a master. She also recorded at least one album with her father - that was fire.

Sheila E. and Sheena Easton were both in Prince's U Got The Look video. Sheena Easton was singing co- lead, Sheila E was playing drums. Sheila has played drums for many artists including Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, and ironically Ringo Starr. I believe the video for this song contains scenes from Krush Groove which starred Sheila E., along with Run-DMC, The Fat Boys, The Beastie Boys, LL CooJ, and Kurtis Blow. Prince met Sheila E. at a concert in 1977, when she was performing with her father. After the show he met her and told her that he and his bassist Andre Cymone "were just fighting about which one of us would be the first to be your husband." He also vowed that one day she would join his band. The two would eventually join forces during the Purple Rain recording sessions. She provided vocals on the B-side to "Let's Go Crazy", "Erotic City" in 1984. Though taken under Prince's wing, she proved to be a successful artist in her own right

You should check out The Glamorous Life, her debut monster jam/hit. She eventually joined Prince's band as his drummer (and eventually his fiancee). Both Sheena and Sheila were in the You've Got the Look video with Sheila playing drums on it.

Thank you so much for playing one of my all time favorite songs by one of my favorite female artists. You guys are on fire tonight. 🔥 This song is from the movie "Krush Groove" from 1985 which was a great musical film that had artists like LL Cool J in it (and which Sheila E had a part in also). You may want to play this one on your movie channel since it's about music.

Sheila E. might be my favorite drummer. I saw her in concert with Prince in the late 80's, she blew me away when the lights went out and her drum sticks glowed.

I forgot about this one. She's so talented (and good looking). Her Dad or Uncle played percussion with Santana for quite awhile. BTW, you should see her play percussion. Stellar.

Amazing percussionist. She was a big fan of Karen Carpenter. She was young and watched the televised Battle of the Bands in Los Angelos in which The Dick Carpenter trio won.. It was Richard and Karen playing jazz. All instrumental I believe Karen was 16 at the time. She gives Karen a lot of credit for highlighting female drummers. Sheila took after her father and went on to be a top Percussionist in the music world.

My favorite is Belle of St Mark.
Sheils was part of the Revolution, playing drums and any percussion.
Sheena teamed with Prince and he wrote songs for both.

As others mentioned, the song was written with Prince who sings backing on the song. The highly recognizable sound is part of the “Minneapolis Sound” sub-genre that Prince pioneered.

The first time I saw Prince, Sheilaa E was playing drums with the band. Chaka Khan was the opening act. Fantastic concert. You should give a listen to "Erotic City", a duet with Prince.

You barely see Sheila E. in the "U Got The Look" video (a shame because she looks AMAZING in the white body suit) - towards the beginning when the band walks in, and when she bounces a drumstick off the floor, catching it in perfect time

This is a scene from the 1985 movie "Krush Groove" which was actually pretty good, but it wasn't no "Breakin'".... Huge '80s controversy 😂😂😂 but "Glamorous Life" is undoubtedly Sheila E's greatest hit❤️
