- In this SharePoint training video, we will introduce you to the concept of SharePoint hub sites and show you how they can benefit your organization.
We'll explain the difference between a hub site and a regular SharePoint site, and discuss how hub sites can help you organize and share content across multiple sites.
In this SharePoint Tutorial I will explain exactly how to create a SharePoint Hub site.
This starts with creating a SharePoint communication site. I will then show you how to register as a Hub site.
We'll also explore some of the key features and capabilities of SharePoint hub sites, and provide tips and best practices for using them effectively.
I will also discuss what a SharePoint Hub site can do. Including sharing your company colours and brand throughout your intranet.
It can share permissions to sites that are associated to it. So, you no longer need SharePoint subsites in Modern SharePoint Online.
You can also build a shared mega menu that is populated on the Hub Site and will appear on all of the child sites that are associated to the SharePoint Hub Site.
We can also roll up content such as news roll ups from associated SharePoint sites onto the SharePoint Hub Site.
Events web part can also roll up from associated SharePoint sites.
By the end of the video, you'll have a solid understanding of what SharePoint hub sites are and how they can help you improve collaboration and productivity within your organization.
So whether you're new to SharePoint or a seasoned user, join us for this informative and engaging tutorial and learn how to create a SharePoint hub site today!

Hi Dougie, thanks for the great video👍Upon creating a teamsite as a hub, would it be possible to roll-up list contents, tasks and documents, residing in associated sites and folders? Would be really helpful for setting up a PMO.
Yes! You can roll up many types of content onto a hub site including documents, news, events and more!
Hey Dougie - Your videos are very helpful. What is the different between App Bar and Hub Site with regards to Global Navigation? Which one should I use for my Intranet and is one replacing the other? Thanks.
Hey Ben, glad you find my videos useful. The App launcher is all of the Microsoft 365 apps, this is universal everywhere in your Microsoft 365 tenant. Where as the hub nav bar is just for your share point intranet.
Hey Dougie. Great video. Is it possible for a site that is associated to a Hub Site to only inherit permissions, not the colors (Theme)?
Not at the moment, it will automatically inherit the colours as well
Hey Doubie, question for you: if I need to create a SharePoint site that shares document libraries from multiple sites, would you recommend a Hub Site, or a Team Site with web parts embedding those document libraries?
Depends what you need to do but if it’s just to display then hub site
Hi Dougie, I am not sharepoint administrator , in this case how I can create hub site?
You will need to speak to someone that is a SharePoint administrator, perhaps your IT department?
Can you add sites to the hub if they predate the hub?
Hi Wes, yes you can! Aslong as the sites are modern sites and not classic SharePoint sites :)
Hi @Dougie_Wood - Quick question, how can I archive news stories on SharePoint as I rotate them off the front page? Please advise. Thanks!😊
Hey, they kind of already are archived once they fall off the front page and appear under the “see all”.
But if you didn’t want people to see them anymore then perhaps remove the permissions to the page. I’d only do that if there is a essential reason to hide the content. Easier to leave it or delete it.
@Dougie_Wood thanks! I am thinking that my Leaders wants it archived just so that we can have it after we present new content on the SharePoint site.
What about archiving old newsletters?
Lastly, can I connect a newly created Hub page to an existing SharePoint site that generated from a Teams site that I created? Thanks again!😊
@@iriswilliams4682 they disappear from the news web part but can always be accessed via site pages library.
Second question is yes you can associate any modern SharePoint site to a hub regardless of when it was created
@Dougie_Wood Do you have any videos posted of how to connect them together OR is it a simple thing that you can share in this message?
@Dougie_Wood in regards to the old newsletters, I believe that they are on that old Teams site that I mentioned. Can I upload or copy those from that Teams site onto the new SharePoint site?
can you nest hub sites?
Yes you can!
That is NOT a calendar. Users want to see a normal calendar displaying the entire month and not upcoming events
Hey Stefan, it is in fact a calendar. If you want to see it in a calendar view you can click on the cog, site contents, select the events list, you will see it as a calendar. You could embed this into a page if you wanted to but I find it’s a better experience to provide a button that links directly to it in a new tab 👍
